My plants are turning yellow

i transplanted my three 13 day old plants yesterday to some 2 gallon pots using Shultzes professional potting soil plus...it had preadded nutrients in the soil... and now my leaves are starting to turn yellow, but mostly only the cotyledons (sp?). would it be ok if i let the plants try and settle in the soil, or should i transplant them into different soil? also my plants are almost two weeks old and only have the first set of leaves (not including cotyledons).. is that normal? :confused: :rasta: :confused: :rasta:

Plants should have more leaves at two weeks. I don't really know what to do, although I'd say don't transplant again, and flush the soil a bit to remove excess fertilizer.

how do i go about flushing the soil? just run the whole pot under a tap?? wouldnt that drown the plant?

i believe flushing is using like purified water, something with a good ph, definately dont run water straight from the sink into the pot.. as far as the yellowing leaves and the fact that u have so little leaves i had the same problem untill i bought some fish emulsion.. which is an organic fert os it shouldnt burn unless you use entirely too much, it has a 5-1-1 and should help your growth pick up, but flush before you use it.. thats my two cents, but dont go about doing anything too fast, pics and more advice wouldnt hurt so just wait for replies

Depending on how intense you want to flush...
First you're going to have good drainage holes in the pot so excess water easily passes through. Then just water as usual - but a lot.
Perhaps someone else has exact figures, but I would say probably somewhere between half to equal volume of water to soil.

I suppose purified water is prefered, but I've just done it with regular water to rinse all the nutes out.

The problem here though, is that 2 gallons with small plants will take ages to dry out, like a week or more, which is not a healthy environment for a plant, nor will you be able to administer nutes for that time.

So maybe in your case you don't want to do an extensive flushing, maybe just a good hard watering, just to dilute the soil.

Another idea that might work, which is what I did in the same situation as you, (though in reverse, long story lol) when I flushed small plants and they took forever to dry out due to large pot size, is flush just the area around where the roots presumably are. E.g. start rinsing out and diluting the soil where the roots are, which means the soil will dry quicker and allow more repeated and frequent diluting/flushing till things are looking better.

The cotyledons fall off eventually anyway, are you sure you need to do this? Pics?

Hmmm, sleepy so wasn't thinking too clearly, that probably won't help much in your position though.
I did it in reverse, e.g., I needed to administer nutes after a flushing that took forever to dry because of small plants in big pots, so as soon as I dared to, I began watering with nutes in just the area around the plant, while the outer edges of the soil continued to dry out.

cool, im gonna let them chill over night, and see if they dont look better in the morning. if not, ill just go ahead and flush them. ill tell ya how it works out. also, do you know any reasons why my plants still have only the first set of leaves?? could it just be the strain that i have? i bought a variety pack so i dont know exactly what kind of plants im growing at the moment, probably either northern lights big bud or white widow... this is my first grow, sorry for all the noob questions :P
