Whats the best ever horror movie?

i was watchin "the greatest horror movies" the other night lol

Alien came in at the number 1 spot, i'd have to agree with that myself...

course this was voted by the british public... but what, in your opinion, is the greatest horror movie ever?

The Exorcist.

I saw that movie when I was about 12 and it scared the shot out of me. I watched it again this weekend on TV and it still freaks the shit out of me. :p

yeah thats a freaky movie, it made it into the top 5, cant remember which number tho, but the sequels sucked ass, Exorcist: The beginning wasnt even slightly scary, was dissapointed in that bigtime, but the original rocks

Yeah, all of those remakes of the Exorcist blow. I saw the Emily Rose one too long ago and I fell asleep it was so boring. The entire movie was based in a courtroom...wow, exciting movie or what. :p

Nothing beats the original.

I also here this new movie Feast is pretty sick and twisted too. Slipknotphysco recommended it and I haven't been able to find it yet, but it sounds pretty nasty.

I dunno...

I don't fright of movies anymore..

But I got pretty freaked out by Resident Evil, because I used to play the games when I was 9 - 10, and I had nightmares from it.. :p So the movie freaked me out pretty much..:D

Wow Darkone, what an avatar you have there. :p I've seen that before called Snuff films do not exist or something. I was wondering, that isn't a real gunshot to the head? It looks so fake to me.

That animation is so fake. If you blasted anyone in the face with a hand gun at point blank 1.there would be a hole in her head. 2. more brain matter and less red blood. It's probbably from some horror flick, or from faces of death.

Rewatch the headshot sceen from full metal jacket. Thats a pretty good interpritation.

i really want to see seven now

Seven is an awesome movie, freaky as fuck, and a plot twist to end all plot twists lol...

but i still think Alien is the best, maybe not after you've seen it a hundred times or more (believe me, i have :o) but first time i seen it i was havin nightmares :( lol

Yes the shining! I love that movie, even though i have seen it 400 times it still freaks me out when he's kissing that chick in the tub, and when she sees the reflection in the mirror and it says murder.

Ha ha! Yeah, I guess I never thought of it that way. Especially with the hand cannon the guy uses in your av. That would blow half her face off. :p

The Shining is another freaky one. That kid saying Redrum freaks me the fuck out!

Another movie I found frightening was something called Event Horizing. It's a movie from the early 90's and I don't remeber much of the story, but I do remeber it spooking me for awhile.

Motel Hell. Get really really stoned and watch it. You won't be disappointed. (well, unless you're expecting to be scared by it).

Man, it's really hard to pick just one, but I'd probably have to go with The Exorcist. And some of those sequels are damn good, too. Not the second one, but the third-where that serial killer is locked in the hospital and is sharing a body with the priest that saved Reagan in the first one. Creepy ending!

I also love Halloween (surprised no one mentioned it), Texas Chainsaw Massacre (original, and ONLY that), and the Blair Witch. I think I like Blair Witch so much is because it's not acting. It's real. What a great idea the producers had: find 3 random actors, set them up in the woods, and scare the shit out of them and film their reactions. It's very emotional which adds to the realism, plus it's creepy.

Basically any horror movie made from 1995ish and on is SHIT. Pure shit. All the great films were made way back in the day. This popular culture bullshit that's out now makes me sick. Saw 3, newer shit versions of texas chainsaw...pshh..come on. ~

I really loved Evil Dead 2
I know it was more comedy than real horror
but i thought it was really good!

I also liked Basket Case 2
but really old and not scary at all!

Ya, my vote would probably go for The Exorcist as well.

If you remember a few years back, they rereleased it into theatres. I was still young at the time, and had to have my friend's mom buy our tickets so we could see it, and we were definitely horrified by that movie.

