alright then....let me just say that i must suck at this cab buildin or somethin....you know how everybody says that a 150w hps isnt hot and its really easy to keep the cab cool....well not for me....

I have a cab built into my closet thats about 23" wide, 21" length, and 55" tall.....i have a 12v computer fan and i dont know how many cfms it has....and a holmes ionic purifier (also no idea on the cfms) that are both pulling air out of the cab at the top.....and theres holes on the bottom for negative pressure.....the temps are running in the 90's!! how is this possible......i mean the cab is completely air tight .....

is there any ideas out there on the cheap that could help me out to cool this little bugger......i heard about the stanley blower...is that any good?

Thanx

Well Chronic,

Considering that I don't use a cabinet, I can only make suggestions for you. You could try to air cool the lamp. You could add a bigger exhast fan. You could use a fan for active intact of fresh air. You could add a fan inside of the cabinet. You could use several of the ideas. Good luck.

Why you? Auh shucks, rule number one, heat will almost always be an issue in a cab. Well, I would think about trying out another PC fan for an active intake towards the bottem of your cab. What are the room temps?
I have a cab that is 29H 30W and 19D I have a 175 MH in it and it can get fairly warm in there, I have a 240 CFM bathroom fan from Lowes to pull hot air out, and another little fan in there to blow on the girls, and will soon put a small 90 CFM Dayton fan to bring in more fresh air. Those 90 CFM Dayton fart fans only cost about 30 bucks and are so nice to have around, I have 2 in my main cab for Active intake and also to help suck hot air out of my hood. Well, good luck

Well, your cab is 19 cubic feet, so I'd say the minimum fan you'd want to use would be at least 120CFM.

I have a cab thats 30x19x55 (22 cubic feet) and I have a 150HPS and a 70W MH in a hood. I use a 110CFM bathroom fan cut into the side of the cab, along with a 40 cfm thermostat controlled computer fan mounted in the actual light hood, that blows directly at the fartfan. Theres also a small moveable fan in there to blow directly on the girls. 2-4" Holes cut in the bottom and back of the cab to pull cooler air from the wall/ground area in a passive intake.

Temps are always dependent on intake/ambient room temps, but it never gets more than 8-10 degrees over ambient. This is a bad thing though when the ambient is 40 degrees (which is why I have a thermostat/speed control on the light fan)

Your best bet is to increase the exhausting of hot air - bigger exhaust fan or maybe your intake holes are too small? Or reduce the intake temperature somehow by moving the cab to a caooler location?

The cab is in a closet? Do you keep the closet door shut? Where is your intake air coming from? Where's your exhaust going to? The closet? You can intake from the same room you exhaust to (I do), but if you do then you have to keep that room temperature-controlled, else heat builds up, and if your intake is bringing in heated air...you will have probs. You should probably get the cab out of the closet either way, as that is probably contributing to heat buildup. Easy way to test that - just move the cab out of the closet to a cool room and run the light for four hours, then check the temps.

If that's not the problem, then you'll need to get a beefier fan. I'd think a 4" centrifugal fan (Eco Plus, Vortex, whatever) would be the best solution. You could try the fart fans and such too, they might work. And get a homemade or purchased cooltube for your light too. If you can't afford a centrifugal fan, then a squirrel cage fan is the next best option, followed by fart fans and axial fans or whatever you can scrounge up.

The good news is: dealing with heat inside a cabinet is the biggest problem you're likely to have. Once you solve this problem, things will get a lot rosier.

thanx guys.....i have a little opening in the roof of the closet that goes to the attic,,, im thinkin ill just exhaust it up there so the heat wont build up in the closet.......but theres no ac vents where the closet is so i cant use ac to cool it....im thinkin ill go with a couple of lasko task fans....they have 450cfm and are only $15 at lowes/walmart......and use one for a cooltube and one for exhausting the cab.....sound like a good idea?

Sounds like a possible solution. Let us know how it works out.
