Can anyone tell me if its OK to smoke, say an eighth a week at the most, on these meds?

600mg carbamazapeine daily
10mg Ariprozole (sp) daily
5-7.5mg diazepam when I feel like I need it
The ariprozole is to help with motivation, Im not a schizophrenic!

Cheers for anyone that helps out

I would say it's fine. I don't know too much about medication, but weed I don't think would have any affect on them. Might make you feel a little more funny, diazepam is that for depression or what? Pink pills? I think my ex boyfriend was on those.

Anyway..I am no professional or anything, but weed generally tends to be fine with most things.
However if you feel that you might not be able to handle it, then don't do it. All depends on how you feel.

yep i wanted to be put on meds because i was literally going nuts without them. im a lot better now, it took about a year of trial and error with different meds but ive finally found some that work for me. if i stop taking them then i just start to feel really depressed and eventually suicidal, with them i only maybe feel depressed once a year.
and im still crazy without the pills, just in a good way :)

edit: another name for diazepam is valium and they are bloody good! not as good as lorazepam though, diazepam are nothing compared to those. and tallulah, when i feel really crap i try my best to stay away from my girl, i dont wanna fuck her life up as well as mine :)
im off for tonight, gonna go watch Miami Vice with me old man

Same with my EX boyfriend. All the time he was trying different meds..nothing worked. He is now on a cocktail of drugs for depression/anxiety/psychoness.

Really sad....his mom was pretty messed up and in his teens he decided to go crazy with experimenting with drugs, pretty much ways always on acid or E.

If he doesn't take his meds he freaks out. I mean FREAKS out...like starts crying...not making sense....nothing helps...he wants to get all destructive. Lets just say it was a really bad unhealthy relationship..

I feel for you man, I do. I am a psych major so this stuff is really interesting to me. I know I suffer from a severe anxiety disorder..and I am almost ready to go get help for it...I know my life will be better once I do...

Anyway, good luck to you.

I have Anxiety and i am taking klonopin daily as needed. I sometimes feel that MJ gives me heart palpitations and more anxiety! DAMN, and i always said i will go to the grave with a fat 'J' in my mouth. go figure.
Tom, do you get heart palpitations or anxiety? I am not sure what the first med is, but i do know that Valium should not interfere in smoking
Just remember if the meds are working for you, then stick with it. Also are you seeing a therapist (not a head dr) cause i have and she knows i smoke and says it should be fine. PM me if you want :)

ive been put on tons of different pills. the docts say smoking cancells them out, but everyones different. never really thought that smoking changed what the meds did to me.

not a doctor just my opinion, i think you should be fine with smoking and taking medication, i just wouldnt drink on them, and if your smoking and on your meds and it doesnt feel the same and your heart rate increases then i would go to a doctor, happened to my brother, but he was taking adderall or ritalin, one of the amphetamines....nothing bad happened to him though

I agree with keeko: do not drink whilst on those meds.
I am on similar meds, and although I smoke on them, I havent drunk alcohol for 6 years.

with me, smoking weed has an increased effect and I get dizzy quite easily, but I think you'll be ok.
Your body will soon tell you if it's not! If in doubt, ask your doc xx

Swizzy's not dependent on those meds, Friendowl, but he does have some conditions that merit their use. Try not to give him grief about what he's taking since he's himself and you're you and y'all don't share the same body chemisty or diagnoses. Medicine needs to be a live and let live issue, just like food. Or water. If he feels like he needs the meds and they serve him well, then he gets to decide since he's the one who lives in his body and brain.

Tom, I can't say whether or not you should smoke with your meds or not, and I'd be doing you a disservice as a friend if I even hazarded a guess. No one is qualified to give you an answer on that except the doctor(s) who put you on them, in consultation with you and experience with how the weed interacts.

Would I personally smoke while using those meds? No, I wouldn't. But a lot of people do. If you ask your doctor and he/she tells you no, he doesn't think it's a good idea, are you going to take that advice?

Dont worry friendowl, you werent buggin on me or anything :)
I have asked doctors about smoking, and they all give me different answers, ranging from the ominous 'no' to 'once a week' to 'once a month' and Ive even heard once a year! Seems like no doc really knows, which is why I believe we need more tests on MJ. But thats another story...
And I dont drink alcohol at all now...

lol i'm on lorezapam, same way you're on diazapem, whenever i feel like i need it.

as for the question at hand, i would say more than likely it's safe, but as said before, none of us are doctors and can't tell you for sure, and if your doctors are giving you all kinds of diffrent answers, then i guess it's safe to say that no one really knows for sure... if it were me i'd still be smoking, and would only stop if i saw an adverse reaction to smoking... for the time being, the only thing that sends up a red flag to me, is that you're on diazapem for anxiety, and weed increases anxiety...

The docs can't give you a definite answer because they themselves have no idea whether or not it's harmful to combine with meds. There hasn't been any testing, sadly, because it's not considered an important enough substance to do real scientific testing on--and because the pharmaceutical industry doesn't want it even considered. Besides, with as many differences as there are among various strains, it'd be silly to provide a "yes, completely safe" or "no, completely unsafe" answer anyway since the strains have such different characteristics.

My own hesitation about smoking with those meds isn't because I think it's unsafe. It's because you're trying to make sure your prescription meds do their job correctly. And how can you accurately assess that when you're adding another psychoactive substance into the mix and you can't tell whether the effects you're experiencing are from the meds or the weed? You can't. Goodness knows it's lots safer than alcohol, generally, unless you have other underlying health problems that might be aggravated from smoking (and here I mean from smoking of anything, from cigarettes to weed).
