well, lets see....
i gess i should start off by saying "hi" to n e 1 who drops by this thread. i beleive this will end up being quite a brute; i have a tendency to come up with the strangest ideas/questions at the most unusual time and places.:p i shall relate to everything stated as present tense, like i'm actually doing things instead of just thinking them...;)
more about me later.:o
ok, i saw at lowe's a 400w hps bulb. i walked around to the fixture isle, but alas! no 400w unit! so, looking at the bulb box, i see a note, "use only with ansi51 ballast". i walk around again, but, alas!! i find nothing that says "ansi51" anywhere! :(
questions:
what is ansi?
can i get just a ballast, and wire it myself?
how much (guesstimated) would the ballast cost?
~note~ i have sockets for the 400w bulbs. i don't have any idea where to get a 400w fixture, and ordering online is not going to happen.:(
~hypotheticle scenario~
ok, i have a friend of a friend of a friend of a friend of a.... you get the point. she is currently growing cannabis for medical reasons. for fun, i'll go through this memory in the first person, like it was me growing. ((easier to say me/i than her/she etc.) i don't partake or have involvement with anything illegal; this is all 100% made up. not real.) i have a bagseed plant. about 6 weeks flowering, give or take a week.:o she was grown outdoors and recently brought inside due to cold snaps.she is budding nicely, buds are starting to fill out but still small, however, i notice there are much fewer trichomes on her buds than on any picture i've ever seen.
questions:
is it normal for buds to lack trichomes; do they form later on?
are there any nutes or other products to increase trich count?
is it normal for buds to be the size of my thumb at this age?
i have recently changed my room arrangement as well. i have 8 blueberry from seed, two cuttings from each. the seeded have been flowering for a couple weeks, i discovered 3 males and sepparated them out. now they are being starved and are dying of thirst ( the bastards deserve more!!) but sadly i've decided that they may be of use to me; i need seeds, so i will keep them alive just long enough to take the friut of their loins for my daughters. but the six copies have gone to the hogs.
well, i think that'll do for now, but don't worry; it gets better! stay tuned folks, same time, same channel, and well see you all later!:)

I too have wandered through lowes - and found the same issues you have. I found myself strangely attracted to secuity lights at office buildings, like a moth to a flame. But your best bet ( i have been told) would be to purchase on-line from someone like http://www.e-conolight.com/Product/EFamily.asp or http://www.1000bulbs.com/.
Peace
:pimp:
as far a resin go`s(gland heads on storked trichomes) keep the air as dry as pos idealy humidity around 50% or lower this can be controled quite easyly and cheeply with a small dehumidifier. Apart from good light this is the only other facter you can easy control for better resin production.
I don`t think the size of your bud is a problem as long as they have adaquet light they will reach potencial.
My good buds(flowering cinamon and grapefruit under 400w hps, almost done) are about an inch long and nice and fat.
but the i do`nt know the size of your thumb.

I love the newb's, LOL.
Molasses 1 Table Spoon per gallon will help in flower to break down more of the nutes that you may decide to use giving a greater efficiency to the nutes and a smoother smoke to the final product. Also, going with a light cycle of 10 on and 14 off may help to fatten up the buds.
If you do want to order on line, then I can point you to a place to get a 400w bal for $44 and a 1000w bal for $105.
Adieu sweet Southern Comfort, oh yes my name is Bear, I have been known to be called darling Bear by my closest companions. LOL

~hypotheticle grow update~
everybody got watered today, three males went out side. first set of clones are vegging nicely, second set is doing fine, still rooting. outdoor girl got a little too much light today,(fell asleep, so she got an extra hour),i have to turn her lights on/off manually.
~for my responders~
to hemlock: ah, yes. those office security lights cause many a "deer in the headlights" look (they're soooo beautiful!) lol. n e idea of store (not online) where these security lights can be found? thank you, great evergreen!
to zigi: i have dainy little paws. so my buds are pretty little marbles (you know how there are two different size marbles? my buds range from the small size to the larger size) thanx for the input, do you know how to increase the [I]number[I] of trichomes?
and to my darling bear: can sugar be substituted for molasses? just wondering, i don't have any molasses around the house. for the light schedule, if you think that will help, i shall start tomorrow. and alas, online ordering is out:(
it is good to meet all of you, you have been very helpful so far. please feel free to stop by kingdom often. for those who prove their worthiness and mettle i may so reward thou with knighthood.
thanx to everyone, once more
love, kp
ps bear, i'm not normally so forward, and hope you do not take offense from the "darling bear" statement. as we have only just met, we could not possibly be the closest of companions, however i feel as if i know you from another life, as if there were some sort of ethereal bond between us. i just could not restrain my fingers! i shall try not to be so forward in the future.
that being said, farewell to all, and to you my darling bear.

