View Full Version : What would Lennon think about the world today?

hey all,

I was just listening to John Lennon's Imagine song. I never cared much for the bubblu pop sound of the Beatles, but Lennon on his own wrote some really beautiful songs.

After hearing that song, what do you think Lennon would think about the state of war in Iraq and Afghanistan?

Makes me wonder. He felt so strongly about war then, and the war now is televised and visual. Men getting decapitated on video, getting gunned down, shot in the head, blindfolded.....I wrote a song:

While you sit and manipulate, worry about your own pathetic, boligerant life
Cold steel. Knife in hand. End the life that had once helped
Warmth red. Blindfolded, from enemies, cannot see your fate coming
Whiteworld, muffled sound. I cannot hear or cannot feel anymore

Nothing matters, it's done
We're marching to the gates, one by one
Hellfire as I feel the heat
And the darkness comes to take me home

This new world is a blistering fuck
Watching my nemesis hold up their hate
Red spotted painting on the rust eaten floor
This is how it ends, this is what I choose to die for

Every word I wrote exactly how it came to mind last night. You figure out what it means. ;)

Wow, unstimulating conversations today, despite the few.

I'll come back later after some bong rips and shredding guitar. :smokin:

thats good poetry, i never knew you wrote. ;)
I doubt John Lennon would have been very happy to have lived in the 21st century. Look how much the world changed since the 60's.
I probably think he's turning in his grave, or at least happy to be dead. Who the fuck wants to live in a world like today? I certainly would be much happier living in the 60's. I was born in the wrong century >:(

Thanks, but I never write. I write my own music, in my head, not on paper, all the time on guitar, but I was feeling extra disgusted after watching the news, so I dabbled some words on paper for a first in a long time. Everyday there is always some about US soldier blown up here, Canadian killed here, it's silly.

I'd like to live in a different century myself as well, yes century<----not a typo. :D I'd like to live in the Knight ages or something with Napolean and reign terror. :p

i doubt the 60s were any better than now. we just have an idealized view of them. but there were messed bp things going on then, just like now. politicians were still crooks and there were still horrible people around. i don't think there is any difference between then and now, in that respect at least. and while there still is racism today, would like to think it is not as bad as it was 40 some years ago, that goes for all civil rights. anyways, just my 2c.

I think John Lennon would still be as he was then if he was around today. I think if Lennon was around today, things may get ugly as far as media trying to make him look like some kind of psycho so that he wouldn't have too many followers. I think "someone" would try to take him down and ruin his career, reputation, etc. and drive him insane...although he wasn't exactly sane...

Thats true, but they did have good music at least. Going back in time would all be worth it just to see The Beatles. :)

I personally woul dhave loved to seen a Led Zeppelin show back in the 70's. See Cream in the 60s along with The Doors. That'd be some sweet shit.

Am I the only one finds Oko extremely annoying when she "sings"? :p

who knows
if i were him id be astonished, i mean..where did things take a turn for the worse?
i mean its not like things were always perfect until now..but back then it seems like people had hope, that it was cool to care, and protesting war wouldnt get you ridiculed, i mean thats jsut fuckign ridiculous! and i can only imagine the sense of being a part of that time

i was born in the wrong decade too :P

I think if John woke up and crawled out of his coffin, within an hour, he would return to it.
