View Full Version : Need advice for a low yielding rescued plant

Heya all

I rescued this plant from a friend who was growing it on his window ledge.
He asked me to try and see what I could do to make it produce some more bud.

She's already couple weeks into flowering.
Most of the buds are pretty small popcorn buds at the moment, but my goal here is to make them fatter. Isn't that all of our goals? :D

This plant has basically had nothing at all as far as nutes go until now, and has been grown indoors on a window ledge with pretty low amounts of sunlight getting to it recently.

I currently have eight 25 watt CFL's blasting it (1600 lumens each @ 2700k)

I gave her a pretty low dosage of Schultz 10-15-10 a few hours ago, along with some water ph'd to 6.5. Soil ph is currently a low 6.

This was being grown just plain MG soil, not the over fertilized crap, but the plain MG soil.

I put it into a small cab which I quickly made for it last night out of a computer cart, with a hacked up cheap-o emergency blanket for some reflective material.
The cab isnt all that great honestly since I rushed to build it asap, but it'll work for now.

I began some minor lst on it partly so I could fit it inside the small cab, and partly so I could bend her over to get more light spread around her to increase the possible yield.

I think this one can be turned around from its present state, and be made into a semi-decent plant by harvest time.

Granted, we both already know it will not yield much.
It looks like it has about 6 bowls worth (estimated dry weight) already.

Our goal here is to increase its chances of producing denser thicker buds than it already has, before it peaks out.

Its currently 17" tall and its pretty thin looking, due getting a pretty low concentration of light previously.

Strain is unknown bag-seed, however the buds do look pretty good.
Nice long white hairs all over her buds... they're just really thin and spread out.

.

Sorry, I have no advice, I guess I'd just try to max everything, light and nutes, making sure I don't burn it though.
Maybe you should tell us what nutes you're using, so that someone else may give more advice.

Good Luck!

I gave her a pretty low dosage of Schultz 10-15-10 a few hours ago, along with some water ph'd to 6.5. Soil ph is currently a low 6.

I dont have much in the way of good flowering nutes yet, since I wasnt expecting to take this one on, and my own plants are still a little ways off from flowering.

About all I have for any type of flowering nutes right now is the Schultz 10-15-10.

I will be heading out today to get something with a higher P, and lower N content though.

Dont you have a HPS that your going to use on ur plants but this plant could borrow, that would help

No I dont have an HPS lamp at the moment, between bills and upcoming holidays money is getting a bit tighter so I wont be able to afford them for my grow yet.

Most likely will be flowering with a ton of CFL's for this grow, unless I somehow manage to find a very cheap 200 watt (or better) HPS that is decent.
And by cheap... I mean under $100 (with the ballast lol)
Probly not gonna happen for this grow honestly.

The home depot 70watt HPS security lights are $75 each in my area. So for my first grow here I can save money while learning, and just add a few extra CFL's into my cab's, which also keeps temps much lower, and only has a slightly lower lumen output overall.

My next grow I will most likely be getting a 400-watt HPS system, but I'm still on my first grow right now and I'm still learning quite a bit.

I don't really plan to get a big op going honestly. Just enough for me to smoke and have a little extra for some friends when they stop over once in a while is my goal.

I'm not a daily smoker anymore, so I dont go through a whole lot. An oz of fairly good stuff will last me 2 months usually now. I purposely keep my tolerance level low. I used to smoke mids daily (and I mean all day long) for about 7 years straight. I had a pretty massive tolerance since I was going through an oz (or more) of mids every week. It also started to affect my job, cash flow, and my relationships, so I cut way back on my smoking.

Basically for 7 years straight I had dark red eyes, and if I didnt, I was using a ton of visine lol.

keep looking on ebay, that's where i got my 250 watt for $105. If you look for a while something should pop up

.

I think I would have repotted her though.
She's been badly planted.
Some might object since she's flowering, but I think it may give her a slight kick in the butt.
The pot looks big enough, but it looks like she may not have enough soil.

And a fan blowing on her, to thicken her stems.

Thanks for the ebay tip Cornelius... I found a few ballast kits listed on ebay that I should be able to afford pretty soon. Pretty cheap too... :)

I'll have to wire them myself but thanks to latewood's FAQ on how to wire them I think I should be ok.

Faithless...
I thought about re-potting it, but I'm not sure about doing that when its in flower already.
It is pretty scrawny looking though, so it might help.

I do have a small fan blowing on it to help thicken the stems already.

Since it looks to be heavy on the sativa side, I think I'll be able to get away with flowering it for a longer than normal time to get a better yield out of it.

Hopefully I'll be able to get it under an HPS setup as long as my next paycheck allows for it.

Thanks all :)