Yes indeed my lady you may use sugar. You vividly remind me of a wood sprite that I new in another time and another world, and I will seek to learn more about you and your unique similarities to that kindred spirit. Those security lights can work, but they can get a little hot. If you get one, I think that I may be able to find some threads on how to modify the light cover and wire them up so that the ballast is remote so it can be separate from the light and remove some of the heat problems associated with the lights.
Wish I had more answers to give you, but with my own daily trials and tribulations, I lose the little creativeness and insight into these matters I do have.

thanx bear, i will indeed use sugar. 1 tbsp per gallon, right? also, if i do get a security light, i'll disect it and turn it into a homemade cooltube (i have some oil lamp covers for the tube) and mount the ballast outside of the flowerbox.
~two questions reitterated~
what does ansi mean?
is there any way to increase the trichome count? or will she develope more in the next 2 or 3 weeks?
thanx a bunch!

Sorry on both ends of the questions, I searched high an low and found no info on the antsy terminology, and as far as the trichome increase goe's, the only thing I can find or think besides an assortment of flowering nutes and additional light is the sugar and decreased light cycle. The photo synthesis plays a key role in the trichome development and the nutes are little components that help to unlock the potential of that key, so with a plant that large and with so little light, or nutes that are high in P and or made for bud enhancement, I am at a los, but perhaps someone will arrive to save the day.
Believe me though, I have beat the bricks trying to find and think of something that may help. Sorry if I am coming up too short to really help.

Maybe granny can help...in another life she worked someplace where such things mattered but her memory isn't too good anymore. ANSI is an acronym for American National Standards Institute so you see it's not a specific ballast, but rather a rating or standard for a ballast meaning you need one that meets the ANSI 51 standard...if I remember correctly...
BlueBear
10-29-2006, 07:20 AM
Granny thank you so much for that tid bit of info. I truly did look for it. We can always learn from our elders, so don't hesitate to chime in on the in door section and teach us or scold us, what ever seems best.

thanks bear, i know you kid what you could, i'll try ferts and sugar today.
~question~
can any one list ballasts that meet the ansi 51 standard? they had like forty different kinds of ballasts, they just didn't say ansi 51 on them. like i said, i can't order online, so if one of those at lowes will work, that would be incredibly and totally awesome.

Hola, KP.
Here's a thread I posted to a little while back about trichome production.
Do Not use a Blacklight in your growroom (http://boards.cannabis.com/showthread.php?t=83873&highlight=UVB+light)
Basically, another way I've read to increase your trichome production is to give them UVB light. Try a lizard "desert" light (http://www.petguys.com/-097612343360.html). :D That plus low humidity will force the plant to grow more trichomes in an effort to protect their "seed" inside.
I'm sorry, but I don't know anything about the ANSI electrical stuff you are talking about. Can't help in that department.
So are we going to be able to see any pics of your friend's friend's friend's plants? Maybe you could look up some on the web and post pics that are similar to what you would imagine they would look like? :D
Be like the wind...cool & fleeting.

wind words to the fog, thank you so much, i'll try to get a uv b bulb today.
for pics, i'll see what i can find that looks similar. i added 3 23w cfl's to the outdoor girl this morning, put up a ton of reflectors; i think light amount has doubled

You know, I have herd the same thing about the UV rays and such. They are supposed to help with TC productions and also control pest some how.
Well good morning Princess. You rise early this morning, or have a long night?
Hope your sleeping OK.
Adieu
Kindprincess sorry for the slap dash reply if your not (wasn`t) using flowering nutes thats your best bet, what are you using? im on biobis topmax i find all biobis stuf top notch.
My cinnamon were low on the trich count until i got the humidity down thats why i mentioned it, doin great now.The notable increase comes in the last 3 weeks as the gland heads swell and burst.
however, differences in resin production caused by any of the growth factors (light, temp, humidity, nutes, water, etc)are small compared to differences caused by the variety(heredity) and full maturation (expresstion of heredity)
So for good resin production choose seeds that (should at least) produce resinous bud then try to improve the growth factors every grow is work in progress after all, small tweaks here and there can make all the difference.
Why not flash dry some and see how it smokes low resin doesn`t nesesserely
mean crap smoke.
keep me updated your maj.

i think this humorous as well, though i don't exactly know what you're talking about, weed hound. ansi? if you are saying to ask them for help finding a ballast, i've tried three different lowes electricians, they were all clueless. i can't believe it, but i know more about lights/ballasts/wiring than these morons! welcome to hickville.
lo bear, i had a long night, and an early morn. i did not get my uvb bulb, but i will, i may have said this, but i put up a ton of reflectors downstairs around the outdoor girl. she seems to like it better that way, though temps are holding still at 85 (as low as they go) reflectors form a box, allowing only half the circulation. but, buds look bigger already (wishful thinking?) and i can see more trichs.?. yep kinda wierd, but only about a third of the plant has a good tc count.
~hpotheticle question~
is it possible for different parts of the plant to mature sooner than the rest?
to zigi, thanx, i'll cut a small bud and try her out to see what we're dealing with.
well, i'll be back after the lights change.
love, kp
the buds at the top(gettin more light) will obviously be the best most trichs etc.
Is that what you mean?

