Here I am listening to songs such as piano man by billy joel, and comfortably numb by pink floyd. And it is breaking my heart to see statistics such as this. (3% of todays generation have given up the good ole rock songs in favor of rap. Tears my heart in to.

Live long classic rock, soft rock, and psychodelic rock!

Rap is too mainstream for anything to last, it's not just your music that's going down, but alot of others as well...

I'm not saying I don't like rap, because I love it, but there's just too much of it going around.

Lol.

Rap won't die out anytime soon. We can just hope it loses popularity.

It really isn't even music....Just a lame beat and words that rhyme and have no meaning or are talking about sex.

yea rap is pretty worthless, why glorify living in the ghetto? not somethin to brag about if you ask me. 3% of the population isnt very much though

ya 3% isnt a big number at all.. but me personally i love rap.. there is a lot of rap that really sucks, like the shit thats only talking about the cars, and money and shit they have... and i dont think they are really glorifying living in the ghetto... they are just rappin about their life experiences and shit

ill NEVER give up the music that means most to me... EVER. no one will take away the magic of phish, pink floyd, steve miller, beatles, wings, neil young, csny. and hundreds of others.. i dont care how much someone rhymes or how much money they make.

ill never trade the basis of great music for anything else.

Rap is good when its someone who raps about real shit for full verses at one time. Now all we have on the radio is one or two lines, a pause, same thing repeated over and over, then a chorus. Its pretty lame.

11-26-2006, 06:35 AM
Lol.

Comfortably Numb IS just so meaningful. Tales of heroine are quite inspiring

Don't worry about the epic bands of the past. If they're really great, people of any generation won't help but recognize their talent, and their music will outlive us all. ~

id say there are only a few(somewhere in the single digits) decent rap songs out of hundreds of thosands of millions of rap songs. but there some good ones. hell theres at least a good song in just about any music genre, except polka. but definitely classic rock has the highest percentage of good songs, excluding journey becuase they ruin pretty much any genre they attempt. fuck these kids and their damn myspace and panic disco fallout boy bullshit.

why do you have to care and be so picky of what people like. i like classic rock like steve miller band to zepplein floyd ccr the who and heavy metal like pantera and lamb of god and gangsta rap like notorius big jedi mind tricks tupac and bone thugs, its nice to throw in some jazz in there and funk my opinion music is good.

yeah, i like rap when the lyrics actually mean something and have a message other than "Im a drunk, lazy, overly aggressive manwhore that can sort of rhyme and gets paid to do it"

there was these music awards a while back, where tom petty got artist of the century or something and he was saying something about how he didnt need to have diamonds, cars, or girls to become popular (or sumthing along those lines) and the cameras cut to 50 cent or someone with all kinds of chains, do-rag and everything.

Funniest shit ive ever seen on an awards show

Tom petty is badass.

While I still hold rock dear to my heart, I've learned to appreciate talented rap artists because of my major (music production). Rap used to have a message worth hearin' but sadly has turned into "cappin'" or tryin' to brag about the things you have, or nonsensical crap. But good rap does exist, check out the Roots, Wu-tang, Bone Thugs, Outkast, Kanye, Dre, Jay-Z for starters. But don't ignorantly hate. It takes more talent than you would credit to combine lyrics with a rhythm that flow with a pulse well. Sorry, music's my life, so I hate when any aspect of music is ridiculed.

i dont know why all these rappers make it big now. half of them have no talent at all. but there are alot of good underground artists. you could really say the same thing about heavy metal all the mainstream bands suck like slipknot for example everybody was obsessed with them for awhile now nobody even cares about them cause they suck. there will always be a place for good ole classic rock because so many of those songs and band were good. they actually had talent unlike all these posers today.

I think some rap songs are excellent and shouldn't be bashed like that!
But yeah... a lot of it has no musical value and is just "noise" with a fancy label on it

Other genres won't die out - I think rap is a phase just like grunge bands were a phase, or like any other pop music, it will evolve into other subgenres.

The beatles don't suck, you just don't like their music. The beatles were a pop culture hit and revolutionized the msuic industry. This is a fact. There is no way that music would resemble what it is today if not for the beatles.

i know man, i fuckin hate mainstrem rap soo much, if someone told me we would never have to hear it again if i ripped off my dick i would do it. but at the same time underground rap is pretty bad ass because the songs mean things they arent just raps about cars money and girls, and the underground raps are more then 4 lines then a corus
