Hmmm... actualy one of those fast ass electric RC cars sound fun, or maybe an electric auto airsoft gun? Well i'd sure as hell enjoy one of those at his age, but that may be a bit out of hand, hahah.

How about a Robosapien 2? (Just got an ad from RadioShack yesterday, heh.) About $200, but it looks pretty cool to me...and I'm 42! Or...how about an 8GB flash-based Sansa MP3 player? About $250 for that, although they have smaller capacities too. Add a subscription to Yahoo Music to that for like $60/year or whatever and that's a nice present for anyone.

Does he like photography? If so, how about a digital camera? I recommend Canons, and they have some affordable point-and-clicks that are quite nice. $250-$400 for that, but that's a gift that has lots of reusability, not something you use once then forget about.

Interested in astronomy? Some cool telescopes out there! Prices vary wildly, but you tend to get what you pay for. Not as much reusability as some of the other ideas, but if your son loves astronomy then that'd have some 'wow' to it.

A nice bicycle is always a great present for a boy of that age, if he doesn't have a nice one. TONS of reusability with bikes. Boys don't get tired of bikes (until they start asking for cars anyway).

New pair of good headphones, a nice cellphone, a survivalist-type watch with a thermometer and built-in compass, a Wii or PS3 or X-Box 360, wireless keyboard and mouse -- a few more ideas. Kids sure got a lot better choices for presents than they used to!

I don't have any gift ideas but I think its really nice that you're putting this much thought into what you're getting for your son. Growing up it was my mom who did all the shopping so on christmas what i was getting was as much of a surprise to my dad as it was for me

Wow factor aye? Well, the best bet is a tray of clones. It's never to young to grow, just too young to smoke the produce.

actually one of those electric (or gas) airsoft guns soudns cool. i would have given almsot anything for one, i was OBSESSED at that age, theyre pretty cool. and all i could get were those crappy spring guns. but airsoft is a fun sport, its like all i did till i found weed. actually, id definatly play it if other people did.
just make sure you get the right bb's and lube :P

i agree with others on the guitar, it may sit there a few months it may not but if he likes alternative/rock music a guitar would be a great gift.

ive een playing guitar 14years and cant wait till my 8yr old is that age to give him a guitar and teach him it.

R/C cars?

Dude, if I got an R/C car when I was 13 I would have been pissed off.

Best choice would be a Nintendo Wii. It would be hard to find though. Next best is an Xbox 360 with Gears of War(this games cool as shit).

If you can't spend that much money then get him a guitar. It's never to early or late to start playing.

Or a go cart.

Something that will last a while and still be kickass when he grows up a bit.

Something like a RC heli is no good, cos thats something that only pro's should muck around with, they're are hard to handle, [or to learn to handle] and one false move/delayed reaction and its gone, into a pile of metal, and thus rendering it useless. = Waste of money.