I humbly beg your pardon for assuming you did not ask the peanutheads at Lowes and frankly I should have known you would not get a decent answer from them anyway. Since I know less about lighting than either you or the Lowe's dudes I will confine my future input to things I think I may thought I might have known at some point.

zigi, this plant can be seen as three sepparate plants (three different main areas) on one section, the hairs have started turning orange/red; this section shows more trichs. the other areas have white hairs with some pink thrown in for splash, an much fewer trichomes.
~hypotheticle question~
is it possible for one main branch to mature faster than antother?
i'll say this, the branch that has the ripe looking buds started to flower b4 the rest of the plant did.
i hope it is not ready yet, the buds are still so small... about a tenth of the size of my previous outdoor gro's. i'll give her a few more weeks. incidently, my dog ate my log... wow, that ryhmes! but i don't know when my plants did what now, so i'll have to use someone else's post on this site.
to my hound... please do not abandon, i know little of lights and ballasts myself. i only said that the lowe's guys were friggin morons. come back often please...
where are you bear? lights come on in 20 mins...

thanx damian, i'll try to find one of those stores.
thank you too, granny, knowing what ansi means DOES help... now i just have to find a ballast to match the bulb. i took a bulb out of the box and found the numbers of the correct ballast (can't remember now, r something) but i figure that this is going to be the way to match up.
still have one bb from seed that has not shown sex yet... first to show flower (female) is begining to look tantalizing. she is starting to get hairs all over the place.
can't wait to see what the outdoor girl looks like in the morning, she is starting to go into high gear it seems.
found out i had a couple of clones mixed up... had plant 2 switched with 3, so i had two male clones under the veg light. thankfully, i hadn't tossed the clones yet, so situation has been remedied.

dear sweet, darling bear...
i'm so sorry to hear of the new. i've been at work all day, just got home. i can relate to the loss of childhood friends, as most of mine are on another plane of existence. wow, i feel bad for posting an update now. well, bear, i know that you'd want me to keep on posting so....
to the fog, still haven't figured out which ballast (i need model numbers or something) and outdoor girl has done me right and proud today whilst i was away. her buds are deffinitely starting to swell, and gess what... more trichs than yesterday! like twice as many. but only on 2 branches.
to zigi, you know how when you top a plant, you get 2 main branches instead of one? well imagine having three main branches, then immagine these braches becoming so stretched they fall to the ground and start growing horizontally. this is what happened to sage... she got way too little light for about 2 months durring a spider mite infestation (she is the only survivor of 10 initial plants). n e way, these three main branches have grown into what looks like sepparate plants. each main branch has about 20 branches.
the three main branches look to be in different stages of developement. she is under 9 23w cfl's. flowerbox for bb's has 4 48'' kitchen and bath flo's and 16 23w cfl's.
5 female bb's are doin excellent! lst'd one is a late bloomer. they are stretching lik crazy with tons of new growth in between. we're talkin thousand of hairs guys!! (tons of branches due to lst/topping) can't wait til these are actually budding...
as for clones... 100% sucess rate! all have rooted and are vegging, now its time to reread on clone moms (i have 2 clones from each female in veg now, plan on having one of each as a mom, and quick flower the rest, maybe a week or two of veg from this point)
clones are under 2 48" ge daylight tubes. feeding clones with green light root builder... flower nutes is super bloom by green light (i love this stuff!!!)
ne way, gotta go for a while, i'll be back later.
so sorry, bear:(

dear bear,
good early morn, wanted to say that bb #8 had grown too tall for the box... so i bent her heads over and tied them down... now she's starting to look like sage.
~reasons for no online ordering~
first and foremost, paranoia. how do we know these sights are legit and wont give out personal info? i see every orange street light from point a to b on a drive. they have to know what's up if i just order a ballast and not the hood/pole.
second, no credit card. i live a cash money life, babe.
in general, i'm just afraid of online do's bc of the paper trail. this site is different. we aren't giving out our physical address here...
unless one of you guys has spare...
well, that's all for now folks...oh yeah, almost forgot. how large a pot do you need to keep a clone mom?
take care, sweet bear! love to all...

I like the cash thinggy as well, but FYI you can go to banks or Waly Marts and get a pre paid credit card that works like a gift card, you can give any name, and use it online no problem. But I under stand your other points. You know I have an extra 400w street light ballast around that was given to me about a year ago, never hooked it up, takes raw wiring, might be a headache, not sure, but I would get it your way if I could. ok guys, here's the latest...
the 300w bulb kicks out some awesome yellow light, however, it is WAAAY too hot. might try this somewhere in the basement that doesn't have heat later this winter.
bb's are quite impressive, they're slowing the stretch now. i bent all but one of #8's branches down last night. they still have nothing but hairs yet, but there's more of em'...
took a sample from sage this morn, it is in the drybox right now. hopefully tomorrow, maybe the next...
well, oh yeah! sage's clones are flowering awesome as well. 3 are about 9 inches, 10 nodes, the 4th is about 14 inches, 15 nodes.
bb clones are doing great, the first that were started are vegging jungle like, and the newer ones are starting the veg (yellow tipped leaves tell me they now have roots!)
males are sick... they don't like it outside... but...one looks like he'll bloom tomorrow! i hope so... i'm ready to feed him to the hogs!
n e way, i'll try to find some simillar pix this evening,

that would be an excellent move bear, you should move to London, it's great here - everyone puffs 'n' stuff but the weather is shit - prehaps that's why we puff 'n' stuff so much.
I've never seen a gun except at the airports and Downing Street - sometimes I do wish they would shoot Tony Blair, but I soon get over it

hi guys,
turns out that i didn't burn sage (came REALY close though). she is starting to smell all fruity...
~remix er er er er er......~
is it possible for one main branch to mature faster than the rest of the plant? need to know if i should cut... i can't get a microscope until next week...
dear bear, my faithful knight of gleaming armour... thanx SO much, ... well, i'll be back when the lights change

Yes, a branch may mature faster than others do to more light contact, earlier bud development and so on, and many people do harvest certain parts of the plant letting the rest mature.

