Hehehee....
Yes, yes and YES.
Dodgy wiring...
Low-quality equipent...
Stupidity of builder...
Complete and utter lack of reading the instructions...
Metallic dryer ducts that carry electricity over many feet...
Crap... Mylar carries electricity!
"Assuming" something is safe...

after setting up a new 8" Can Fan in our attic, we decided to turn the setup on for a test drive before getting out and leaving things. Somehow, the motor arc'ed to the ducting attached to the fan, creating a monstrous spark that toasted nearly a foot of ducting in one big WOOOOF! My roommate was nearly blown backwards and if it had stayed plugged in for another 5 seconds it would have sparked the insulation and burned the house down.
Yay for test drives! There was so much amperage going through the cord that I had to brace myself to pull the cord from the socket. It fried the cord, the fan, the ducting, and the outlet. Then it tripped the breaker.
Fun stuff.

No...have tried to keep everything safe and out of the way of water...but for a while, it was temporarily vulnerable and I recently spilled some water and some splashed ONto a powerstrip and some plugs. SO lucky nothing happened. Whew! Cleaned it up IMMEDIATELY...and since then, everything is safe as can be. All electric is elevated and out of the way.
SAFETY FIRST!!!
Be cool...and safe.

I got shocked once when I was younger... I was living with my parents at the time and had a Hash Plant in my closet.. well I left, spur of the moment, with some friends to California for three weeks.. and when I came home, I was shocked to see that my parents had taken care of my plant.. It was so huge, and had just started flowering too.. haha

Heh I accidentally shocked myself moving my ballast around. I figured it was fine since all the connections had wire nuts on them. Forgot about the capacitor... Ouch! Won't happen again

my setup has never done that to me, (mainly cuz its only a light) but i was washing the walls in my front room, (they get pretty yellow pretty quick lol) and the water from the cloth dripped down onto a plug socket, then, BAM!! I flew across the room and passed out lol, then my dad ran in, (he was washing the wall too) and brushed past the wet wall which by this time was basically a wall of electricity, and then BAM!!! he got shocked too, he didnt go flying like i did, but like me he was unconsious for about 3 secs, then we switched the power off and continued feeling shaken and worried lol - good fun! lots of laughter lol
