I've been searching the web and found tons of state-by-state information on the penalties for growing/distributing/posessing marijuana.

... but what about hemp? What kind of penalties would you be faced with for growing hemp in your back yard, or distributing viable hemp seeds?

If anyone could help me out with some info, I would appreciate it.

Okay... I think I found an answer... sort of:

Subd. 9. Marijuana. "Marijuana" means all parts of
the plant of any species of the genus Cannabis, including all
agronomical varieties, whether growing or not; the seeds
thereof; the resin extracted from any part of such plant; and
every compound, manufacture, salt, derivative, mixture, or
preparation of such plant, its seeds or resin, but shall not
include the mature stalks of such plant, fiber from such stalks,
oil or cake made from the seeds of such plant, any other
compound, manufacture, salt, derivative, mixture, or preparation
of such mature stalks, except the resin extracted therefrom,
fiber, oil, or cake, or the sterilized seed of such plant which
is incapable of germination.

So pretty much they lump hemp penalties in with weed, from the sounds of it. Only after hemp plants are harvested and stripped of leaves and flowers do they become legal, apparently.

I guess that means possessing 'less than 42.5 grams' of hemp/marijuana seeds is a misdemeanor. :P That's a helluvalot of seeds....