~update~
bb #6 and 8, the two lst'd; MONSTERS!!! i love lst. all plants had been topped at one point or another so i have many, many many main branches. the other 3 are groing upward, no lst...
sage's buds are starting to swell. i'll be able to do a trich check next week.
clones are excellent! going to clone two of the bb clones tomorrow (#2 and 8) so, we'll have two new moms...
sages clones are also doing great in flower. i have to make some time soon to rewrite my log dates, so i know who went where when. i know the bb's come off just before christmas (yep, its gonna be a damn good christmas! maybe i'll leave santa some bud and cookies...).
i'm going to harvest sage off the trich check method, bc i don't know exactly when she started. she began flower outside. i'll wait until mostly amber, as i like the couchlock (anxiety and insomnia probs).
that's it in a nutshell, folks. be back latr

Hey princess, I haven't been on too much, because I am building this new room, and am doing it single handedly for the most part and it is a little difficult to use these power tools with my vision prob, sawzaw, drills and so on, but it is coming around. I had to put a hole new wall that was about nine ft, 2x4's brackets ply wood and all. I have to enclose the door now and turn it into a secret door. After I am all done you won't even be able to tell that there is a 5 by 9 room there, hopefully.
Well, sorry to hear about your (anxiety and insomnia problems, I have bad (insomnia my self at times, and that is one reason that I do what I do, if I light up right before bed I get a decent nights sleep and can sleep most of the night. I know how it feels, some times I wake up at 3 AM and can't go back to sleep or I just lay there for hours and hours.
Well, know your not alone in your struggles. I haven't forgot about the ballast either, just have been working like a mad man to get done before my new ballasts get in so I can get these 12 little girls from under this 175 MH in a really small cabinet into my big cab under a 400w MH for a couple of months and put about 20 more in flower.

Room is trying to come along. Got my other ballasts in the mail today and now they need to be wired, wonder if my wife wants me to do that on my own too? Well if you don't hear from me for about a week then you know that I did it on my own and it didn't work out that well and I am no longer around here in the flesh, only the spirit.
Well, I have allot to do and I am starting to feel like EOr the donky from Poo, but I am not into yelling and throwing fits, so I will just try to suck it up and be patient and take my time to get this done even if I have to do most of it on my own, on top of dishes, laundry, dogs, shoveling snow and little ones.
Lock, I may have to do the book shelf thing, right now I was thinking about a wardrobe and have the back open up, kin of like "The Lion, witch and the Wardrobe." Will be my Narnia.

sucked down a bowl, and was kinda dissapointed... two good hits and not much to show for it... so, i packed another... but it has taken me an hour to smoke it. sage is a little creeper! not kind, by any means, but very sativa, with a space age effect...

i think root builder is burning a couple of my clones; they are super rooting, but new growth is yellow and wilted. these are the late bloomers, though, so we'll see how they are tomorrow eve...
sage is EXPLODING! her buds are growing by the minute (or so it seems...). so far i see at least an ounce, maybe 1.5 after dry (past experience gesstimates)

Thanks Lock. KP the hush mail should be affective tomorrow sometime and I already have that out ready to be packed up in a box of peanuts ready to make a mess for you when you open it.
Well as for my room, I put together one of my hoods last night, the thing is 4 FT diameter and took a minute to do on my own, still have one more to do. Wired up the 400w today with wify, nice treat. Picked up some roles of plastic to put on the floor and to help seal the walls of the new room. Got about a dozen clones under a 175 MH about to go under the 400w for two months, they are already about 2 weeks since rooting so they will be about 10 weeks when I flip them into flower. There are about a dozen seedlings about to take their place and 4 old mothers that I am flowering out in the 1K cabinet, about to go in the new 2K room when it is done. I also had to pick up some tarp zippers today and other than the Oder neutralizer that I am going to order on Mon I think I am good as far as having everything, now just the elbow grease. OH, I may fire up the CO2 tank this run if I get around to it.
Wish I could sample Sage, but maybe I will get to meet one of her offspring someday.
As for the struggling clones, I have found that no matter if you cut and treat every clone exactly the same, some just are a little weaker and have a harder time for what ever reason and that's the breaks.
PS, when the room is complete, maybe I will give a one time shot of it for you. Adieu

If you wanna save money you can call a local electrical supply and just ask for a 400w HPS multi tap transformer kit with capacitor and ignitor. Like $110 And those poor males you are torturing please just kill them. Torturing plants is bad grow karma. ANSI s 51 is any 400 hps ballast. Ansi m-59 Is any 400w M.H.

