Saudi court sentences rape victim to 90 lashes
By DPA

A Saudi court has sentenced a gang rape victim to 90 lashes of the whip because she was alone in a car with a man to whom she was not married.

The sentence was passed at the end of a trial in which the al- Qateef high criminal court convicted four Saudis convicted of the rape, sentencing them to prison terms and a total of 2,230 lashes.

The four, all married, were sentenced respectively to five years and 1,000 lashes, four years and 800 lashes, four years and 350 lashes, and one year and 80 lashes.

A fifth, married, man who was stated to have filmed the rape on his mobile phone still faces investigation. Two others alleged to have taken part in the rape evaded capture.

Saudi courts take marital status into account in sexual crimes. A male friend of the rape victim was also sentenced to 90 lashes for being alone with her in the car.

The court heard that the victim and her friend were followed by the assailants to their car, kidnapped and taken to a remote farm, where the raping occurred.

The victim was quoted by Okaz newspaper as saying she had expected harsher penalties for the assailants, especially as they had pleaded not guilty.

Her husband and family said that they would appeal to the court Saturday for harsher penalties for a crime which has shocked public opinion in Saudi Arabia and been the subject of months of debate.

US Soldier Admitted Iraqi Rape
The graphic account o the alleged assault came from criminal investigator Benjamin Bierce who said he interviewed one of the accused, Spc. James P Barker, on June 30.
Bierce was testifying on the second day of a hearing to decide whether a group of five US soldiers must stand trial.
James Barker is accused along with SGt. Paul E. Cortez, Pfc. Jesse V Spielman, Prc. Bryan L. Howard of rape and murder.
A fifth soldier, Sgt. Anthony W. Yribbe, is accused of failing to report the attack and is alleged to have lied to cover up for his colleagues.
The case is one of a series of atrocities blamed on US forces in Iraq.
Barker??s sworn and signed statement was submitted to the hearing and Bierce revealed some details during his testimony.
According to Barker??s statement, 12 soldiers had been drinking Iraqi whisky mixed with an energy drink and practising golf swings at a checkpoint south of Baghdad, on the day of the attack.
One of the men, Specialist Steven Green, said that he "wanted to go to a house and kill some Iraqis", the statement alleged.
Four of the accused ?? Barker, Sergeant Paul Cortez, Private Bryan Howard, Private Jesse Spielman ?? agreed with Green's plan.
They allegedly changed into black silk underwear and masks and set off for the family's nearby home, the statement said.
They then went to the house about 200 metres away and put the parents and the girl??s young sister in the bedroom.
It??s alleged Green and Mr Cortez then took it in turns to rape or attempt to rape the girl in the living room.
Barker said he heard shots from the bedroom, and Steven Green emerged with an AK-47 in his hand saying, ??They??re all dead. I just killed them.?
He then raped the girl and shot her dead before her body was doused in kerosene and set alight.
After the murders, the troops allegedly returned to their checkpoint 200 metres away and "grilled chicken wings", the statement said.

Not that you'll get it but, these soldiers have plead not guilty and they haven't been convicted of anything yet.

Apparently that doesn't matter, you have made up your mind.

BTW If they are convicted we won't dig up the dead girls bodies and beat them, or whip their parents, there's a difference here.

Focus real, real hard Krogith and see what happens.

Funny haha i thought we were in Iraq instead of Saudi Arabia.

AND by the way bong30. Of all countries in the middle east(besides Israel) We have closest ties to SAUDI ARABIA. Also where the supposed HIJACKERS on 9/11 came from. Guess what? Bin Laden's family is also from SAUDI ARABIA. But of course we could never even speak to them about this because we need there precious oil and they know it. We shouldve invaded saudi arabia instead.

EXACTLY, so why dont we oppose Saudi Arabia? Where this took place? We go to Iraq and afganistan but not Saudi Arabia. Of course this is a terrible crime with an even worse punishment for the victim. This is in Saudi Arabia. Why aren't we there?

Howdy Bong,

Thanx for this thread and the illustrative pics.:)

The naysayers in this thread, have had no direct experience with fundy or radical muslims, like I have and yer pics are right on target.

Saudia Arabia,is considered by muslims,to be the heart of Islam and sacred ground, which is why we have not taken the final step of confronting the saudi's directly..there is an order of battle,to be followed..just give us more time.

I apologize for not being here more often,I spend more time at the new marihemp forums, where many of the original's from marihemp, have gone to,and some of the best good guys, have been banned from here.

Just hang in there-you are right and the naysayers are wrong !

its funny to me that even though bin laden and his cronies come from saudi arabia, which is the most radical fundamentalist muslim country in the middle east, they chose to invade iraq, which is the least radical islamic country, and turn it into a breeding ground for terrorist activity. at the same time, they simply ignored afganistan and saudi arabia and let bin laden slip away. Mission Accomplished...i think not.

We didn't ignore Afghanistan but we did lose a lot of progress after we invaded Iraq.

Look, man. Saudi Arabia is, without a doubt, the largest threat to the U.S. speaking in terms of terrorism and islamo-fascism, as you like to call it. Yet...we didn't attack them? Huh?

We dismantled Afghanistan's government and practically destroyed their infrastructure just for POSSIBLY harboring Bin Laden, then we did the same thing to Iraq for fear of weapons of mass destruction...which was a lie...

Yet we didn't even fire one missile into Saudi Arabia, the heart of the problem? Why not???

I'm not going to be a dumbass and say "FOR MONEY!" but it is mighty suspicious to me.

Jake, I am going to make a thread about this.

But just to open your eyes a little more.....Please Im begging ( i dont be often) but Wenessday night you Must watch GLENN BECK. On CNN headline news......

Jake, what on earth are you talking about? It's simply a FACT that the Taliban was directly funding and supplying Alqaeda, they made no secret of it. I don't know what you consider "harbouring" Bin Laden, but whether or not he was physically in the country they still supported him completely.

Bong,

You claim Muslims are the infidels, when your own country is guilty of such despicable acts. Your country did not even repeal slavery until 76 years after your Constitution that guaranteed freedom to everyone was signed.

I think that is pretty ridiculous for a country to call itself the "land of the free".

Amerika is fucking joke. Accept it.

Anywho, this is MY fight. I'm 16, remember? This shit is going to directly influence my life here pretty quick, especially once I hit that draft age.

once again you resort to name calling instead of using logic to state your argument. why do you think we should die trying to stabilize the middle east? since when did america become the police force of the world? we will never be able to force peace on these people, they dont want peace and they dont want democracy. do you think we should keep on this path to utter destruction? at the cost of how many american and iraqi lives? at the expense of hundreds of billions of the american taxpayer's dollars? at the expense of the diplomatic standing of america in the world? at the cost of our core constitutional freedoms? the current policy is a deadly threat to america's freedoms and safety.
