Alright guys this is going to be my first grow and I have been doing my homework for quite some time, although I need some feedback on the stuff that I'm buying. Also I've got some questions along the way.
So first of all, the space I'm working with is a walk-in closet with an 8' high ceiling, and I've got about 30 sq. ft of floorspace (about 5x6').
I plan on buying a Dual Autopot system (4 plants) with 10" pots.
As far as feeding goes I'm getting all Advanced Nutrients products:
SensiBloom
SensiGrow
B-52
Barricade
Carboload
Sensizym
Piranha
Tarantula
Voodoo Juice
Bud Blood
Big Bud
Overdrive
Final Phase
And for lighting I'm buying a 400w MH w/ a Hortilux Blue bulb to cover all color spectrums, and my buddy might be giving me his 200w HPS in addition to that.
I'm not buying any blowers or ducting or anything but I plan on keeping a few fans on and a window open to keep air going.
ALRIGHTTT
with all that stuff I've got there I've got a few questions
-with that space how tall should I veg to?
-what strain should i plan on looking for? any reccomendations for my conditions?
-would a little bit of dry ice sitting in a bucket in the grow room improve vegetative growth?
-how tall should i veg. to and how long would that take?
-finally, the ever asked question: any possible yield estimates under those conditions?
thanks guys

sounds like a fantastic setup in there mate! only thing i would say is make sure your closet doesn't get too hot so pleanty of ventilation! and second, i would get some CFL's, they have the perfect spectrum for veg, save you money on electricity bills and reduce heat per watt.
for an 8' space you obviously want plants about 6-7' tall, leaving some rrom for lights etc. howevery taking a plant this tall can be a little tricky but nothing to worry about really! remember a plant can double or tripple in height during flower so for our first grow try veging to about 3' and see if it fills your room, 3' should take about a month and a half to two months under the right conditions.
as for strains i would say avoid low ryders cos you've got the space to go tall meaning more nodes which means more bud sites which means more yeild! just try different strains but i started with outdoor strains for my first grows as they are more resiliant to any mistakes youmay make!
yeild... lol, who knows? but inthat sort of space with 3 females, maybe a bit of LST or SGROGing ou should do pretty well my friend!!
peace!

hey thanks for the quick response!!!
you think i should try an outdoor strain? i'm a bit skeptical. i was going to try something like NL or NLx Big Bud. Maybe even widow? I want MAX yields and MAX THC!

what do you think the most potent/high yielding strain is? hawaiian snow? big bud cross maybe?

big bud is renound for its huge yeilds or 'Big buds' lol. its also quite a hardy strain, although not the most potent strain which is why the big bud x NL was created, great potency without sacrificing much of the yeild... i was going to grow Big bud x NL for my last grow but could'nt get any seeds! i reckon thats a winner to be honest!

also mate, make sure those windows are blacked out so as not to let any light in or out! try just with the fans and see how you go without opening the windows, should be ok i reckon, especially if you veg with CFL's. also, having the window open engourages bugs! a problem that you think will never happen to you and always bloody does!

you can grow monsterous trees w/ auto pots and waterfrms . w/ your 8 ft. ceilings the 400 wont penetrte deep enuf . you want a 1000w. hps in a cool tube w. a good blower .

not to start an argument about light or disagree with people who probably have more experience than me... but i'd say you could build your wattage up cheaper and cooler than 1000w hps using CFL's, the 400w hps will give a good spectrum for flowering but because its not very powerfull the extra CFL's will give you the lumens of light you need. thats my opinion anyways.

im using a 400W full spectrum MH and a 200W HPS. I'm covering the room in reflective paper to maximize coverage.

yeah that gives about 600w of red end spectrum which is grest for flower but its gonna need more light than that! if you gt 4 100w CFLs then your at 1000w and it'll cost you about 10$ - seriously need to get your wattage up and the best way for you to do it my friend is CFLs!

To make up the difference in lumens between a 400w light and a 1k light (a difference of about 90,000 lumens), you'd need to use 45 30-watt CFLs. That many CFLs would eat up 1350 watts of energy, and generate way more heat than a 1k light.
CFLs have their place, but trying to emulate the lighting power of a 1k light is not it - they can't do that efficiently. If you need or want that much light, get two 600w lights (180,000 lumens), or one 1k light (145,000 lumens). There really is no efficient substitute for those lights if you need that much lighting. That's not to say that adding some CFLs won't help; they will. But don't get too whacked out on them trying to make them do what the bigger lights can do, because CFLs can't do that cost-effectively.
