Here is the deal, I can get some basic growing needs, plantpots and soil and such, but i really can't afford much else. I was wondering if, i water my plants the correct amount of time, i have a light in my closet so ill be turning it off/on depending on how long it should be on. and use appropriate soil and ph levels, is it more likely to die or live?

a normal 80 watt bulb in the ceiling

Not to let you down but thats not enough. Your best bet for low budget 1-2 plants would be to buy a couple 4' floro fixtures. At home depot they were 7.95 for a two bulb fixture and packages of bulbs are about 3-4 bucks. so an extra $20-$25 would really help
