This kind of thing really pisses me off. People go around listening to songs that are so sexually explicit. When you arent controlling the airwaves how can you EXPECT the youth not to listen?
Sometimes i really wish I could have lived through the 50s and 60s and 70s. Some of the music back then was sexually explicit, but at the same time radio stations DID NOT ALLOW THE SONGS TO BE PLAYED. The BBC wouldnt allow I am the Walrus by The beatles to be played because it had the words *pornographic priestess, you let your knickers down*. This is far far far from what we have today. Why won't any radio station ever go back to that system? Because if they did, they wouldnt have very many songs left to play.
I FIRMLY believe in in more stricter radio stations and at least some control over the people doing this.
I am fifteen years old. I have watched this happen since I was little. I never really liked rap(im not generalizing rap, but we can all agree that is where most of the sexual explicitness is from)so I was never really hit with this. I remember in second grade two kids kissed and had been *going out* for a few weeks. When you are that old you don't even know what going out really means. I never once needed a cell phone. Know why? Because everywhere i went, the person had a phone. My parants knew where I was, and at the ages 8-12 what kind of parent wouldn't keep up with that? If they needed me they called me where I was. Now, I am fifteen and I go out with friends and I have a cell phone that I use when I go out. Parents binge to much on their kids and this should be stopped.
This is just my opinion, some of you may find it wrong, some of you may agree. I am not trying to start a flame war, I am not trying to disrespect any type of music you may think I have offended in any way. If you agree or disagree, please put why you think so. post such as *you are wrong, I suddenly hate you for thinking this way, and btw your a complete fuck tard* are not only incoherent, but pointless. Lets try and be civil .

ok... im not trying to start a flame war with you with the falowing post... so if you are esaly affended... stop reading this post now....
ok.,.. first off... you complaining about music all talking about sex, and being alowed to be played on radio stations... well... just like you... every one has there own oppinions on what music they listen to... and if you realy payed attention to the lyrics of songs.... you would know that the real rap... like the good rapers, such as brotha lynch, DMX, Tu Pac, Biggie yea, sure they do rap about sex... but most of it is about there lifes, and how they made it to see 21 years old in a neabhor hood, that you are lucky to see 13...
but anyways.... im thinking the reason that you dont want radio stations to play songs about sex, is because your realy ugly... and your still a virgin... and youll be a 40 year old virgin...

second post of you being against rap, personally i think you just have a problem with rap and you're finding reasons (as solid or fragile as they may be) to have things against it, instead of just saying you hate it...
dont' get me wrong, i really don't like rap, with the exception of a few (very few) songs and eminem, i can't stand the shit... just why make these long posts instead of just saying "i hate rap"?

i would too, but this is his second "negative" post about rap, coincedence? maybe, but more logically atleast, it leads one to believe he just has a problem with it in general, personaly i find it annoying... it's changed a bit now, but it used to be "money bitches and guns, blah blah" over and over again same old shit, diffrent songs, even diffrent artists, but the SAME three things in every song... but like i said, it's not really limited to those things anymore, now there's everything in between talking about moms (love or hate) drugs, pimping, rims, cars, and so on. i still don't really like rap, but atleast it's not the same old shit anymore.. mostly atleast.

HAHA.
Um, little dude, have you not heard ANYTHING about the Federal Communications Commission (FCC)??
They're presence on the airwaves are a little too overwhelming, contrary to your ill-informed belief that no one is controlling radio.
Remember anything about Howard Stern battling the FCC before he switched to Sirus radio? That was HUGE in the news, too. His talk show had always been pretty controversial, and as a bunch of newer FCC rules came into play, he was fined for some pretty petty shit while other media talk-show hosts said the same thing and got away with it. He got so pissed off he finally made the smart move and went to Sirus, where truly ANYTHING is allowed.
I'll agree with you that pop-music as a whole generally sucks now-a-days, but it's not too offensive. Radio stations that play music with explicit lyrics edit them so they pass FCC standards. If you're offended by things you hear on KISS FM, you might be setting yourself up for disappointment, because the rest of the world is actually far more offensive beyond the media. Welcome to the 21st century =)
So really, lol, you might want to be complaining about have TOO MUCH of a biased censorship in the media, not to mention do your homework before tossing out a barn-burner of a topic. ~

