Legal age to ENTER a headshop?

I moved to a shitty area, nothing really around me and i actually found a headshop. When i walked inside he asked how old i was, i'm 17 and he asked if i left. Before entering there was a cop car parked outside of some weird fastfood next door. Im thinking that was it..or the dude was in a bad mood?

Do you really have to be 18 to just enter?
They had such a big collection too:(

Nah... when I was under 18 I used to go into headshops. You just can't buy tobacco. But you can enter--there's no reason why you shouldn't be able to enter. It's not like a strip club or something.

actually i think that is the rule.. not 100% but i know that in some places, they have a you must be 18 to enter sign.. and there are all kinds of bongs and shit...

Agreed, for all they know i can be turning 18 in a few days and wanted to think about what i was going to get or something. He asked both of us, maybe he wanted at least 1person to be 18 so if the cops outside wanted to walk in? I dont know. I'm gonna go back in a bit and check it out again. Kinda sucked

My local headshop has two floors. First floor is just t-shirts, posters, a display case of papers and bluntwraps, salvia, etc.

Upstairs is where they keep all of the pipes, bongs, an hookahs. You have to present ID to even go upstairs, but they never give you shit for the first floor.

Also, I've been into a different shop and was never asked for my age and i showed the guy what spoon i wanted, he handed me it, i handed it to my friend right in front of him, and my friend bought me it.(hes 18) I really hope this place isn't that strict :(

Some places near where I live get really strict from time to time. But I'm over 18 anyways so it really doesn't matter:D

at my "down in the valley" you have to be 18 to just look at the pieces and shit in the back of the store. i didnt know that and i walked back there and the dude that was in the front of the store stopped what he was doing and came back to tell me that i cant look and the shit in the back...jerk

well just like you have to be 18 (sometimes 21) to enter a liquor store. a headshop is legally (on the permit) known as a tobacco supply store and you have to be 18 to buy tobacco. therefore you have to be 18 to buy a tobacco accesory. (aka papers and "water pipes") the store owners are just covering there asses. cuz if a cop or someone from the city walks in and theres a minor in your store there going to assume that your intent was to sell something to them. there just covering there asses guys

In the downtown Headshop you gotta be 18 to enter the pipe/cigar area cause thats the law at least here it is.

But to enter the store where just the ciggs and other shit are you dont gotta be.

There's a headshop here in my town called "Waste Land", and you can buy anything in the store at the age of 16, and no proof needed, they just ask if your 16 or older. I've gotten about 3/4th of my peices from there. The other headshop here called "Smokers Club" will card you and make sure your 18, so me and my friends just use Waste Land.

im 17 and my local headshops never ID me... they did once but after i talked to the chicks there for a bit they changed their mind :)... if they are strict, im pretty sure you hafta be 18 to enter.

damn thts shit, in camden in london there are tonnes of headshops in one road like 20, its amazing and they all let you buy shit like pipes bongs and other rellated objects. thats how i used to get all my shopping done. sucks for you though :(

lol when i was like 13 i remember me and my friends went in a headshop into the back where it said 18+ only and we were checkin out the crazy ass bongs and bubs and shit. then the guy said i like how you have the guts to come in here but ima hafta make you leave. then we tried a bunch of other headshops :p

Though Addiction NYC has guys set up a table right off St. Marks near Ray's Pizza and they'll just say "You're 18 right?" and if you say "Yeah" then they'll be totally fine. And those are the guys who give decent prices.
they can get away with doing that because if its a kid sent in by the pigs there not allowed to lie about thier age, so it stops them from getting busted

I'm 16 and I go to the local smokeshop about once a week, I've bought there many times(they have such a wide selection of wraps). They never card me. I do have a pretty thick beard, though.


If you are worried about getting carded just talk to the guy at the desk for a bit, show him that your cool. The first time I bought there I talked with the guy for like 30 minutes about salvia and roors and just random shit for like 30 minutes before I eventually bought the bong I was looking for.

But after I bought it he gave me like 5 books of "magic" matches. They give me 10% off on every purchase when I buy there, but I also think it's like, "alright, you have the matches, you've been here before, you don't need id."

Headshops are the coolest stores in the world, I go in there all the time and look at their huge 3 and 4 foot bongs and shit like that all the time.

Shop near me says 16 and over however ive never seen anyone get ID'd.
Im 17 and still never been asked for ID.
Its just unlucky, fake ID maybe ?

Well, I know back in Alberta, you had to be 18 or older just to enter the shop. The main reason was younger kids, high school kids, were coming in there and asking people for hookups. Then it lead to the kids waiting outside the door, then that stopped, so they put up a sign saying you had to be 18 or older just to enter the shop.

But here in Vancouver now, high school kids go in and out all the time. They can look, but you need to be 18yrs or older to buy.

The high school kids here are much different though. They're not so, needy or are bothering you to find "stuff" for them. They're all pretty mature, probably because weed is everywhere here, and they're not being a bother to other people. It's pretty chill and I don't mind window shopping and bullshitting with them while I look around. They don't whisper to me, "hey man, you know where to get this and that" like back home.

you DO have to be 18 to legally enter the shop, but most shops won't id you at the door or anything, as long as you look like you're of age. of course, if you tried to buy anything they'd card you.

also, be careful what you say inside a headshop, the ones i've been to have signs saying that they will ask anyone to leave if they talk about anything other than tobacco, for obvious reasons.

and one last tip, remember, its a water pipe, not a bong
