I need to get rid of the smell coming from my closet. I cannot vent it because it is an apartment and I cant drill holes in anything. If I fan air through a carbon filter in my closet when it is closed (sealed, except for the damn smell coming out...), will it eliminate a lot of odor?

I'm in the same situation as far as housing/growroom is concerned but luckily I haven't had to deal with smell yet- my plants are all still in veg. I don't know much about carbon filters, but someone did a post in the grow FAQ about how to build an odor eliminator using a bucket of odor neutralizing shit, and a small fan. They claim it's very effective, so you should probably check that out.
PS: if the closet is in a room with a window nearby, you might be able to run a ventilation hose across the ceiling or floor and out the window. it would look pretty bad if people could see the hose out your window, but maybe you could cover it up with a sarong, sari, or one of those bamboo/grass blinds.

I've used carbon for the last 4 or so gardens that I had. I didn't have any plans to go on, but I used to sell them so I was ok on that one ;)
From my point of view, both my cheapo version, and the one seen at the store's work exact. They do a pretty good job! the store bought claimed about being able to hold .3 microns if I remember right...hehe...gettin old.
The store bought had about 2 gallons of act/char. which had a 350 cu.f inline running it. Clearing a room 11x11x8'. Anything outside the room wasn't infected, but when you walked in the room...diffrent story. Of course you just walked into a garden full of WR!
Again down the road I scaled down and went small...cabinet stuff!
So I started to make my own design that would work well.
Just made a smaller version, using about 3/4 gallon act/char, with a 150blower, clearing an aera of 2'x2'x6'. That works like a champ! Gets in the way alittle but it's worth it!

good to know. Yeah, I wish i could vent outside, but the window is across the room from the closet.
So rollone, your room did not vent to the outside? just making sure before i shell out the bucks to build this thing.

My small one was recleaning the area inside the cabinet. No venting done with that blower. I had another for light/heat. this one didn't have any carbon, but I didn't have to run that one to much, my temp.s where in control.
So if your asking me if you should spend the money and time to do this then yea! thumbs up!...hell even heads up;)
Keep in mind when i do grow I strivefor control over the whole garden...including airtightness..if you can call it that.
I'd go with plans before you tackle this project.
Good Luck!

yeah definitely plan things out in advance. i tried to outfit my room without spending too much money on things, but you can only cut corners so often. im learning that you might as well just spend the money and get it done right.
