Okay guys. I know that I am going to catch heat for this, but, yeah. I have seen a dramatic increase with the foul language used on posts. We all say "bad words" but I dont want to see it on every other post anymore. F this and f that, etc. It is bordering on vulgar. I know a lot of you are going to go through the whole "freedom of speech" thing, but that isnt where I am going here. It is more about respect. "Bad words" are okay, in moderation, just like fried foods. Too much and it is overkill. I know it takes a lot to offend me on here, and most of you know I am very laid back, so I am thinking, if it is bothering me, surely there are some other ppl out there it must be doing the same too. Can we try to tone it down some, just a little? I am not asking for no "bad words", just not so many. Please? Thanks guys.

just what the fuck are you talking about?
maybe Oprah will have a show just for you.
"bad words" dont bother me as much as censorship does.
Fried foods are bad, even if taken in moderation.
I urge all who feel the urge to use the word, fuck, to use it.
It's better than developing an eating disorder.
bad words? lol..., war, thats a bad word.
I'd suggest a "christian" website, but have you seen the language and hate they spread? lol:D

Don't see the big deal with the chat %%%% filter either. It in no way stops anyone from swearing.. simply cleans it up for the people you're typing to.
I personally don't give two flying... well.. hoots.. about the usage of profanity. However... if people can use a little tact when it's called for, the overall posting quality of this forum would raise a few levels..

First and foremost, I am not a Christian. I am a Jew, thank you very much. Second, I post very little as most of my time is spent reading all of your posts here. I was just expressing an opinion, and there is no need to be nasty to me for that. I am entitled to my opinion, and was respectful in how I came with that, so I expect the same in return. You are also entitled to your opinion, but you can, in turn, also be respectful. And lastly. I think Oprah sucks. P4b, ty for your support, as always.

There is no such thing a a bad word except for the word "bad".
"Profanity" is people that are so up tight they can't handle hearing real words that describe the situation. I am doing my best to put my point across without using these words you find so appauling but this is rediculous.

 I'm with Princess on this issue...respect does go alonf way and costs ya nothing to show to others.
This thread got me thinking, about WHY i swear so much, and why i swore so much as a child.
I've always been a fairly angry person. I used to get into fights, i used to fight my parents, the lot, and i got in a lot of trouble while i was bothering with school, and i got into some bother with the police.
I knew i had to sort myself out, cos i didnt want to go to prison, i didnt want to be known as a fucking nutter.
So, i started swearing, to let all the anger out, instead of being violent, it got my point across, showed people i was fairly pissed off, and that did it without me lamping anyone.
The way i see it, even though it cant really apply to anything on the internet, is if you pissed someone off for what ever reason, would you rather they scaremed fuck at you for a few minutes, or smack you into a coma?
That's how i justify it, even though like i said, it cant really apply to the internet.
I've been swearing since i was like 7, i remember the first time i hear the F word.
I've grown up with it, and most of the time i just use it as a normal word, like any other, cos you know what, it IS just a word.
Anyway, i thought i'd just let you know why i swear quite so much.
AlwaysBlazed
11-14-2006, 08:31 PM
I'm not going to say I don't swear, but I honestly do try not to. I think people who sware are just ignorant and they can't think of anything else to say. Thanks princess for bringing this up.

The thing I've learned over the years is, swearing is best used rarely, because then it has more oomph. When you see somebody swear constantly, you just tune it out as white noise. Swearing is like a good spice. A little goes a long way, and more than a little tends to drown out everything else.
Sometimes it just strikes me as lazy too. 'Dude, you're fucking stupid", that's just boring as insults go. I mean, c'mon, if you're going to go through the trouble of insulting someone, invest a little time in it and do it right. Like, "Dude, a boil on a diseased prostitute's oozing pus-rimmed anus has more brain cells than you do" or something like that. Hell, that didn't even contain ANY profanity.
It doesn't bother me, profanity. I can curse in three languages, and I was in that great bastion of profanity, the U.S. Army. But I save it, use it judiciously, so that when I do use it it's not just white noise.

This dude i used to hang out with, who was like my mentor, once said to me, "Everytime I hear you curse, I feel disappointed. You're better than that". He never spoke about how he felt about trivial things so i knew he meant it. i dont' swear around him anymore and i have cut back on the profanities in general.

exactly...i am not in any way saying people shouldnt or cant cuss..all i was saying was that f this and f that every other word is a bit much..i was not saying people should not or could not swear, i was just saying cant some ppl say some things without every other word being a swear? and by the way....censoring would be saying someone cant say something..all i was saying was cant we just say the words a little less? i think a lot of you took this very wrong, and i think you were quite unfair, to be frank with you..as i said earlier, i was respectful and if you dont agree, there is no reason why you cant post it in a respectful manner..why is that so hard for some of you? why do some of you have to be so crappy to people? and as for the "how did i find marijuana" crack earlier, i found it when i had cancer and was receiving chemo..i am not uptight guys, and again, i was not saying you cant cuss or that you had to agree with me..i was just saying i was finding it rather ridiculous for there to be so many swear words everywhere..i am entitled to my opinion as well...
princess
the only words that are bad are the ones you see as bad. i thhink it is annoying when people throw them around just for the sake of doing it, but i also use them many times myself when it may or may not be warranted. in fact i dont think there is ever a case where it isnt unless i am at a funeral or something. and even then. my point is it is annoying when people just saay it repeatedly like repeating the same profanity 3 times in a sentece many many times gets old. just dont think it makes anyone cool. the only thing that offends me about that is the ignorance, not the words by themself. but people thinking saying words like that will give them some badass rep. i dont know. really i think people that get too offended by words are pussies. but i can see where they are coming from sometimes.

I like cussing, but I do it with in reason. If there is a ten year old kid standing next to me, I watch my mouth. If I am writing a paper for a class or posting an intelligent argument here or on another board, I refrain from cussing. But when I'm around here bullsh*ting on the boards, I throw out f-bombs sometimes. It is how I talk in normal situations when I'm around normal people talking about stupid things. I make no exceptions here. I just never understood the big deal... They are all just words. Unless they are directed towards someone in a malicious way, I don't see what the big deal is. It all depends on context.
I just read your last post and agree with you for the most part.

i dont want to sound like i'm preachin', but when your my age thats all you can really do, so , here i go.....
I was thinking about all the school shootings, kids killing kids, kids killing parents, grand parents, siblings, etc etc, and i got to tell you......not one of them killed because of the word, fuck. Anti-depressants? yep Being bullied? yep. being abused at home? yep. They live under a government that sees violence as a way to solve things. Tv's full of violence. It's a "me against you" mentallity, and only sisses, losers, punks, and the , weak, lose, right?
Sooo..
the next time some latchkey kids go wrong and start shooting up the place, it aint going to because of some old fart in a pro-cannabis chatroom using the word, fuck. It aint gonna be because of Marilyn Manson or Eminem(sp). It aint gonna be because of the kid in baggy jeans.

This was a good thread, Princess, and I'm glad you raised the issue. I, too, have been troubled by the overuse of the F word and the lack of respect at times, but I thought I was the only one. This helps me know it matters to others, too. Sure, cursing never killed anyone, Daima, but words can be hurtful at times. And respect does count. Above all, I should hope we're trying to help raise the estimation in which weed smokers or advocates are held in the world. Seems like erring on the side of courtesy and respect more often than not couldn't help but assist in that process. Thanks, Princess, Kiwi, and other concurring mods.