well creac, soon as males give me some pollen, it is to the hogs they go...
400w hps multi tap... does this mean you can run more than one bulb?
to hemlock, some of sage will go into storage for safe keeping (you ever hid a stash and forgot until you ran out for a few days?) her offspring will also be around. some...where...over the rainbow...
did a trich check on sage... (got my microscope(60-100x) today) only about half cloudy yet, the rest are clear...
bb's are starting to look like buds. now they have tons of hairs.
sounds like the room is almost done, bear...(putting my little lab to shame...)
clones are good, even the two wierd ones (they're in smaller pots, too; think that might be a prob.) i expect to flower off 5 clones in a few days, keeping the other 5 for moms. i've got to clone sage's clones too... and who knows? maybe this spring, a bird will come by, accidently eat a bud whilst trying to catch a bug, then the bird migrates to alaska, craps on your car; then you see these perdy little seeds in the crap...hose off the car, scattering the seeds into the lawn...two months later you'll have the nicest yard with prettiest grass, lol...
going to cross sage with a bb male, if the males ever put out!!!
well, be back soon, gotta go do some chores...

ps. i LOVE peanuts, babe! you ought to do christmas at my place some time... I threw four into flower about a week ago and they are already starting to form little peanut size buds so I am happy about that.

ok, i know that you can wire regular lights in series, so that one plug can run many lights...
can you wire 2 or more bulbs to a ballast?

Little Princess the bird has flown the coop today. This will help you figure it out www.onlinepot.org/grow/wiringlights.htm.
This particular thinggy has been set up to use both HPS and MH, meaning it is an MH ballast but with an igniter which is used on HPS bulbs. I would break everything down and then rewire it from the link above without the igniter because it can cause MH bulbs to run shorter lives. Also, it is wired for 220 volt right now and you will want to wire it for 120 if you are going to put a normal plug on it. It had some super ghetto socket on it so I threw a brand new one I had laying around in with it.

what is the best way and method to refridgerate/store clones for an all at once sog?
BlueBear
11-08-2006, 07:35 AM
Not a problem little lady. It is a pleasure to do you a good turn. I will be waiting for a song.
Well about storing clones, as far as I can tell, cutting your clones at a longer point than you will intend to plant them is where you start, and then place them in a bowl of water like you would normaly do, then once the clones are all taken then stor them in a zip lock bag with a small amount of water touching the cut off point of the clones and put in the veg dror. Haven't done it my self, but this is the method that I have read about.
I have herd of people storing them up to 7 weeks. You may want to try a few at first and see how they do,, and let me know.

but they last forever.. and if you can switch them from 2 inch cubes to 4 inch cubes after 4-8 weeks.. they will love you for IT!!

You are too funny Brook and KP, LOL. 8 heads, sounds like an ancient mythological plant. I think it will be there around Mon or Tue. Remember I said that it is kind of ghetto, at least the person I got it from had it wired up so, but at the same time these things are rather bullet proof to a certain degree. I just don't want you changing your set up around only to find out that this thing wont turn over. Doubt that will be the case, but never the less, I would feel like SH-- if I put you in that predicament. So with that said, just play your hand accordingly.
Love you though, want to help out, and I hope that this does.

lol bear, we'll call this one the blueberry hydra! then we'll do a hydro gro and have hydra hydro:)
about the thingy... no worries on the ghettoism...i'm like mc'guiver's daughter:) i'll rig up n e thing:thumbsup: i'm all set to completly rewire if necessary. and it'll prob be necessary, bc of the distance from where the bulb will be and where the ballast will be. seriously thinking about double wiring. switch the ballast over to another room, and do two flowerboxes at one time (lights go off in one, they come on in the other:))
and if it doesnt' work when i fire it up, i'll take it apart and MAKE it work lol.
it's an mh ballast right? so bc it has an ignitor, you can use hps? just checking. trying to see if i need n e parts... let me know what you think about the alternating room relay...
to brooke, sorry hon, don't have a cam... if i did, i'd probably be famous.:) but, it looks like two of the heads aren't going to make it...:( they are sickly burnt looking, like they died and were reincarnated or something...) so we are down to a six headed monster.
i've got a dying clone... one looks like it deff won't make it. one of the newest ones. no biggie, the other 5 are doing great!
well, just thought id drop a line:)
love, kp:p
BlueBear
11-11-2006, 05:05 AM
Yep, it is a MH ballast with a HPS igniter on it, but your MH bulb will lose some hours working with the igniter. Also, that link I posted on how to wire your ballast has instructions on a double room relay I believe. These things can get pretty hot, I am about to put a pan under the 400w because I have it going 24-7 right now and the thing is extremely hot to the touch.
Brook if you stop in here, miss you.

not trying to sound like a know it all, ladies, but wouldn't it be easier and probably cheaper to buy an HPS ballast and put a switch on the ignitor so you can put MH bulbs in it? just my .02 :)

if you get an MH ballast, it doesn't have an ignitor so you have to get the HPS ignitor and work it into the wiring and still switch it so it doesn't come on when you have a MH bulb in. that's what i've gathered from this forum.

