If you haven't already, go take care of your christmas shopping so all the stores won't be so damn crowded the last 2 weeks of december.
Come on people, we go through this same shit every year...

The last two weeks are the best time! Shoulder to shoulder, everyone racing for that one special gift that nearly every young kid wants...Tickle me Elmo's, etc....
Good times...

Christmas is so commercialized...but anyway, I do my shopping online sometimes or give money/gift certificates since I only have a few people that I "shop" for so I wait until the week of Christmas. I love watching people hustle and bustle.

Some people think money is too impersonal as a gift. But I think getting money to buy exactly what you want is better than getting some piece of crap you never would have paid for.

I agree. I personally have never received anything I wanted (or that I could use) for Christmas...or birthday for that matter but it's okay.

actualy, last xmas, i told my dad i wanted a bud, a couple packs of smokes, and a 6 pack of beer, he gave me every thing except the beer, he actualy did buy the beer, but forgot to buy my brother in law a gift, so he gave the beer to him.

how about we just avoid the whole consumer, materialistic holiday and not buy gifts at all. i hate this time of year because all i see is BUY BUY BUY and less tradition charity love. lets give eachother the gift of love and spend time with our families instead.

here's whay you do.......
take that money that you were going to spend on those you know and love, and....go to your local soup kitchen(preferably not one related to a church, but thats up to you) , and give it to them. ;)

Novel idea. But all the money in cleveland wont solve the homeless problem here. I gave a 20 to a homeless guy once, probably made his day.

it may not be "the" solution, but it does give one who may not have a meal a chance for a meal, and the energy to yet face another day, and in that day find hope and another chance.
I have no doubt that you made the day of another by giving them 20.00$
Imagine the feeling you'll have when you give another 20.00$, and it makes, your day;)
you sound like a kool cat greendragon. keep on strivin', and i'll do the same:thumbsup:

I'm not a religious person. But I still buy presents for my kid on christmas because it would be fucked up to get nothing when everyone else is getting something.
Know what I mean?

i'd take a one on one talk with my kid on why we dont celebrate christmas, over buying them a gift because " it would be fucked up to get nothing when everyone else is getting something"", any day

fortunately i dont' have to worry about this... my family hasn't really actively celebrated christmas since i was like 12... i mean there's always presents for the kids, a small get together of the family who lives closest to here (which isn't much, like at all..) but that's about it.... and since my whole family has basicly disowned me, i won't even be going to the party... haven't for the past couple of years either... would that bother most people? should it bother me?
i mean i do tend to get really depressed/lonely around this time (tho i'm not sure i will this year, usually i'd be already depressed, but it doesn't seem to be really bothering me this year) but my family has always disliked me so i've kinda grown used to the november-december cold shoulder i get....
but seriously, would that bother most of you? make you sad and feel like this world is against you? or would it just not really bother you?

this is gonna sound kinda dumb, but how is 'meek' used in that line? does it more refer to the people that are submissive/obiedient/tame, or does it refer to the people with great patients?
if it's the first one i'll inherit the world ;)

I tell you what, man. I get depressed/lonely too. It used to bother me a great deal. It still does bother me, from time to time, but I do the only thing I can do: live with it. Would I prefer things be different? Yes, but they're not, and that's just the way it is.
Do I feel like the world is against me? Not as much "against me" as they are consumed with themselves. They don't go out of their way to make my life miserable (anymore), but they don't have a problem with laying some misery on me if that's what it takes to preserve their own happiness.

Some people can be so selfish and ungiving sometimes. I think we forget what Christmas is all about (which can be different for everyone) sometimes.
