I have heard many people complain how the bible is sexist against women. Now many passages in it do state blatently FOR this fast. At the same time the bible contradicts itself in many ways. Do not take this next quote as the exact words of the scripture, I only remember my preacher from long ago telling it to me. I believe it is proverbs or psalms.

A man would rather lie on the roof with a hungry wolf than in the househole with a (The word that always comes to mind is brawling, though i am fairly sure this isn't what I am looking for) woman.

I think that the bible may directly contradict itself for several reasons.

1) To show that there are ways that both sexes should act at certain times. In case you havn't noticed the bible is more leniant on women when it comes to homosexuality.

Proverbs 21:9

9. It is better to dwell in a corner of the housetop, than with a brawling woman in a wide house.

Actually, the people in biblical times were quite sexist, and a woman had little leniency. I'd like to know where it talks about homosexual woman, though. I don't recall reading that...

Nothing, it's just habit...

I don't know why I do it. I just do.

Does it bother you?

If so, too bad, haha!

I use sarcasm sometimes, but only when it's obvious.

So, what's your theory again? That the Bible contradicts itself for a reason? Where does it show woman NOT being looked at as a lower citizen?

Also that was in the old testament. In the new testament jesus preached equality among everyone.

Old testament -->Genisis - Malachi
New testament --> Matthew - Revelation

Or were you asking something else?

the old testament was written before jesus, the new testamint was written just before his birth, till now.

Actually, it is my understanding that the New wasn't put together until many many years after Jesus' death. And many of the books in the New testament were not written til years after his death, either.

The new testament is a product of the church. It is simply a collection of books written about Jesus, and put together many many years later. As a matter of fact, there were several books found that were discarded altogether.

One being "The Gospel of Thomas"

None of them are the work of Jesus...

thats the thing about it, i could never trust humans enough.

i'm not religious. but if there was any truth to what jesus said, i'm sure that it would have been manipulated, some left out and i'm sure some completely fabricated. That is why i dont think the bible should be looked on as truth.

if you read the bible and it makes your life better than so be it. it dosn't need to be true to do that.

I was also unsure about the new/old test. i always thought it odd that there could be like a New and improved bible

I feel the same as you, Harris. It can be a very good guide book, but when you start taking it all as absolute truth, I think you miss the best part about it. To me the best part is simply seperating the BS from the gems of wisdom, and attempting to apply the latter into life existence.

I love reading the Bible, and I love talking about it. I'm not a religious man, but I do enjoy searching through the many. Although, the many is limited in my case, lol!

I just find the subject facinating...
