View Full Version : When to harvest my plant

So I'm wanting to harvest my plant but not sure if I should. I flowered at a little before two weeks of veg growth, and am in the eigth week of flower. Most growth and water usage almost completely stopped maybe a week ago, and the topmost calyxes have withered pistils, but all in all about 50% of the pistils are still white. The plant has a lot less smell than it did a week ago. Not many trichomes have turned amber, but I've spotted a few. There is one thing that's confusing me though, there are these like calyx clusters on what look like little stalks that are starting to grow out of the buds, out from the old calyxes. They are like a circle of joined calyxes with many many pistils, and they're just starting to form. So should I wait for these calyxes to grow, or harvest according to trichomes on the older part of the buds?

well normly your top of your colas will mature first and make its way down. i think thats a perpetual harvest (cuting each individual bud off as they mature) im probably wrong about that. this is what i use for refrance.

Sorry I don't have a camera. But I found a thread on a different site that has exactly the same thing, that cluster growing on the top in the image is what's growing on my buds, although not directly on top, more to the side a bit in diffeent places:

a lot of times plants(buds) will get a second SPURT of growth in the 7th week.. it is often attributed to over fertilization.. The "seed pods" sort pop out of there normal growth patter and kinda hang off the bud.. is this what you are talking about...?

If they hermied or got pollenated somehow...rapid calyx formation and resin production would slow dramatically...If you have some amber trich's then you are at or getting close to harvest blessings. flush them in the next week or 2

Yes that seems to be what it is. And since yesterday the biggest pair of fan leaves have turned yellow.

I think it's been about eight weeks. I haven't sampled because I haven't smoked in maybe seven years and need to find the right setting to smoke. So I shouldn't wait for the newest growth, but should just harvest?

If you have a sativa phenol it could take 10-12 weeks to finish, as opposed to indica phenol which can be finished in 6-8 weeks.

Just a tidbit of info...peace

another general rule of thumb is that if the top pistil's are dying faster than the lower newer buds are producing then it is about time, but It sounds like the top of yours is still ready to go...I would watch those new vibrant growth spurts before I harvest...might create quite abit of extra yield if you wait.

Well I guess I'll just wait another week, so difficult to wait though.
