Hi all!

Bought my seeds localy, as ornaments, yes as ornaments, Mazar is the type / breed, I can't remember the brand, LOVL.

I planted on September 11th, no associated reasons its just when I got round to it and they took about 8 to 10 days to sprout, 10 seeds, 10 plants. The guy in the shop said they would be short but bushy plants, similar to a small Christmas tree.

Built my grow house in my garden shed, its about 8ft long by 4ft wide and 7ft high. Rigged 2 6ft long flourecesent light tubes on timers, circulated and extracted the air using PC cooling fans, work well, and watered when needed. I started them in seeding peat and when they were strong enough I transplanted to bigger pots with peat moss. I have to provide a heat source which is 2 small anti-frost 200 watt floor heaters, thats what it said on the box.

This seems to have all gone well, the plants look ok, I think, they feel ok, they leaves feel like those of a summer tree, not too dry. I did have an attack of some sort of bug, a very small green catapillar type, which I eradicated by picking them off and removing some of the badly damaged leaves. I have been using Miracle Grow as a feed:-(

At this stage half the plants are approx 22 inches tall, while the other half are approx. 15 inches tall, and span about 16 inches.

When can I tell male from female, will the taller ones be male because of early streching?

Whats the next stage of care?

Are they of any use if I have to get rid of them at this stage?

Is it worth creating a segregation area to try and get some seeds using a male and a female plant?

Am I asking the wrong questions?

I hope the attached photos will provide further info.

Ok I'm going to roll another, and then I' going to watch Ireland get hammered by the Aussies in the rugger!

Regards

Any advice is greatly welcomed!

Well Mark,

You are coming along very nicely indeed. Your plants are a little small for their age which is due to the low amount of light you presently have and the small pots.

Now for your questions.
1) When can you tell a male from a female? About two weeks after change the lights to 12on 12 off.
2) Your next stage? Your best bet at this stage would be to get a 400/1000hps and transplant into larger pots.
3) Are they of any use if you have to get rid of them? Only if you can take them to a remote outdoor location.
4) A segregation area? No, I would remove all them males but one. He will give you all the seeds you will ever need. Then you can pick a mother to clone for the rest of your life.
5) Are you asking the wrong questions? No, remember if you want big bud you need big roots. The more light and fresh air the bigger the buds.

Yes....definately more light either the HPS or add more flouro's (flowering flouro's need to be around 2700K - 3000K)....so far though it looks great!

Thanks Loco,

The bigger pots are currently being aquired, can you explain 'hps'? When should I change from 18/6 to 12/12 and over what period should it be phased. The seed collection I will do on my next grow, I do like the idea of cloning, are there any constructive threads that you know of where I can get further info.

Thanks and good luck to all.

HPS is a High Power Sodium lamp.
They contain a lot of the red spectrum, which simulates autumn sun. They also give off a high amount of Lumens, e.g. lots of light. They also give off a lot of heat, so you'll need to think of temps and ventilation. You've got 8 plants? I think the very mimimum you could get away with is a 600w HPS, if you want to be successful. Lots of people will probably say thats too little. They can be combined with warm white fluorescents, but again, a lot of people will say that those lights can't really compete with an HPS.

You should change when you want them to begin to flower. Preferably, the plants should be showing signs of sexual maturity first, like pre-flowers, or "alternate nodes", which means the new branches are no longer growing opposite each other.

Some people suggest it shold be phased in over a couple of days to simulate a gradual autumnal approach, but most people will tell you that that is unneccessary.

ive been using a 400w HPS sucsesfully, get about an once of weed per plant with it, but higher power is most definatly better as long as you can keep the heat down....a friend has a 600watt hps and the buds are a bit more dense and better, not massivley though. then again it may be the strain also.

Of course, I'm stupid, what was I thinking. Maybe time to stop smoking weed...Oh, who am I kidding :pimp:

On the other hand, I just realized you haven't sexed them yet, so probably once you find the females, you'll only have about half left, which a 600HPS will do for.