For one, I don't think howard stern should be allowed near any media device.
And the FCC is a joke. Simple as that. They are completley biased. I agree with you. If they had any sense they would be taking care of this problem. And more flaming on ME. I left a disclaimer and everything. God cant we be civil?

i really dont think this post was about him not liking rap....it is not just rap though..it is in pop (my humps), r and b (have you ever listened to tweet), and so on and so forth..i think we tend to associate rap with it for the simple fact that it gets the most airplay..i think it is also just the way things are now..for example, nelly furtado sings about sex and being promiscuious, and she is a single mom..people find this accpetable..this is what our kids are looking up to and this is what they are learning...all these little kids wearing makeup and singing about sex at 10 and 12, not being kids cause they are trying so hard to be grown, and parents think they are "so cute".....again ladies and gentlemen..these are our future leaders..makes me sleep better at night

Howard Stern should be allowed to have a microphone and say whatever he wants, where ever he wants. However, America and its misleading slogan "Land of the Free" don't allow him to do so.
Haha, please, not everything said in a negative manner is "flaming." I meant no harm in my post, as it was a genuine response. That is just it, most parents today either CAN'T or WON'T do this. They can't because the government INHIBITS them while they DON'T do a damn thing to things that could be harming the minds of the youth. Don't blame the parents. is todays music cheap and abunch of degrading bullshit??? yes
but for you to say "it needs more control" is bullshit as well, thats like asking for dictitorship and asking to be enslaved
not to mention that it is also a freedom of speech issue also
am i a prolatarian and a freedom fighter (revolutionary)???? YES
and i dont agree with this fucking trash called "hip-hop" that is in the mainstream media but we DO NOT need anymore censorship than we have now
people just need to wake up and turn their radios off and start listening to people like dead prez, KRS-1 ,"the old" tupac shakur before 91', pink floyd, the beatles, and bands like the cars, scorpions and stuff like that
but all that mainstream crap is all pushed by the government so to say they need to control it more is unintelligent
FCC is the reason why the good underground rap cant get radio play!!!!

if that's how it came across then i'm sorry, i didn't intend for it to come out that way.... and yeah you're right about one thing, sexually explicit lyrics and rap just seem to go hand in hand... i read the whole thing, i just assumed he was targeting rap...
another point i'd like to make, it isn't all about the lyrics, it's the image of w/e singer/artist gives off plus their lyrics... i mean there weren't too many 13-15 year olds dressing in clothing that would make a stripper or hooker blush, before people like brittney spears....

How about this, make a section of serios radio that can only be purchased by an adult or adolesent such as a card that you slide through, or an input code. This would make it so the younger children couldn't listen to it and would give parents some control they need.
Another thing, my bus driver in my old town played sexually explicit music on the radio WITH 1ST GRADERS. It wasn't just her, nearly every bus I have road on in three different towns has done this. 1ST GRADERS. our kids are not even safe ON THE BUSES. from music such as this.

still wouldn't work, face it there's no way possible to keep 'negative lyrics' from kids, they can download the shit themselves onto their computer, they can get friends to do it, ipods and mp3 players opens doors as well.. and the whole card thing wouldn't work, they'd either just get an older friend to get it for them or convince their parents to do so... sure it might make less of the kids able to get their hands on it, but you can bet there would still be massive ammounts that could get their hands on it one way or another...
the only real solution to the problem is parenting, period. if the parents don't do their job, well.. no one else is going to do it for them.

