I'm thinking about buying my son a paintball gun for his birthday. However, I do not play paintball and I do not know which gun would be a good one to get. So I'm asking you, which paintball guns do you like?

How much are you willing to spend. If this is his first gun get him a Tippmann. They are relativly cheap and the most durable shit on this planet. A-5(~$300) 98Custom(~$150).

Yeah, if it's his first gun get him a Tippmann '98 Custom as mentioned above. Has everything a first gun needs.

I'm thinking about buying my son a paintball gun for his birthday. However, I do not play paintball and I do not know which gun would be a good one to get. So I'm asking you, which paintball guns do you like?

Whats he gonna be playing? Speedball or woodsball?

Tippmanns...yeah their durable, but anyone fairly into paintball hates 'em.

Theres basically 2 categories of guns. Cheaper ones (100-200) and high-end guns (300-2,000).

I haven't looked at anything paintball related in well over a year, but I used to be real into it. Impulses are nice. About $500 for impys.

Cockers aren't bad either, they're 300 or so, probably some cheaper ones. A lot of up-keep though, he'd have to learn to time it an all.

For a decent first gun, I'd say, fuck tippmann, get a Spyder. Those are about the same price, but better. They're not so bad for speedball and work just as well for woodsball.

Seriously, tippmanns suck. I hated my 98c. I was so glad when I got my Rat Jr. Impy.

EDIT: The A-5 blows guys, that whole cyclone feed is a gimmick, it feeds like what, 12bps? thats BS, revvies feed like...the same, without making the gun extra heavy and all. Plus, tippmanns have shit accuracy.

Let me elaborate:

He has never played paintball before (that I am aware of). I don't even know if he will like paintball. He spends most of his time sitting on his ass playing video games.

So I'm thinking if I get him a paintball gun, he might get into it and start being more active. He also might not like it, in which case I wasted all that money and neither of us got what we wanted.

His birthday is just 12 days before christmas. This is always the most expensive time of the year for me.

Well Ive only played paintball once, but used to be pretty into airsoft (dont know if you call it the same on the other side of the pond, but its BB guns). Had a nice metal Beretta with silencer and a couple of mags for £140.

Anyway, if you want to get him out the house a little, how about taking him out on a hunting/camping weekend? Gun laws are more relaxed in the US than the UK. Plus, it allows you to spend some father-son time with him

yea... a father son hunting trip.... i never got that with my dad... cause my dad was always to busy... just go with the tippman, if he dosent want or you dont want to go hunting... take him hunting... come back to the fire, toss him a beer a joint, a smoke, and a lighter... ok, you better wait a few years for that...

Since you live in the country i would suggest the Tippman 85 or Tippman A-5*. They are both quality woodball(paintball in the woods) guns. Those are pretty much standart reliable guns. Since he is just getting into paintball dont buy anything too expensive. Like for example do not buy him an angel or an autococker. Those are expensive and unnecessary lol. Also you should play with him. Paintball is an excellent sport.

dude, paintball get seriously expensive. im going to reccomend you go with airsoft.
you can find plenty of local players just like myself, and they can show him all sort of cool ways to mod his gun, gear, etc.
check out this website, i know its a .co.uk but there is mostly americans there. i am in california, i know its a long shot but if you live by the bay area, he can come play a game with us =)
www.arniesairsoft.co.uk
here is a few links to all sorts of cool guns ranging from 50$ or so to 300$
personally, for his first gun im going to reccomend a UTG AEG (automatic electric gun)

the gun above is virtually the best first gun any airsoft player could buy. it comes with EVERY thing you need, i can help you if you ever have any problems, they are generally simple to work on. they look and feel just like the real gun, they are Fully automatic (rapid fire) and semi automatic, you can pull the bolt back and everything. as for BBs, i would reccommend the WHITE colored .20g bbs, should be available in sports stores, etc.
email me if you need anything or consider this route, [email protected]
i personally have shot them all and own an MP5, and they are all nice first guns, because if they break, they wont cost you so mutch money as if you were to buy like a tokyo marui or classic army, etc. but if you are willing to spend the cash there is other guns that are of higher quality, but they are incredibly expensive, and these guns basically do the same thing as those expensive ones. shop around these sites

www.hotspotairsoft.com (5.99 flat rate shipping cost)
http://www.airsoft128.com/xcart/catalog/index.html

the list goes on and on

Ok, first gun, sits on ass, lazy, bored, video games. I have played LOTS of paintball and know the market pretty fuckin' well for any gun, any part anything. I had own real business, I fixed guns for a long time and still do.

