Damn man, 5,000 watts? What kind of subs and just how many does he have? I would love to sit in that car, too.
I've got a 2-door S-10 truck with 4 12in MTX 8500's in my bed, facing the cab via a blow-through. I think it's somewhere around 2,500 watts.
It's plenty of bass for that tiny cab, and my hearing has taken a loss because of them lol. But it's so perfect for driving around and smoking to some serious thunder. ~

umm.... yea... not to piss you off or anything, but from my personal exprince... MTX Subs and Amps, both suck.... i just have the stock stero in my moms dodge, and in my chevy truck, i just have the stock stereo, and in the bug, i plan on hooking that shit up with some alipine subs, flip out player, and subs... and in my 84 labrone, i have the mtx subs and amps, with a elchepo walmart disk player...

I think you're wrong about the MTX's. They're very well-priced, and the quality is top notch, not to mention a LIFETIME WARRENTY. If it breaks, they replace it no matter what. Can't beat that. They are easily better than some overpriced Solarbarics or anything like it.
The amps are also very dependable, not to mention they look great with those lights on the ends. My system is easily one of the hardest hitting in the area, and for the space, the db's it reaches is amazing. I've yet to get it metered, but it's intense. It all has to do with the right combination of subs and amp, and powering them accordingly is what gives it that extra kick for certain lower notes.
I did my fair amount of research before getting them, as I was set on either the Solarbarics or R9's, but the guy who installed my stuff highly recommended the MTX Thunder series, so I couldn't say no. Dude knows what he's talkin about too; he's rated in the top-ten installers in the country. Just in his tiny little shop, he's done some SERIOUS installs to Hummers that still blow my mind. It's all good though, but MTX is highly underrated, and is actually making some noise now that the word is out about how much power some of their subs pack at such a fair price.

2200 Watts is the most bass where I've been inside the car, and it was my brother. My brother used to be into car stereos and he even won 2nd place in all of Alberta in a bass/car stereo contest. I watched him install the stuff, buy the stuff and play the stuff. He had 3 JL 12inch subs in his trunk, mids in the doors and center, a power pumper, 1 amp for his subs, another small one for his mids., and a bass cube. The bass cube was the COOLEST fucking thing in the world. It was this small cube with switch, and when he pulled the swicth to on, the bass, and only the bass would amplify about 10x as regular. We had to open the door windows otherwise they would risk shattering. When he entered the contest, his roof was rattling so hard that is started to crack.
It was insane, but towards the end of it all, he had a total of 2200 Watts in his car. It was awesome stuff, but it doesn't really impress me when a car drives by with a loud stereo. Seen it, done it, done. :)

yea... ive only had exprince with like 3 amps made by mtx blowing out... and 2 subs, that are about to go in the fire... and of cource, a car that is about 2 be driven over with my truck... but yea... you sound like you know everything about stereos.... so i will let you be... i was just posting my personal exprince... and yea... have you guys ever seen that MTX jack hammer... they had it on pimp my ride... they had like 5000 watts worth of amps hooked up to just one fucking sub... and then put a DB meter in the dash... and gave him a set of head phones... so fucking stupid... but i think that that jack hammer thing would sort of be cool, if i was into compeating in bass stereo compitions...

o yeah, mtx blows, if you can get it at a retail store like bestbuy, walmart, target, any of those kinda places, dont count on it being ne good

Around here, MTX isn't in any retail stores to my knowledge. Audiobahn, on the other hand, is always in stock at Best Buy.
I will agree with you that most stuff in retail is crap, too. Audiobahn's are so overpriced it's not even funny, same with JL. I almost bought into the JL W7's, but decided against it after the MTX's were a fraction of the price, and had better figures which was enough to convince me. Those two brands mentioned above are mostly for show, and when it comes down to it, there are plenty of better, lesser known brands that simply outperform.

The biggest sub in a car I've seen is 1600...
The speakers are back speakers are 400 each, and the front are 200..
2 front, 2 back, one sub.. 800+400+1600=2800.. And that is REALLY messing with my ears.. Sounds GREAT to..
So, 5000 is a little much..
Another mate has 2x1600 subs + 4x400
1600+1600+400+400=4000.. Still not 5000, but close.. And that is a SICK volume he can get.. lol

That's a good reminder, actually.
I should have stated that I'm running 2,500 RMS, and something like 5,000 peak. Of course that's excluding the high's and mid's, but anyways.
I agree with the one quality sub, too. Although I went into the installer wanting 3 quality 12's, and he advised that 4 across the bed of my truck would sound a lot better. And it does. =)

audiobahns in store are overpriced, and the audiobahns that are good dont even sell in stores you can get it online for less than a fraction of the price in stores anyways, mtx has no flagship sub, they made the one jackhammer or w.e but even that sucked, jl are quality subs, not quite competition but they are easily top 3 in sq, if you want good shit, look up resonant engineering and other brands that are somewhat underground
even rms doesnt count, cuz it said my rubs were 3000 rms, and peak 6000, i know for a fact they were no where near 3000 prob not even 1500, but w/e i always say 300 cuz thats what was on the box :p

Yeah R.E. has always caught my eye. Probably the brand I would have gone with if not MTX. They're newer Thunder Series is what I have, and what one could possibly consider a flagship. The more expensive subs in the series (the 8500 and 9500's) are just sick.
And yeah, I too usually go with what it says on the box. That way if someone tells me I'm lying, I just say that the manufactur is lying to ME. ~

I totally agree that stock stereo sucks and you should have good sound quality. But good sound quality is not about 1293192832watts and that shitty bass that makes your '85 piece of shit rattle like a fuckin' snake. Good sound quality is about good quality speakers in good quality enclosures. Not about the latest 500000000watt subwoofer.

Ive got 2 12" audiobahn subs hooked up to a 2400 watt amp in my infinity Qx4. Hits pretty damn hard, the biggest diffrence I have noticed is that, now my subs are 4 years old, they sound alot better then day 1. I think its because they are so broken in now.

Heres what I'm running.
Pioneer mp3 deck, one Mtx Thunder202 amp bridge into 2 Mtx 12's, one old school Rockford Fosgate Punch amp 40.2 running to 4-6 1/2's Pioneer speekers.
Sounds nice.

you know... ive never under stood what makes bose the best fucking stereo sytems in the world... ive never botherd to listen to one, just because if you have to advertise them at 3 in the morning on a info-mercial... then theres something fucked up with the prodect.... i mean.... you dont see dell, advertising at 3 am for an intire half hour... but... anyways...my home stereo bumps louder then the MTX's... and all i have is a crapy walmart RCA 5 disk changer with the 2 speakers that came in the box, with like 2 4 inch speakers in each box, with one little tiny ass tweeter in each box, and then, 2 10 inch Acustic Monitor self standing floor speakers, that are about as old as me... and they both have 1 mid range and one tweter in each cab... and i can still get the cops called because of my bass when the shity ass thing is only sitting on the volume at 12 maybe 13... anfd the cops are pounding on my doors... and the volume restrictions are if you can here it at a certian DB, 75 feet in any direction way from the house...
one of these days. im gonna find a DB reader, and measure out 75' in all directions, and fine tune my stereo, so that is like one db lower then the max, so that when the cops come over to fuck with me.,... i can be like fuck off... go measure out 75' and take this DB meter out there with you... and then go look at the darrington washington sound ordneces.... and laff in his face...

now as far as my car goes, ive got 1 12 inch kenwood w3009 ( http://www.crutchfield.com/S-FYuHwSfIHgB/cgi-bin/ProdView.asp?g=520&I=113W3009 ) and a sony 500.4 amp (bridged at 75%) with a stock head