My little friend you are just trying to take the mature, everythingisgoingdowntheshithole approach. Hah, and you're only 15. How cute.
Instead of more censorship of the radio, how about less tolerance for rich, stupid ass, materialistic rim jobs who condone the same things in their music. We can just rid of these idiots who sing, rap, and yell about the same shit and put REAL, GOOD music on the air and end a line of douche bags being spawn from our generation with overly priced jewlery in their mouth, and girl pants on.Oops, to late. Sorry guys I have to go watch My Sweet 16 and watch some spoiled bitch demean everything I find useful in my everyday life, not to get me started on the kids who have SHIT in Cambodia. Please, America is never going to be free. Don't even entertain that notion.
but SHOULDN'T it be?
The way I see it, you either have a culture based on sex and drugs or one that will imprison you for looking at pornography. Either it's all sacred or nothing is. I, for one, believe that anyone should have the ability to speak their mind, because why shouldn't they? Just because it offends you doesn't mean it shouldn't be allowed, and I personally believe that's becoming what's wrong with society today. If it offends you, turn it off. Don't listen to it, and don't pay attention to it. At 15, you should have a lot more to think about than societal standards. At 30, you should have a lot more to think about than societal standards.
I think you're placing way too much blame in the wrong place. The radio makes its money by ENTERTAINING society. They play what PEOPLE WANT TO HEAR, because that's what makes them the most money. Mainstream artists make songs that people want to hear, because that's what will make THEM the most money. What about the parents, anyways? Where are they when 12 year-old jessica is spending the night at her boyfriend's house?
3 minutes of sexual discussion can't lead a child astray unless there's some parental issues at the house.
I'm not in any way, shape, or form trying to attack you, so please don't take it that way. I know a lot of times you can't hear tone of voice in posts, but I'm your friend. Trust me.

That's one cause, and not a very good one. Media may step out of line sometimes, but the parents should at least know what it going in their kid's head. They should instill their child with morals and values so that they are unaffected by the things they see on the television. The problem is, the kids are being raised by the television, not their parents. Maybe if parents had better relationships with their children their children wouldn't have to listen to the television.

I strongly believe in freedom of speach, and I don't think it is just media that is turning kids that way. I mean, they also see how older people they know are acting, but just imitate it poorly. But who knows, I may just be talking out of my ass.

what do you mean by comments like "maybe if the government wouldn't prohibit parents from doing what they need to do." if what i'm about to say is incorrect ignore this entirely.... cuz i can only assume
but do you honestly think hitting a child is going to keep them from doing wrong? i wasn't spanked or hit growing up, my grandma didn't believe in it... i grew up to be a pretty respectable person, about the only thing i actually constantly do that's 'wrong' is smoke weed... i had friends who grew up getting hit/spanked/beat by their parents... lets just say none of them turned out to well..
like i said, if that's not what you're getting at then ignore this post, but that's the only thing i can think that the goverment prohibits the parent from doing to their kid.

but SHOULDN'T it be?
Trust me.
na man i think whyoftheleaf is thinking right, people should think about this kind of stuff and open their mind to the truth..... compared to the early 90's (which i remember clearly) everythings changed, because of the views the media puts out all the "family values" have changed for the worse and now you have these 15 yr old boys who think theyre "gangsta" and these little girls dressing like whores.....

I was whipped when i was little, not very often but occassionly. I think id have turned out better if i had been whipped more as a child.
But anyway. The government constantly gets between disputes that should be between the family. The government is constantly increasing taxes which takes time away from parent children activities to being put at working longer hours. It is nearly impossible for a single parent to make ends meat these days.
And im not just going after the media, or the government. But also the way people project themselves. there were times when you did not act a certain away around people. you respected their age or rank.
Im not saying this is the perfect way, but people had respect for others, and basic etiquette.

Way of the leaf, I think you have a very misguided view into what it's like actually being a parent these days. I don't think every parent is fighting to make ends meet. I know that it's not the government's fault. Come on man, if you're just going to blame the government for bad parenting, then why not blame the government for the things you don't like in media, too?
wayoftheleaf

