My bowl is supposedly made of "unbreakable glass". The owner of the shop I bought it from threw it across the room before I bought it to prove it to me. It doesn't crack or anything if you drop it on a hard floor but I would like to know how far the strength of the glass goes. Has anyone ever broken an "unbreakable" glass piece? I'd like to know the threshold for this type of glass.

Just be thankful that it doesn't break when you accidently knock it or drop it. If you want to break it hit it with a hammer.

Is it actual glass or acrylic?

It is true the place I bought mine from did the same but he threw it into a cement wall. Its just really thick glass. Don't drop it often it will break if you drop it a lot. Once doesn't hurt it but more will weaken the glass.

So called unbreakable glass is called "Pyrex" and it can withstand considerably more shock than regular glass, but like everything else, apply enough force and it will meet its failure threshold.

so how strong would an inside out pyrex pipe be? lol... i think it would just be ridiculously strong...

i don't know if it is for sure pyrex or not, but what he said about pyrex is true... can also withstand alot more heat then regular glass can as well...

I have an "unbreakable" glass spoon that I bought from a custom glass blower. They are breakable, but you need a lot of effort to break one. He was telling me a story of one of his customers pieces that he made, and his customer got pulled over by the police. They found the pipe, and he was told the cop chucked the pipe to the ground several times and it wouldn't smash. He tired breaking it in half across the cemet and his car, no breaking. It took a hard kick from the officers boots to break the pipe, and it didn't shatter, it just snapped in half. VERY tough glass.
The first glass pipe i ever bought, like 5 yrs ago, the guy at the counter did the same thing as you. He took it, and beat it against the counter really hard. Didn't even crack, so I told him give me a different one and I'll buy it. :)

Can't say I've ever owned or heard of one. But sounds mighty nifty if you ever have to ditch your peice (by chucking it somewhere).

i have a double walled hand blown spoon that can withstand a beating...mostly it has to deal with sitting in my lap after smoking, me forgetting it's there, standing up to go get food, hearing hte bowl hit.....too many times have i watched friends shatter priceless pieces cuase they forgot it was in their lap....

yeah I had a thick ass glass on glass pyrex pipe that I thought would never break. My roommate jacked it and brought it to a party, it came back in pieces. He said it broke in his pocket, but he must have done some pretty crazy shit to break it. Your best bet would be to never find out if it is unbreakable...don't drop it!

They have some "unbreakable" glass pipes at the smoke shop near where I live. And they have a shitload of holes in one wall where they throw the pipes through it. They are really kick ass thick spoons, and tough enough to withstand a throw that will send it through sheet rock. I'd say thats pretty damn unbreakable.

yup, i've seen the headshop lady toss them around...its called pyrex as previously mentioned, and it does break...seen it happen...but still stronger than glass, and the ones i've seen have been cheap and have a lot of color-changing patterns