Well, I think that if you consult your Chrystal ball and lode up the old pipe and recruit your critical faculties and consult your oldest publication of The adventures of Sherlock Holmes you will come to the conclusion that the parties in question have very similar characteristics that can come to only one conclusion. If the Rooten thread is unraveled in the latter days of its major activity and the start of this thread is examined with a focus on dates comments and so on, you will find some striking facts, but I am not one to let the cat out of the bag.

please hurry!!!

11-14-2006, 03:18 AM
I would give it a few days to put in the flower box and then when you do, put it down wind from the others. I would wait about 24 hours to mist. I am not sure how pollen takes to plants in veg. Have you thought about pollinating one of the buds on the other plants? If so, take some pollen and brush it on a bud that has a couple weeks or more left then put suran rap around it for about 48 hours, again if you do this as well, place that side of the plant down wind.
Hope this helps some.

ok, i know you told me bear, but how long can you store pollen in the freezer? i may experiment with this clone, to keep the rest safe, then later take a few of my new hybrids, a few originals, and a few bb's and build a seed box. do you know how a plant reacts to being switched from a reversed light cycle to normal? should i go 24 hours dark or light, common sense says dark.
how long is pollen viable in open air? i know you have to freez it to store it.
collecting lots of pollen though...
love, brooke
BlueBear
11-14-2006, 08:22 AM
I believe it can be stored up to a year, if not longer. I think that just sitting out, hmm at least a week I expect. Remember when storing, keep it dry.
As far as the light cycle, what cycle are they on now? If you mean from flower to veg, they will get stressed and take a good minute to get back into the veg cycle, but I am not sure if that is what you are asking.
So is that bird going to be allright?

Hey Fog, not Frog IMO. Hey little lady, glad all is going allright. Wonder if I will get any bluebarry beans for Christmas???
Well glad you got your early present. On my end everything is doing all right. Had the new room going for about a week, only have about 12 in there so I only have 1K going will put in the other in in about 2 weeks. Temps are fine, as a matter of fact I have no out take and need a heater with the light out, but I can get it up into the 80's when my active intake is off. If I have the intake on the temps drop down to the low 60's. I think the extra 1K will balance things out. Think I will fill the CO2 tank tomorrow.
Also I am thinking about getting a 3x3 ebb and flow table for future use. A 3x3 would go good under that light you have. I just read a thred over at IC mag about a fellow who pulled almost a pound with 400w and CO2, but he has some skills to break the 1 G per watt thinggy. He also pulled 3.5 LB with a 1K on a light mover, must be nice.
Well adieu for now.

Thanks for the love. To do the one branch, or one particular area, brush the polin on the desired area and then cover with plastic rap for about 24 hours then like GK said you could then mist that part and dry it. He said with a blow dryer, just blow away from the other sights just in case. That should work.

my darling bear... the bird works wonderfully:) getting a little hot in the box, but i'm getting another fan tonite... wow, i stayed up almost all night, just watching. then i fell asleep in my rocker, right in front of them (so embarassing~blushes~) so i was a co2 generator for a few hours...
the hps lights about 2/3 of the box, about half of it well, so i left the cfl's in there, but i got an idea last night...
ok, a ballast makes the power in the form the bulb needs, so, you therefore have a supply going to the bulb. this supply shoulb be the same, wether you have one bulb on the ballast or two...
i've never heard of anyone trying, but i'd like to, if you guys approve... maybe we can learn to save some $$ by having more than one lamp to a ballast...
and yes, the cfl's do rival the hps, but i soooo love the hps colour;)

Oh yeh on the clones, with the winter setting humitity can really change in some places. Another thing is do you smoke tabacco and if so do you around your plants?

ne opinions on a bubble cloner, how to make one, etc?

Hey little lady, hugs,,,...
The smoking may be a problem. MJ plants can contract the Mosaic tobacco virus fairly easy, you will know by a bending of the leaves kind of like they are trying to turn a little bit inside out. Doesn't stop them from producing, but does stress them. Smoking in general around your plants is not good. The smoke clogs the stamodda, bad spelling, the Stamodda are like the plants lungs on the leaves that allow O2 and CO2 to be absorbed and exhaled by the plant along with the dissipation and retention of needed and un needed bi products from water and nutes.
Well that is the lesson for today I will check in later.

That is a whick cloner and they do work, but I know more people use the bubble cloners or the aero cloners. I think that there are a few DIY's on here on how to make one, but never the less I will explain.
You get a Tupperware that is about 10x10 and put about 10 to 20 1 inch holes in the lid for 1 inch net pots to go in which your RW cubes and clay pellets would sit in. You drill a small hole in the side for a air tube to be able to fit in. You get a $10.00 air pump from Wally World and a $1.75 air stone or two and then just drop the air stones in and run the air lines into the little air pump and plug in, after you fill with water. I think you could build the whole thing for about $25 give or take probably less. Once everything is going the air stones will make small oxygenated bubbles that splash the bottom of your pellets and RW cubes and give them small amounts of aerated water and it is a quick process from everything that I have read. I need to use mine here shortly because I am trying to find a lower maintenance way of cloning. With the bubbler, you should be able to go without the dome or misting. Without misting clones will root quicker because they do not need to feed off the mist from their leaves so they strike out roots quicker.
Hope this helps explain it.

