when one uses CFLs in a stealth box with LST, should they prune as well or is tying the plants down enough to make them bush out?
Thanks!:rasta:

Avoid pruning at all costs.. this does nothing good for the plant as you're simply cutting off parts that it needs.
Tuck leaves down and LST , but don't prune. Avoid it at all costs.

I agree, avoid pruning, but if you have a healthy plant, and limited space then you might want to carefully consider how you are going to train the plant.

you dont have to do either. LSTing if done right can increase yeild. but the plant will produce if you do nothing

increasing yield in a small space is the whole point

There is such a thing as pruning for yield. Same principle as topping, splits the stems and creates more bud sites. The genetically determined strain-dependent maximum is usually around 32. Some strains cannot achieve their full potential without it. The downside: it slows growth down a fair bit.
Unless you have two or more months of time available to veg AND you need/want short extremely bushy plants, it's probably not worth it pruning for yield. I sometimes do it though, simply because my flowering cab is usually occupied for 10-ish weeks at a time by other plants anyway, so I have lots of time for veg, and my veg boxes are very short, so stunting their growth (in return for many more bud sites) is a reasonable tradeoff for me. I've always been happy with the results of pruning for yield, personally. Your mileage may vary, of course.
There are a few pages about pruning for yield in The Cannabis Grow Bible, which I have basically summarized in the above paragraphs. The book has some pictures, but I'm too lazy to scan them in. Heh.

I cut the very top node of the plant till I get 4 branches I then tie those to the side spread them out real good all the side shoots become main shoots in about a day or so now I have say 10 tops I then cut the top node on all those in a few days I have 20-30 tops I veg for another week to 10 days and flip them.

i'm w/ u.g.u on this one .
i'm mean to my girls and they love me for it . but then again i'm not using c.f.l s and i'm not all cramped up in a tiny space . i top , pinch , and tie em down and can average 14-17 oz. per hoe in waterfarms . this is w/ 6-8 weeks veg. time .
think big if at all possible . the average cfl grow prob. couldnt produce enuf per grow to tide me over for a week.
peace

i really put some thought into doing that too but i wanted to keep it more small scale. How are the 50gallons working out? how many bulbs/watts are in it?

its working out alright, to get them to stack right he had to cut the center of the lid out and put it on the bottom tub. there are 8 x 23watts and 2 x 43 watts.
total of:
268w 18000Lumens, all 2700k spectrum. its only been 2-3 days since he finished it but so far everything looks great!

Hope you can get some pics of your friend's cab! Mine is really half-assed compared to what we could've done. It's not our main flowering area, though.
Regarding the LST & pruning. I do both also. I have one plant (#11a) That I'm keeping very low and she's getting wider. Just topping and do some LST. I haven't sent one to flower but that's pretty much it, I suppose. :D
G'Luck.

nice! i'd really like to post some pics of my friends box so i could get better advice from all you experts but im all sketched out by the authorities and hes more paranoid than i! but we'll just have to see, first we'd need a camera to take the pictures. ah the dilema of a poor college stoner :)

by the way, does any1 have any good design or plan for putting to use 2x 4ft flouro and a double 4ft flouro strip to work in a veg box? i was thinking about maybe getting one of those big plastic trash bins and putting it sideways for a veg chamber. even the 50 gallon rubbermaid tubs are too small to fit a 4ftflouro.

Glorious, I have 3 bins going, two 22gal and one 18gal. I'm trying to get a perpetual harvest going. 1 veg/mother 2 flowering but we will see. :smokin:

awesome! what is the total wattage of your project, all 3 bins and fans etc when its all running at once? my friend is very excited about CFL due to the low energy consumption. also, can you show us how you made that carbon filteR? cheers !:pimp:

Let's see...23w X 6= 138 X 3 = 414watts...lol
I dont know about fans i got 3 regular fan for circulation and 3 outtake computer fans and 1 inline ductfan for outtake.
As for the Carbon Filter....I made it from a how-to on overgrow....I will make a how to in a little while for you....I just have to take the whole thing about and put it back together. Does work well though and looks like professional ones....I've seen one's exactly like mine i built on ebay selling for cash money!
Ill let you know how the How-to goes....I'm a bum right now so it may get done quickly or very slowly:thumbsup:
