(AgapePress) - Senator John Kerry says it was a "botched joke" -- but conservative and Republican leaders aren't laughing. And neither is the American Legion.

The senator from Massachusetts, while stumping for Democratic candidates in California, was speaking to a group of college students in Pasadena on Monday when he said: "You know, education, if you make the most of it, and you study hard and you do your homework and you make an effort to be smart, you can do well. If you don't, you get stuck in Iraq."

I know we could just blindly swallow the explanations that are being hurled at us by pundits and other members of the "liberal media".

But just on its face, doesn't this seem more like a jab at Bush's incompetance rather than the armed forces?

Im\still laughing at that joke, bush pulled about not finding WMDs in his office:rolleyes: ya if you really watched and read the whole quote you can tell he was calling bush stupid but i guess if you pay attention to foxnews and the other mediawhores you would not know it....plus wat can you expected from a fellow SnBs member to save his cousins party:thumbsup:

It just seems that if it was a "botched joke" he would have conceded that immediately and not waited over 24 hrs to release a "public apology," which didnt seem very sincere to me. This can be placed among that long list of priceless Kerry quotes such as, "I actually did vote for the 87 billion dollars before I voted against it."
Now all of Kerry's public appearances are being cancelled because other democrats don't want to be linked to him. (shows just how loyal the democratic party can be, similar to how they treated Lieberman during the primaries)

By the way, it's not just me and Karl Rove who are enjoying Kerry's misery. Below is a photo of US troops, in Iraq, lampooning Kerry's assertions.

What? As if that's different from the Republican's overwhelming sense of loyalty that has them rallying around Foley in his times of trouble right?

Right.

I remember a joke Cheech told on a sitcom about being in a Government program for underprivileged kids who couldn't affort college--it was called VIET NAM!

Quite an accomplishment spinning that into an insult against the troops. Then again, when the draft starts up to supply fresh victims for Iraq, that statement will take on a whole new validity.

It wasn't hard to understand that Kerry was referring to Bush.

Even taking it as a jab toward the troops....it is actually kinda true. Iv never met so many incompetent dumb as dirt people when I was in the army, I would say 60% of people are like that in the army. Its kinda funny that they are the people that get promoted the fastest because they always do what their told and don't question or think about anything. I was mildly offended by that "joke" since I served a year in Iraq but I wanted to point this out as well.

Kerry should keep his mouth shut and make room for a viable '08 candidate. That said, his "intent" was aimed directly at the reigning chicken hawks.

HE IS DONE FOR 08....thank god.

A Freudian slip, or parapraxia, is an error in human action, speech or memory that is believed to be caused by the unconscious mind. Some errors, such as a woman accidentally calling her husband by the name of the man with whom she is cheating on him, seem to represent relatively clear cases of Freudian slips. In other cases, the error might appear to be trivial, bizarre or even nonsensical, but shows some deeper significance on analysis.

The Freudian slip is named after Sigmund Freud, who described the phenomenon he called faulty action (Fehlleistung or parapraxis) in his 1901 book The Psychopathology of Everyday Life. Freud gives several examples of seemingly trivial, bizarre or nonsensical Freudian slips in Psychopathology; the analysis is often quite lengthy and complex, as was the case with many of the dreams in The Interpretation of Dreams.

Popularization of the term has diluted its technical meaning in some contexts to include any slip-of-the-tongue phenomenon, often in an attempt by the user to humorously assign hidden motives or sexual innuendo to the mistake. It is not clear, however, what Freud considered an "innocent" mistake, or if he thought that there were any innocent mistakes. The enormous quantity of slips analyzed in Psychopathology, many of which are banal or apparently trivial, would seem to indicate that Freud felt almost any seemingly tiny slip or hesitation would respond to analysis.

He is the elite of the elite.........looks down on us like dumb pieces of shit.

It's not surprising to see the GOP trying to make the most out of this. It's like a drowning man trying to save himself by holding on to a little piece of styrofoam. Sure it's useless, but ya still gotta try ;)

You have to admit, the picture is funny. Ya ll are right about Foley and republicans leaving him out to dry.

