Today is a sad day.
I am sad to inform those that care of Eddie's passing this morning through euthanasia.
He was a loved cat and apart of our family. He was 21.
His age finally caught up to him, and despite the efforts to revitalize his health last week, he succumbed to his over active thyroid and shutting down kidney's. He could no longer walk or support his own weight.
We will miss you Eddie, you were loved for so many years and the memories will stay with us forever.
Edward William (1985-2006)

It's always sad when you have to put a pet to sleep, but you'll always have the memories.

I'm so sorry about the wondeful and clearly charming Eddie, Bobby! What a nice tribute that was. And what a wonderful pet he must have been. Buddy and Jay, the resident kitties here, send their love and condolences, as do I. So sorry to hear of your loss this morning. Much love to you!

Thanks, he was my uncle's cat. My uncle loved and cared for him a great deal. He was abused as a kitten and mainly an outdoor cat. My uncle allowed him to enter his house and come and go as he pleased. Eventually Eddie made it his home and had been with my uncle ever since, that was about 20 years ago.. I've only known Eddie for a few years but still, he was a great character that would greet you everytime he saw you. He would talk to you and constantly made you smile.. especially when he would smile back.

Aww, that was a cute kitty, and wow, 21 years old too! He lived a long, long life, and you should be happy that your cat lived for that long. You did a good job taking care of your cat, and living that long proves it.
I had a cat that died just a over a year ago now, and she died at 18yrs old. Same thing as some people here, her kidneys shut down. She didn't suffer long though as she just stopped eating. The last day she was alive she just curled up in a ball and didn't move for about 14hrs, no eating, shitting, mewoing, nothing, we took her in and doc. said her kidney's failed. We could have kept her a live with meds. foir another month or two, but that would just lead to her suffering, so we put her sleep. I watched her drift off into kitty heaven and I was very, very sad.
Some people don't realize how muc happiness an animal can bring when someone has no one else to hang out with, or talk to. That cat listened to my sadness more than my own mother. Cats listen for hours, maybe because they don't understand you, but sometimes that is a good thing. :)
RIP Mr. Edward. He is now running around in kitty heaven with all the other cats. :)

21 is a great age and it goes without saying that he was well loved and looked after, the smile and shine in those feline eyes says it all.

I want to express my appreciation for all the kind words spoken and thought by everyone in this thread. As you can imagine, even though I wanted to thank you earlier, it was a very difficult matter to broach.
Eddiecat was terrific !
As Bob said he moved in with me about 20 years ago. He actually adopted ME  I can tell you that cats CAN feel and communicate. We just have to listen. You see, he move in a couple of days after I was diagnosed with M.S., and he stayed at my side through good times and bad. I think it was Eddie who was the real reason I was able to weather through some particularily bad exacerbations of the disease, and why I am still going today. Interestingly, two friends I had made at the MS Clinic and who were diagnosed at the same time as me both died within 18 months of the diagnosis.
Eddie taught me to speak Kat (the language they use to communicate with each other). He taught me strength by pulling through impossible odds after he was poisoned and went into septic shock. He taught me compassion for the elderly. But most of all, he taught me that none of us are truly alone. Everything we do imapcts on others; everything that others do impacts on us..... thus there is always someone who truly DOES care.
In later years he helped me through 4 strokes, although by that time he was of very advanced age himself. It was at that time that Bob came into my life, and ever since Bob has taken over and become my caregiver.
So I have lots to be grateful for. I now have Eddie's ashes here to remind me to remain strong, and my dear nephew Bob (who actually saved my life after my second stroke) to care for me and MAKE me soldier onward.
And now, all of your kind thoughts and comments bouy me up even more. A big "hug" to you all, and may you be as fortunate as me in your own times of need.
Cheers to you all ! Good health and kindness be with you .......