No I haven't herd of it, but I use something a little simular and it works wonders. Perhaps try it on a few and see how they do. With those kind of products you should see a noticeable change in a few days IMO if they are good.
With the one I use "Messenger" I do a treetment and the next day they look like I shot them up with some royds.

bear, i am ecstatic!!!!
first let me say i will experiment with this product as i have info stating the usefulness for my purpose.
next, sage is getting choped down soon, like 2 or 3 days. she realy, REALY stinks. i'm upstairs, she's downstairs, and i smell her like i've got resin on my hands!! can't wait. also, she hermied on one bud site so gess what? i got sage seeds!!!! about 10 of em:)
got a sage2 pollenated by bb. pollen took, hairs prove this:) hybrid:D
bb's are loving the hps. and they thank you everynite, bear:p
now, the REAL news!!!!
my brother and i went to a fleamarket today to kill some time and get out of the house. (i got a new pet peacock!!:)) whilst walking through the ghetto section (the back side where they put all the drunks) i came across some HUGE HONKIN LIGHTS!!!! further inspection showed them to be 400w mh lights, like the kind lowe's uses (not the ones they sell) after speaking with the drunk guy who had the table, i found that we had a few common interests:) he let me have 2 of these (fixture and all(fix HAD to go; to darn big to fit in my room!!)) for 40$!!!!
i ripped everything apart and set it up as a remote mh (i have no ignitors and can't get any until tomorrow) and i'm about to put a temporary plug on them to see if they work. the components look new, so i'm not worried. the guy gave me a deal, bc he knows whats up, that's why he's got them in the first place; he just switched to 1000w.
you must have been watching over me, you angel of a bear, or bear of an angel, lol. i cannot believe the luck! i'm still waiting to wake up!
~hypotheticle question~
can you use one ignitor for 3 ballasts? i don't think you can, but if you could, i'd be in biz!!
i gess you'll either be happy for me, or upset for the favor you did for me. i hope it is the first; i love the fact that you went out of your way for me. i'll be forever in your debt, and forever lovingly grateful!;)
thanx again and again, bear, love you loads, babe!!!

Oh, you choke the Bear up little. I am indeed happy for you. About the igniter I do not know off hand. I just want you to be very careful with all of the electric stuff, believe this, I would be a really unhappy Bear if something happend.
Glad to her you got some Beans from Sage. CaliJ not a problem, hope I can help out more, everyone around here helps me with stuff, they just probably don't know it. Alot of times I just mope around and take naps on peoples threads to snuze and read for a while with a bowl of honey to stick a fatty in untill it dries.
I had a little prob, I guess my CO2 dispersment was off and I went threw a hole tank in about 4 days instead of 6 to 8 weeks. Luckly I didn't leave the pup in there. The Lord is offly kind to this bear and his foolish ways.

lowes does not have ignitors:( now i have to figure that one out.) these ballasts are identicle to the first one; only difference is the ignitor. where can i get the ignitors?

Funny thing(not really) I just picked up my first bottle of co2 and emptied it in 3 days myself. I am tripping out a bit. I must have some serious leaks in my room. I am off to investigate.

i would love to run co2, but i don't know how or where... any tips?
sage is now under total dark. she's been under for 28 hours now. how long do you recomend leaving her until harvest? my dry box is complete (cedar, 4 racks, 8 hanging wires, two cpu fans for a passive intake) just waiting on your suggestions. i have put a male bb clone with a female sage clone, going to put two bb females in with them tomorrow, or whenever i cut sage. (i'll be able to use her bathroom, geez she's big!!:))
cj, i haven't been able to make it to the post... i leave b4 they open and get home after they close:( seems to be the same with the electrical supply store too. soon as i can, sweetie, you'll be getting a new novel to read (might be a little dusty, lol:D)

