pretty unrelated to marijuana,(although it's primarily for listening to music high)but you guys seem pretty nice so i might as well ask....I'm thinking about getting an ipod nano, and the apple site talks about all this buying songs for 99 cents bullshit. Do i have to buy all new songs or can i just take all of the mp3s and things i've downloaded or ripped off of cds and upload them onto it?

Any song you have in MP3 format or can get in MP3 format can be put into your ipod. Any songs you rip from your CDs or download from any file sharing program can be used. I wouldnt pay to download anything from Itunes, theres so many other places you can get MP3s from.

itunes annoys the hell outta me...but anyway, why get a nano? They hold almost nothing,....seriously, once you have been spoiled with a mini, or even a 20-60GB, imagining a nano is impossible...lol I have about 1000 songs on my 6GB and I am running out of room...grrrrr

I actually like itunes but I agree about the nano. I've got a 30gb Ipod that's just about running out of room. You'll be amazed at how fast you can fill up 2-4gb, or even 30. Spend the extra now as it'll be a whole lot cheaper than buying a whole new unit later on.

I hear that within the next few months, all the new iPods released by Apple will have some kind of block on it that will not allow the iPod to play copyrighted music. You should buy an iPod before that happens.

That would be pretty stupid of them, considering they sell copyrighted music.

^^ I think they would lose a lot of money, if you could only play songs you bought from them.

that'll be the day the ipod dies. It's not like were being deprived of alternatives to the ipod.

Yeah, blocking copyrighted music doesn't make sense. Think of how many customers they'd lose if people couldn't put their cd collection on their ipod. Apple is way to business savvy to do something like that.

MP3's are a pretty lossy file format, however, meaning that they lose information everytime they are transferred from one point to another. I could see Apple putting something in the software that would detect how much "loss" has occured, and if it's too much it could be determined to be pirated and not allowed to play. Still seems like a bad marketing move though.

Yeah, that's what I meant. It blocks pirated music. My bad.

The idea of paying for music seems farcical to me.