I would suggest a Tippmann 98Custom or a mechanical Spyder which you can get BOTH at Wal-Mart. Do NOT buy Brass Eagle, godamn the most worthless marker ever. Do NOT buy Viewloader Markers, same as brass Eagle. For starters, get him one of the two I mentioned, but only mechanical as electric markers "chop" paint(which means the balls break in the chamber and up through the loader). So get a mechanical, with a normal gravity hopper($3), and a 14-20 oz CO2 tank, runs about 100$ for all of it + a mask which can be included or bought separately for about 20$.

His birthday is just 12 days before christmas. This is always the most expensive time of the year for me.

In that case, I'mma suggest you don't get him one. Paintball is expensive. If he goes to a field to play, its gonna cost $20 for 500 balls of paint most likely, then he'll have to buy air and a $5 or so fee to play. Thats like 30 bucks every time he wants to go.

If he just plays in the backyard and whatnot, hes gonna want some people to play with. He might not know anyone that paintballs, which would make it hard. And he still has to pay for paint, which might be cheaper at $20 or so for 1000 balls. Then air too...

Please, DON'T get him a tippmann, disregard what others say about them, I've used tippmanns, spyders, and high-end guns. I've known people with tippmanns, spyders, and high-end guns.

The ONLY thing tippmann has going for them is durability. I know this from experience.

If you do decide to get him one, make it a spyder.

Maybe one of these, http://www.xtremez.com/paintball/product_information.asp?number=GNKTLRKIT&variation=GB&aitem=&mitem=&back=yes&dept=294

Well, try finding out his interests from the games he plays. Does he play shooting games, driving games etc? If he plays point and click games, at least youll be having a cheap crimbo. Just buy him a foam finger.

Well if he wants to play videogames than thats what he'll want. Getting him something he has no interest in what-so-ever and probably no friends to play with is stupid. I got a gun to play with my friends and we did for about 2 years than it jusdt got old. I still wanna play but no one has the time or motivation to play anymore. Pluse it is very expensive. I could easily blow $100+ per weekend ad thats not counting all the mods I added barrel, compressed air, auto hopper etc. It is fun but you really need fun people to play with or its just shitty. So use your own descretion on buying this for him. I would talk to him and ask him what he really wants.

haha nice...

seriously though, i would have thought any sort of gun would be pretty cool for a 13/14 year old. When i was that age me and my brother used to have air pistols, and we had hours of fun shooting each other in the backyard.

Yeah, the tippmann 98 custom is the way to go. I used to work at a paintball field, and we had these as rentals. I think they actually work better once you run over them with a truck and drop them in the mud. In other words, he won't be able to break it without trying hard. Tough guns. Not good for competing by any means, but an excellent starter gun.

Don't forget a mask too. That is the single most important piece of equipment a paintball player could own. What good is paintball without any eyes? My reccomendation would be the JT Flex 7. Good and fairly cheap, lightweight and breathes easy. Go with the thermal lens if you don't want it to fog up.

If you're getting him a paintball gun, here is my reccomendation of what to get for a first timer setup:

1 tippmann 98 custom
1 hopper (gun may come with it, they usually sell tippmann 98 custom beginner packages)
1 20oz co2 tank
1 JT flex 7 mask

That should be more than enough to get your son set up and ready to play for awhile. If he gets serious into this sport, it could cost a lot of money, but hey, isn't that what dads are for :rasta:

I need to get back into paintball, its been years. My last gun I owned was a 2k2 Impulse with the cricket board with an eye, a halo b, and a 68c/3k tank, with lots of little upgrades and shit to the gun. I loved it. I could hammer away at a nice 14-16 bps all day long. Played a few 3 man tournaments, never got 1st though. Man I miss that shit, got too broke to play lol.

Oh yeah, maybe some gloves too, getting shot in the fingers, especially in the winter, hurts like a bitch. Tell him to wear loose clothing too, you'll get more bounces (non-breaking hits) than if you're wearing something that fits well.

tippman are better than spyder unless you are spending over 400 and i doubt you are. tippman 98 customs are the standard in paintball guns as they are cheap reliable and very good guns for the price. i cant stress reliable enough there. they really are reliable if nothing else and trust me paintball guns especially most cheap ones fuck up all the time. also a good thing about them is they are probably the most customizable paintball guns there are. like the s10 of paintball guns except unlike s10's they arent bad to begin with. however i will say buying him a gift isnt going to get him to consider living with you, my dad has tried the same thing with my sister countless times and it just never works

good luck

oh one other thing too, i have to agree with most of the people here i hope your son has a lot of money cause he should be prepared to drop an average (thats average, could easily be a lot more or a little less) of fifty dollars every time he plays.