OK Lady and Gent. Co2 CJ, well the right way, not the ghetto way that I am subject to at this point is to run your CO2 with a controller that measures the CO2 of your room and turns it off at the appointed level. With the levels there are two schools of thought, one school says to run the CO2 at 1500 PPM adding your household PPM which is approx 300 in most house holds so that means that your controller would be set at 1200 PPM and run this in approx 3 hour intervals. The other school that seems to make more since to me is to run the PPM of your CO2 at the same PPM of your nutes and this is the reason why, the CO2 kicks your plants into optimal production and being such it demands more manufacturing of needed nutes and other growth related synthesis to flourish under the CO2 treatment and as you match the PPM's you are meeting the demand of the PPM level of the CO2 with the PPM of your nutes to keep the demand and production in balance. Some feel that having a greater CO2 puts a bigger demand on the plant that it can't handle as well. SO those are the two main schools of thought. Some controllers have light sensors that will shut off any CO2 dispersment off once the lights are out because plants only take in CO2 during photo synthesis and releases it during dark cycle while taking in O2. Also temps should be at least 85D for the CO2 to really be able to be absorbed and broken down by the plant, and they say that 95D is optimal. There is a argument about the light/photo synthesis needed from a lumen output for the plants to be able to process the CO2 and one thing I know for sure at this point is that anything under a 400w will not create the kind of photo synthesis in the plant that will allow for a efficient break down and an absorbssion of the CO2 and some will even argue that it is only 600w and greater that can really create the needed lumens for this process.
KP, on the drying process, it is really going to depend on the temps in your box on how long they should stay. For some reason you find them looking crispy don't worry too much, just place them in glass mason jars with the metal latch on the top and put the buds in there and what will happen is the moisture from the center parts of the bud will spread in a uniformed manor throughout the bud giving the whole bud a nice feel, ideally. Just watch them and know that just because the buds are dry on the outside they may still be full of moisture and that is why the jars help in the process. Once in the jars just check on them a few times a day and when you notice moisture filling the jar up some just open the top for a few until the moisture dissipates. Once you have dried and cured to your liking and there is no more moisture showing on the glass you can frees the buds if you wanted and there shouldn't be any negative affects to the THC.
Well that was a mouth full. I have been up since the we hours of the morning and you know how tired us bears get so I may have to go hibernate for a while. At this point I have been getting up at 4:00AM to turn on the heater in my grow room, but today I got a timer, hopefully this one works. The last one didn't work right and keped tripping my power strip with a 1K light on it because both the light and the heater couldn't be on at the same time.
Well Adieu Little Princess and Cali
PS. KP to find CO2 tanks and Co2 you can look in the phone book and you may have some luck, or call a local wellder and say your uncle is working on his race care, or farm equipment and you are trying to get a tank for his wellding tools and they may be able to direct you. At some places you go in and start an account and they give you a tank for about $30 and you take it back when doen and they trade you out another. SOme places require you to have good credit because the tanks can run about $300, luckly I got mine for about $40, they had two and foolesh me didn't get it.

hi guys, umm, rrrrrr...
i have a confession to make here first... i admittedly tried a sample of sage the other day... well...
i had a little left over, and had put it in a box to dry... and forgot about it until just a few minutes ago.
this is taking me quite a while to write, as i am a perfectionist and don't like to make typo's... which i'm doing on every word just about...
ok, to the point...oh yeah... sage...
so i put this bit in a bubbler, and now... well, ummm...
ok, back to the subject.
cj, i got the skills from a bear in blue.

and i read A LOT!!! so...;)
check your mail tonite sweetie, don't know when i'll get around to it but it will be there b4 the morn
darling bear, in gleaming blue armour...
thanx for the co2 lesson, i'll deffinitely look into it.
but i think you may have misunderstood my harvest question...
sage is still in the pot, i have flushed every other day for 10 days prior. now the soil is completely dry, and i didn't turn the lights on this morn. she is downstairs in her flower room.
i have taken your advice on leaving her in total dark before cutting. i just don't remember how long, or which thread your words were on.
i did a search but hadn't found it by the time i left. i'll look again, as i have more time, but if you stop by, i'd love to be saved as i'm REALY not too capable right now. so far, it's taken 24 minutes to write this, and still counting:)
well, hope to hear from you soon;)

I am sorry, well 48 to 72 hours should do you. Some strains really start to pack on the christels during that period wile some don't seem to show a visual difference. There is a process with the chlorophyll and so onn that kicks in during this time and manufactures the last bits of the goody stuff to make it simple. Remember when lights are out the plant is kind of working double time, that is a whole other lesson though.
Well thanks you darling damsel without stress.

ok, here's an out of the blue...
i found some raggedy dust (eeewwwww) but in desparation i took this bowl full of pot powder and took one of the previously infested and damaged buds from the isolation paper(<hahalol) were they were kept sepparated from the clean harvest.
chopped it up int finely diced gummy weed (realy moist) and put this in a little box with the powder(mix it up so it'll burn as the bud was not dry at all), and loaded the bubbler...
now, let me say this; the dustrefer was dirt. nasty stuff, wouldn't loade a first timer.
first hit was sorta acrid, chlorophyllic. but the aroma was AMAZING! read a description of the strain sage... WOW!!! just like that! i think i hit the nail on the head:)
so, bowl and a half later, i'm thinking about ALLLL kinds of stuff... mind wandering everywhere. smoooooth body stone and spacey cerebral. very relaxing; i could go to sleep if i wanted to, but since i don't i notice that it has "uppity" characteristics as well.
this is by far the best i've had this year. i'm even IMPRESSED! here's a thank you to all of my mentors ~hugkiss~ i am totally loving it:D
which brings me to a discussion idea....(before i load another bowl, and go to bed...)
~hypotheticle oppinion~ (note: anything stated by princess both prior, and upcoming are fictional and completly hypotheticle; last notice)
i was thinking about how the powder accentuated the greenbub and helped it burn and i drifted to another train of thought...
i've smoke good bud; i've smoked REALY good bud; i've smoked OUSTANDING bud; i've had some of THE BEST bud in the world; and i've even had alien weed (completly OUT OF THIS WORLD)
but some of my BEST overall and well rounded highs have come from blends of two or more different kinds of bud.
has n e one else tried this? i personally think that blends are more balanced and mellow. where you would normally get the effects of wone strain, the other would certainly have different characteristics.
the end result is a stone that is overwhelming to all of the senses.
i just wish i could find more strains:(
well, time to burn more sagedirt haha:D hey, that's a blend too:)