Blair Witch was very original, and is in a category all by itself when it comes to horror/scary flicks. Some of the movies today like your Saw's and others, I think are in more of a thriller/suspense/drama genre rather than horror itself. They are not scary, just rather disturbing and bloody. Also, I'm sorry, but I definitely would not label Jaws and Aliens as "horror" movies...very good movies...but not horror movies IMO.

Its hard to pick just one but Texas Chainsaw Massacre (original) and
Audition are the ones I think of right off the bat.

If you haven't seen Audition yet check it out, it's a Japanese horror flick
and the girl in that movie does some pretty twisted shit...LOL

Yeah, haven't been around these parts for a while. I drop in every now and then. Graduating college in December means I have tons of shit to do.. and I've been dealing with some family issues (step-dad's cancer has returned).. so I've kinda slacked off on postin'.

But it's good to be back.. nice to see ya! :) I'll take a few hits off the pipe for ya.

Ok, blair witch sucked. How about the Shining? The movie was so brilliant that it almost didnt feel as scary. I was watching it stoned and realized that Krubricks appeal is his ability to magnify everything so it all looks like its on a very grand scale (which it usually is). I liked the Exorcist. It has a very interesting "Feel" to it. I watched it stoned the first time and was like, this isn't scary, everything looks so fake. But I loved the narrative and all the different levels it had.

i love horror movies and dont feel like listin every one, but exorcist easily tops the list.

I agree, The Blair Witch was an awful movie. I went to that movie dead sober and even if I was drunk, it is still would have sucked. :p I don't know, I just found it, not scary. More like a lame attempt at being scary.

I wacthed Feast last night. Not so much scary, but brutal violence and so fucked up, sooooooo fucked up. :D Thanks Slipknot!

mabey i just got into the blair witch. That movie had me scared to venture into the woods near my house. I put the saw movies, feast, hostel, the mark of the devil..... ect. into a whole other genra..... Gore flicks. or GORROR. they have only one thing blood, and lots of it. no plot,no main stream actors, just some wako chasing people arround and cutting their legs off.

Blair Witch was good because nothing like it had been done before. I don't think it was meant to be scary as in 'pop out from behind a tree' scary, but rather the entire setting and mood of it all just plays with your head. It's definitely eerie though, and that's what makes it so good. The feeling it gives you is all too real because for the most part, most of the movie is not acted out - it's real. The ending is the only part that was obviously staged and set-up, but other than that, all the movie producers did was give those 3 up-and-coming actors cameras and set them out on location. The producers were the ones making those noises and playing the 'little children chatter' and so on, but the actors didn't know it, so that's why they all give such a convincing performance. I just love how their emotions all spiral out of control by the end, and they're so strung out from it all - it's amazing to watch.

That's just my view on it, but for those that say it's not a good horror movie, or just a good movie period, never gave it a chance from the beginning. It isn't a typical 'abrupt loud noise and scary monster' type-movie, so don't expect that. It's a very real, spooky kind of art that I dig. ~

I dont go to movies to watch reality, I go to movies to escape from reality. I don't care how "realistic" was, it didn't do anything for me

Dude, saw that the other day. Its intense while your watching it, especially high, but i was really disappointed in the end. The whole movie i was waiting for this scary ass moment, but it never really came. Wtf was i supposed to see in that one scene where looks like theres something wrapped around the tent??? And wtf happens in the end, one guys just standing in the corner....w...t...f.

Remember the legend of the Blair witch they tell in the movie, where she had all the little kids stand facing a corner while they were killed one at time? Eh? Ring a bell?

And fik - I think that the realism of it makes it so good-because it is as close to reality as possible, it spooks us out and plays with your imagination. It's actually something that's a lot more believable than a movie like "ghosts of mars." Haha, Ice Cube was in that one I think. ~

While it's true that reality can be quite enjoyable at times, I have a lot more fun creating alternate realities. Be it through drugs, music, film, writing, even traveling to new places gives you a certain type of high. But I know what I like and I like what I know and I didnt like Blair witch.
