Hi ive been growing in soil for quit some time now. but want to try out hydro =) my set up will be a 30 gal res. with 9 carboys. "1 is a control bucket" my only prob is hight being an issue. i got a 4 foot tall flower room. and about 3.5 foot tall at the bottom of the light with it all the way up. so my queshtion is. instead of useing normal 5 gal carboys. could i get away with a 2 or 3 gal? same diamiter and everything just shorter. i know it will be more maintnence. but thats ok i can deal with that. any help would be great thanks =)

You can get away with it, but like you said, you will have more work. Maybe go with a rubbermaid grow tub and put 6 to 8 plants in a 40 gallon and forget the 30 gallon res. You can get a rubbermaid that is shorter than the 5 gallon buckets and a little taller than the 3 gallon buckets.

you can go with 2 or 3 gallon buckets. BUt you will have to keep a close eye on it, because your pH could blow up really fast since their isnt too much water to balance everything out. The grow sight is probably in our house so you have the conveinience to checking up on it whenever you want. Plus if you only have 4 feet to grow with the smaller buckets would be perfect to control the heighth.

aye was thinking that to. just wanted to make sure be for i go with it. something about 6 inches shorter then 5 gal's would be adequate ive also decided to just use 3 - 4 plants and scrog it out to the max so maby get some stocky buckets or rubbermaids +)
