Can you drill a hole in glass ?

I want to make my own bong , and I have a really nice piece of glassware i want to use , and then add my own bowl etc.

Can this be done ?

I practice drilled a Corona Beer bottle and it shattered just as i drilled through . :(

use a torch (pipe/cigar) lighter, and after holding it on the glass a LONG time, push what you are using as a stem through the glass.
if the seal is less than perfect use chewing gum.

sorry about that kid man, the only perfect way is with a certain type of drill for glass, other than that the glass will most likely shatter. I'd reccomend you go out and buy a Sobe. Sobe bottles are made with a small notch in the bottom of the side which is extremely thin glass and you can make a perfect hole there with a screwdriver every time. then you can use it as a waterfall bong and get completely blitzed off a little weed.

use a diamond bit, and KEEP WATER ON IT. also this is just a question but what are you trying to drill?? because if it's not pyrex theres a good chance it's a lead based glass.

Another tip is to put masking tape over the bit where you want to drill the hole, that'll stop the drill bit from slipping all over.

I did this today actually. I had a glass cream soda bottle and I drilled two holes, one for the stem and one for a carb. I haven't finished it yet though.

I used a no-name dremel copy kit that had diamond bits, and I didn't even put water on it when I was doing it. It turned out really nice. I had a couple of slips but nothing major.

I've used a torch lighter to heat up a spot on glass bottle enough to push a glass downtube though it. You need a good lighter, or i should say torch as no one in their right mind would smoke with it. If you can't do that, buy a glass cutting bit and use it in any drill. You can buy a MAP gas torch from most hardware stores, its not as hot as oxy-acetylene but close. Its really small and portable. That would work good for small projects.

Here is a kick ass video of a dude making a sweet piece out of a Corazon Tequila bottle. You can buy a glass drill bit at Home depot for about $12. I went to the head shop and bought a stem first to make sure I bought the proper size bit.

Make sure when drilling you keep the bottle still and use towels to reduce vibration. Also practice first on crap bottle with thick glass b4 you try to use a prime bottle.

using a a torch with map gas or propane will work to melt the glass. But I used to make bongs out of liqour bottles, I bought a bit designed for drilling in to glass at homedepot. It was like 13$, and yes keep water on the bit and where your drilling and it should work fine...

Lead glass is not in any way harmful and is really crystal not glass.. Some folk will believe anything.
Use a diamond tip drill.
Gently exert pressure on the glass and you should have no problems.

Use a diamond bit, you can get a whole set on ebay under $10. Use a dremel or a drill. Water will make it cut faster and cool the bit. If you use a dremel at a high speed with out water, you will melt the nickel plating, which is holding your diamonds in place. Then, you can throw that bit away.

Also you can use a carbide bit as long as it is not tempered glass. Bottles aren't usually tempered just pyrex, borosilicate...
I like the Diamonds, they don't care what you want to cut.

Use a water oil mix....water does not make for a smooth cut. Also I dont know if trying to drill extremely hot glass is a good idea, that would probably fry most bits. Im a mechanic and do allot of that stuff but never really tried drilling through real hot glass.

there ya go man, you can buy those at lowes or home depot or any kind of hardware store, like others have said, be sure to run water on it, i didnt do it the whole time, i just stopped every little bit and poured water on it to cool it down, drill slow your first time, speed can be what shatters it. ive used electrical tape to strengthen it before but its not really needed, when your break through go extra slow because thats when it breaks the easiest. when i get a camera ill take some pics (if i remember)

I've made plenty of bongs. We used a glass bit and filled it with water and rested it on a towel to slow the vibrations down. Keep water running over it and keep it filled with water makes things alot easier. We once used 5 MD 20/20 bottles and connected them and made a 5 chamber bong.

Finally got a camera so here are some pics of my first experience drilling through glass. Just remember take it slow at first, if you go too fast the glass will break. When you break through and are now jsut enlarging the hole to the size you want, go slower, this is the crucial point. pour water over it every now and then to keep it cool and remember to wet the bit as well.

i used a diamond tipped dremmel bit, just looked like a little ball with spikes, then took a steel drill bit to make the opening larger, remember though, to drill your hole at a slight angle so that your weed stays packed in your bowl! i made a pimp bong out of a goldschlagger bottle! still use it to this day..
