trichomes are the crystal shiny looking sugar like stuff that covers your bud and parts of leaves..its the THC in the trichomes that get you high... the triches start off clear then they turn cloudy then amber.. well cloudy is said to be more of a heady high but amber is more of a chock lock body stone.. its said that the bud is at itspeak when all the trichomes are cloudy.. so you would let them go like say 90%cloudy n 10amber for best results.. or if you want a really heavyt stone let there be more amber.. just when the tricomes turn amber the thc converts in to cbn or simthin hense meaning the weed is degreading.. anyways i been drinking a german drink called jagermeister n smokin wed all night so sorry if i repeted myself.. i would read over the thread .. but as im bout to pour another drink n roll another spliff time is of the essence hehe;)

A 30x jeweler's loupe (ebay) also works okay, and any modern camera with a decent macro mode should work okay too. Here's a pic of some trichomes, they're the tiny globules on little stalks that coat the leaves and buds, and they change from clear to cloudy to amber over time. You want about 10 percent or so of them to be amber when you harvest. You can ALSO see some red hairs in the pic, but those aren't relevant to when the plant is ready to be harvested. (Pic taken with a Canon A620 in macro mode.)

you can use a magnifying glass as we do. Or even the bare eye. I harvest when just over 50% of the pistils turn ted, and about 80% of the trichomes turn amber in color. The more amber the more cannabanoid B variety you will have , which produces the couch lock cant get off your ass effect , compared to the translucent white crystals that are more common in sativas, and I find to be much more active, 'up' highs. Keep up the works man , good luck

Was the plant in the above picture ready for harvest? For some people, yes, for some, no. I waited about 5 more days after that pic before I harvested, when about 10 percent of the trichs were amber, 80 percent were cloudy, and 10 percent were clear. Came out great that way. In fact, I'm gonna go smoke some of that now! ;)