Of course not all(or even most) parents are fighting for ends meet. but a good amount of them are. And actually if youve bothered to read the other posts ive made in this thread, I DO blame the government for whats in the media. My grandmother and grandfather have worked until 5 pm and 11 pm, respectfully, monday through friday for the past 23 and 17 years. That leaves exactly two hours where her children were not cared for once they reached an age of 12 or so. Before that, teenagers watched them. When a child is left to his or her own, the child will most likely do what he or she wants to do. There is an age where you realize that you should obey what your parents say. But there is also a mental maturity you must grow into before you can fully understand what you need to do. Most tweens DO NOT have either of these. When they are left alone they will listen to it, when they have a baby sitter they will listen to it.
At school, fifth graders see sixth graders doing it, so they do it to act more mature. Fourth graders see the fifth graders doing it, so they do it to act more mature, ect. This spirals down till all the grades are doing something. Like i said in a previous post, there was a time when you simply did not act a way around people younger or older. You respected other people according to their age. Im not saying to respecting someone solely for their age, but it is a good starting point. Parents didn't allow their children to act or dress a certain way, not only because they wanted to bring their children up right, but because they had respect for themselves, and their family. The government didn't try and jump into every other families business. Whether that be through social services(which in my honest oppinion is a complete joke, especially the way they take their tips), through increased taxes or a decrease in health benifits or anything like that.
Anyway I have to get ready for school.

Man... I guess I do have to rethink my opinions of this upcoming generation if the 15 year olds are pro-censorship.
I mean, what?
Whatever happened to rebelling against the puritan values of your parents. Wait, your parents aren't hippies are they?
Actually, I really don't feel the new content of radio and television is a problem, but it does require parents to be perhaps more hands on than when media was less controversial. But of course, its their kids we're talking about.
Dude, I'm about as cynical as they come, but even I think it's a little early to write off the next generation.

You are a twisted little kid. You shouldn't say dumb things unless you want to be treated as if you are dumb. So I will say it again, you are an ASS. You yourself are nothing more than a big, fat paradox. (not phat, but fat) Spewing mindless garbage on the Internet in hopes of accounting for your inadequacies. Your entire argument stems from the fact that your classmates are and have been getting laid, and your not. The government is not going to legislate a more accommodating world for you, suck it up and adapt to the world that we live in.
You got it all wrong, According to you the following are true:
1. The government should do more things to control how people parent their children.
2. The government is unfairly taxing us more and more, year after year.
3. If only parents would beat their children more frequently or more intensely...children would behave and not "do it."
4. The government is hard at work making laws which say habeas corpus, "basically doesn't really exist."
5. Except for the third amendment, the government may pick and choose whether or not you may exercise a right guaranteed by the bill of rights. (Are there no guns in Tennessee, because here in Texas I have no trouble bearing arms)
6. Children should be constantly monitored by their parents.
7. (I'm not sure what this means) "Parents binge to much on their kids and this should be stopped."
8. Cell phone usage plays some role in the demise of your generation.
9. The term genre can be used when you are NOT generalizing a type of music. (You definitely were not generalizing rap)
10. The FCC is "completely biased," this bias is impeding their goal of ultimate censorship.
11. Children who take the lord's name in vein are morally superior to kids that kiss in 2nd grade. (Careful not to be hasty judging others, especially before you are prepared for judgement)
12. Individual citizens, such as Howard Stern, should be barred completely from mass communications.
13. Cell Phones should be stored in a closet, and they should only be used at very specific times...times in which we might need to be contacted.
14. "America is never going to be free," we shouldn't bother thinking otherwise.
15. The government has not taken any steps to protect the minds of the youth. (I guess you are not aware of how many things the government regulates in an attempt to protect children: IE. cannabis prohibition, Internet gambling prohibition, age restrictions on alcohol and tobacco, requiring you to be 17 to view "R" rated films, etc.)
16. Parents should never be blamed, the government is undermining any attempt for parents to raise their own children.
17. WoftheL didn't get beat up enough as a child, its a shame too because he would have turned out much better if he had.
18. A new technology must be designed so that a mature citizen can simply slide a card to access "adult" content, this will inhibit children from listening to inappropriate content (The v-chip has already been effectively integrated into televisions, a medium which has more potential to influence children)
19. 15 year old WoftheL thinks he has chance with 21 year old Samwhore...maybe there is a chance he will get lucky and "do it" (And I'm sure you meet plenty of others on AIM, perhaps Congressman Foley)
20. The government has completely stripped parents of their ability to "do what they need to do"
21. "The government constantly gets between disputes that should be between the family"
The following are truths which come from REASON. (me)
The government cannot enforce more rules, and at the same time lower taxes it costs money to enforce rules. (The FCC's budget for 06' was $304,057,000) The government cannot be blamed for every problem which occurs in your meaningless life. If you think that it is a problem that "The government constantly gets between disputes that should be between the family," how could more regulations and censorship help this.
The reason there are child abuse laws is simple, there are no requirements in order to become a parent. Anyone and everyone can become a parent whether or not they fit or extremely unfit (http://www.cnn.com/2006/LAW/11/28/baby.microwave.ap/index.html). These laws were designed to protect the interest of children. Any fit parent should have nothing to worry about with regard to these laws. The reason some are fearful is because they have children who attempt to threaten them with these laws.
Nearly all psychologists are in agreement on the best way to raise children. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Operant_conditioning#Reinforcement.2C_punishment.2 C_and_extinction) That is through the use of positive reinforcement (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reinforcement) to reward a child for good behavior and limiting these rewards when the child's behavior is poor. Punishment (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Punishment), especially corporal punishment has been found to be extremely less effective.
As for habeas corpus, that right is not in jeopardy. Not for you or me at least. Contrary to left wing propaganda, the Military Commissions Act of 2006 is a bill which would suspend habeas corpus for any alien (non citizen) determined to be an "unlawful enemy combatant engaged in hostilities or having supported hostilities against the United States." Do you fit that description, because I definitely do not.
Though I haven't lost interest in lecturing you, surely you have gotten the point or gotten tired or reading.

