my grandmother died a few weeks ago. she left me a TON, literally BOXES and BOXES, of old clothes. she knew i liked retro things so she saved all of her clothes for me for when i got to be her size.
so i'm rummaging thru these boxes of clothes, finding things like bracelets with 'I Love Lucy' beads on them and old hankerchiefs and scarves. at the bottom of the box were these red italian leather mary-janes. TOOO CUTE!!!! and they fit perfectly.
so here i am, wearing my grandma's 40-some year old read leather strappy flats, thinking of her. and you know what, all of her things smell just like the grandma i always loved. smells like jergens sulfur soap and musky perfume.
my mom saw me wearing them today and i could tell that it really touched her to see them.
its good to remember people in little ways.

thats a perfect way to represent the infinite life of someone you love so much. much love, and may your grandma continue to shine into the sunset of her dreams, accomplishments, and grandaughter. :)

nice story :) My grandfather had died earlier this year, and my grandmother died when i was a teen due to illnesses linked to smoking cigarettes her whole life. I was basically raised by her and I have missed her a lot since she passed. When my grandfather passed he left me his wedding band from his marriage with my grandmother. I fully intend to use it as my own once my girlfriend and I get married, got it tucked away in my desk drawer for now ;)

^^well my grandma died of emphyzema (sp) and that has prompted my mom to FINALLY quit smoking. she said she would when she turned 50 but here she is now, at 54 still smoking marlboro lights

Yeah a thing like that can weigh heavily on a persons mind. I was already smoking cigarettes when my grandmother had died, but i was a stubborn teen. These days it weighs heavily on my mind that I have picked up smoking again, especially after seeing what my grandmother went through, being on oxygen, and only being able to leave the house for the period of time that her portable oxygen tank would last for. She was smoking up to the point that she had to be finally put onto oxygen, and emphysema was NOT the only illness she suffered after a life of being a smoker. I had quit, then picked it up again a couple years back, and will soon quit again because truthfully, I want to see my kids grow old