Although I think John Kerry could have said a few things that would have been a lot worse, its especially note worthy given his history. One of the major things that lost him the election in 2004 was his stubbornness. He would not comment on the swift boat thing at all. Those vets were legitimately pissed @ Kerry for his post-Vietnam behavior, he ignored it and lost the election. All John Kerry would say about his 1971 testimony was that his hair was too long. Also, according to the NY Times, on 3-18-06 Kerry was skiing in Idaho and collided with a secret service agent who was assigned to protect him. When asked by a reporter if he had fallen he replied, "I don't fall down, that son-of-a-bitch ran into me"

Kerry is an asshole, there are tons of anecdotes to back that up. I believe that many of you who are defending him, would be lining up to take jabs at the President if it was he who had started this controversy. But, similarly, I would probably be defending Bush in the same situation. Due to the fact that we all have biases, the only people who could legitimately hold this against him are soldiers and their families. Although I stand by my claim that he is an unwavering asshole, I will probably let this one slide before to long.

Well, we've had eight miserable years run by an oil family. I for one am totally willing to give the ketchup family a try. It couldn't possibly be any worse. In fact, I was thinking last night, that's really all the Democrats need to do with their ads - picture this:

Black screen. From the top drifts down this sentence in simple white letters: "Vote Democrat. We can't possibly be any worse than what you've had for the last eight years!" Then a voiceover: "This message brought to you by the blahblah Democratic blahblahstuff." Short, sweet, simple, and it'd likely work very well. Lol! ;)

Who needs a plan or a message when the CURRENT plan and message is working so poorly?

A number of top Democrats said they were upset with the senator for giving the Republicans election-time ammunition -- even if the GOP was hyping the remark.

"He has already cost us one election. The guy just needs to keep his mouth shut until after the election," a top Democratic strategist said Tuesday.
http://www.kltv.com/Global/story.asp?S=5620225

Congressional candidates in Iowa and Minnesota swiftly made plain that Kerry was no longer welcome to appear at scheduled rallies, and the senator scrapped an appearance in Philadelphia.

"It was a real dumb thing to say. He should say sorry," said Democrat Claire McCaskill, running in a tight Senate campaign in Missouri.

Are all politicians really that spineless? Kerry is a veteran and should have said 'fuck Bush and his war mongering spin, I'm trying to get your dumb asses out of Iraq alive!'

They think the public is so fuckin' stupid and thin-skinned that they can't figure out for themselves when someone is shooting straight or bullshitting them. Doesn't anyone have the coconuts to just get up there and spell it out without engineering every sentence to appeal to the broadest range of demographics?

A strong Leader isn't going to worry about hurting a few feelings if he's shooting straight and playing fair. People can sense this even when they're in their 'herd mentality' mode.

But politicians are all scrounging around for poll points like rats for acorns. The state of Government has gotten so contemptable it's nauseating.

And THAT is what I find so amusing about this whole thing. With all the speech writers, P.R. people, etc.......he still makes a "poorly written joke" of this nature. Wouldn't ya think that just before an election that someone would have paid a little extra attention?

It just seems like the Dems have created ways to shoot themselves in the foot now for quite a while.

It's called "Politics". A strong leader shouldn't have to worry about hurting a few feelings but sadly that's not how it works. You stroke this guy, blow that guy, and never say anything you can't back out of.

Ever wonder why all politicians seem like crooks? Because they are. It's all a big game and what it takes to win isn't honesty and a desire to help your fellow man. Anyone who truly has those qualities will be eaten alive the minute they start playing. How the hell else could a jackass like Bush get elected in the first place???

A nation of people with at least 4th grade educations will beget a government that knows the plural of sheep is sheep, not sheeps.

Saying that there are no conspiracies is like saying people don't ever breathe, but if you see a conspiracy every time you see someone breathing, you have a problem.

Tell the truth loud enough and long enough and with sufficient proof to back it up and you'll still find somebody who will refuse to believe it anyway.
