This one is for all the computer nerds who believe that everyone else in the world is a moron. I present you with a technological riddle. Below, you will find a description of the equipment involved, the task being performed, and the problems that are occuring. Your mission, should you choose to accept, is to tell me exactly what is causing the problems and what is the solution.
Feel free to use google until your fingers fall off and your eyes explode. The only rule is that you cannot ask for help from someone who is experienced in this area. Of course, there's no way I can enforce this rule, but even if you violate it, you will know my point has been made.
It shouldn't be too difficult for you. After all, I know the answer, and according to you I'm a moron.
Experienced welders: please do not post solutions!!
Good luck.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Your equipment:
Millermatic 350 GMAW welder
.045 dual shield wire
75% argon / 25% carbon dioxide cylinder
Your task:
T-joint on 1/2 inch mild steel in the vertical position
Your problems:
Porosity, undercut, and a sagging bead.
At the end of the bead, hot metal bubbles out just before it cools.
Also, wire has stopped coming out of the contact tip when you squeeze the trigger, but your spool is not empty.
What is causing these problems, and what should you do to fix them?

ok i dont know what your deal is against people who know a lot about computers. I read your other thread and you kept calling people who knew about computers nerds and blah blah blah. Sorry one of those nerds ripped you off, but god damn don't insult everyone else that knows about computers (like me)
Now i've never welded a god damn thing before, but i did a quick search on google and came up with a few possible solutions to your problems.
you're getting a sagging and undercut bead because you're letting the arc overheat an area of the bead. Also, your surface may not be clean so you should clean it off
if the bead is bubbling, you should either turn down the heat, go to a smaller tip, or change your rhythm so you're moving the rod faster.
apparently, there are a few different reasons why the gun wont feed the wire.
A.) Check and make sure you have the right size contact tip
B.) Check and make sure the gun liner the right size and is also clean
C.) The Gun is worn out, replace it
D.) Drive roll/feeder needs to be replaced
that took me 10 minutes, about the same time it'd take to look up what video cards are good. did i pass your test?

I don't have anything against people who know a lot about computers.
I just don't like people who are condescending when you ask them for help. Rather than telling me how smart you are and how stupid I am, how about trying to give me some helpful information?

I just don't like people who are condescending . . .
. . . Rather than telling me how smart you are and how stupid I am, how about trying to give me some helpful information?
HAHA.
Talk about the POT calling the kettle black.
I know I'm not the only one that sensed the massive amount of hypocrisy in that post. Please, for the love of God, read your own posts carefully. A little self-reflection would do you good.
A good number of your threads are nothing but a condescending attack at the inferior younger generations. You seem to give sound advice to others, but in this case, it's imperative that you take your own. ~

When you're older, you will understand. Until then, there's no point in trying to argue with you.
You seem to give sound advice to others
I think so, too.
your problem is you seem to have this entitled attitude, like you have accomplished something few people can do by simply getting old. guess what, it isnt too hard, in fact a lot of people do it. well i guess you did a better job than most people, after all you have managed to get a divorce and have your son tell you he doesnt want to live with you again. well shit let me take advice from you you old sage you. just drop this charade of being ultra mature and cool, because if it were really true you wouldnt be spending time on a message board. good luck:thumbsup:
and honestly i cant think of one instance on here where you gave any good advice at all. dont try treating everyone on here like they are in need of fatherly advice because your own kid doesnt want it from you. just something to think about:thumbsup:

Hahaha man you always crack me up city boy. haha a random ass puppy, man, yall lay off this guy, he's always good for a laugh,
i'm a computer "nerd" if you want to call me that, but i am not into much of the hardware aspect. I code, and that's about all, so i have no idea how to fix your problem. Just want to let you know that not all computer "nerds" know how to weld, and stuff like that, because there are different types. Hardware geeks and software geeks. I think this turned into a flaming/trolling thread, rofl. Just calm the fuck down people, who cares about what someone says on the internet?

I like how this thread still doesnt prove anything. Us nerds can't weld and you can't fix your computer. At least i have no need for welding at this particular moment. You still can't play your damn video games SO HAH.

You know this is actually getting sad.
You take out your frustration on who you are considering the average computer literate teenager as a "geek" or a "nerd" because you couldn't figure out how to install the outdated video card you just bought for $100 that is worth no more than about $30 online?
If you are so advanced in welding, I dont understand how it took you an hour to get your video card off as you stated in your other thread. It is no more complicated than unscrewing a single phillips head bolt and sliding it out.

I don't get the thread title.. "A challenge for the techno-geeks"
Why?
You can love techno, and be something else than a computer geek..

Welding & computers...uhm...I fucking hate Bill Gates because Microsoft employs all the cream of the crop ambitious computer engineers[/B]and generate tons of MS products & software, and yet continue to be plagued with ineptitude...I've started out with some " PC user" patient enough to wipe my nose when things on the PC infuriates me, tell me everything will get better and that began my journey into computery literacy.
I have had more system crashes, hardware failures and frustratingly poorly funtioning equipment, (All under the guise of "Yes mister, those things work great, I have 'em at home" and even multiple internet reviews which indicate that the product of interest was largely good.) Been there, done that...all the while I'm upgrading from one PC to another, I have had four so far (one w/ no problem HP notebook...very nice toy!) Some online advice is extremely helpful & some is not.........hey! CityBoy...take that card back and tell that punk its defective and you want a refund, then go to PCWorld.com and look up videocards...the info & articles are top rate and easy to understand. I've been helped more by them that anyother source.
I vaporize only smelly, sticky dank and it must obliterate all my engrams in two hits or I start splitting atoms...

The irony here, and what's really funny about all this, is that I've been outside enjoying my farm and my day. I came inside for a minute and figured I would check out the message boards real quick and see what was going on.
Here I find a bunch of people all angry and puffy over one little post I made, and trying to come up with things to say that they think might hurt my feelings.
I'm going back outside now. Why don't y'all turn off your computers for a while and go get some sunshine? You need to relax. You're wound way too tight.

let me point out some more irony, you've been a member for a month now and you already have more posts than most noobs that have been here a few months. yet, you're trying to say that we all spend way too much time on here.
ZING!