Shit, Robert Plant said dirtier things than half of the rappers these days "squeeze my lemon till the juice runs down my leg"???? The rappers don't disguise it though, they throw it out there in your face, so deal with it. I like blowjobs, I like fornicatin', I'll even munch a good face full from time to time. The problem with America is people are so uptight and worried about the children all the time, save the children, what about the children. In the words of the great George Carlin - "Fuck the children". If everyone was more open about discussing sex, race, religion, politics, and could get past their own opinions and respectfully disagree with those of others than the world would be a better place. People coddle their kids way too much these days I am glad my parents let me learn things for myself.

it seems i heard this very same discussion in the 60s,70s,80s etc.; from my parents
i can't believe there are teenagers out there who believe the government should take a more active role in controlling morality. now don't get me wrong; i can't stand rap and i don't think that 12 year olds should be running around dressed up like $5 hookers, but how will censorship and other government restrictions stop the degradation of society?
we in the u.s. live in a society where sex is spoken of in hushed tones while genocide is glorified. we deify the idle rich and worship useless, lip-syncing pop stars; all the while ignoring the every-day heroes in our midsts.
too many of us seem to have an overinflated opinion of our own self-worth. we are not to be protected, we have to protect ourselves.

Ok now before I go any further I have to say that I HATE RADIO and sucks for the most part but to not allow certain songs to be played because they are about sex is totally wrong. The next thing is that you would only allow songs that are in favor of war because thats what Bush wants or something.
Personally, the fact that you are only 15 concerns me...A good majority of the content on this website is obviously inappropriate for you...I guess the government has failed to protect you from it.
I know it's a little late but...
...pwned

on a second note, i smoke weed. But I do not think it is appropriate to glorify the substance use to little kids, like 8 year olds. Hearing songs that say shit like "Yo roll anotha one up lick it puff it, pass" or blueberry yum yum for that matter. And Especially Joey crack AKA fat joe. Hes a crackhead, and they let him rap, this country is going down the shithole quick, and there is nothing we ourselves can do about it. Plus We heard songs about weed growin up, we smoke weed now dont we?(maybe not all of us heard songs)I didnt hear that many only few, but now wtf? listenin to music about smoking crack is a complete disgrace, this country in a couple of more generations is gunna be CSA, crackhead states of america. Or in any other countrys like england and brazil and shit. Glorifying something that bad is just a waste of oxygen and shouldnt be allowed to be said to kids that are like 12 years old.
