I've been reading and doing searches over the past couple of days because of my problems I'm having with the strain I'm currently cloning. Check my "Plants keep growing under 10 hour light" topic. So I sent off an international money order yesterday to Hemp Depot in hopes of getting something worth growing. So here's what I need. Being a clone guy I've never started anything from seed and would appreciate some detailed instructions. I grow hydro so I normally use rockwool cubes for starts and grow in a vermiculite/perlite mixture. So I need help with how to make the seeds work with the way I grow. Something like this is what I'm hoping you all can help me with. Day 1 soak seeds in a mixture of ? parts water and ? parts ? for 24 hours. Day 2 put seeds in rockwool cubes and cover hole with a little bit of rockwool and keep in covered domes under daylight fluorescents or day 2 place between X# of pieces of paper towel. Day ? - ? wait for seeds to pop. When seeds have popped just keep them in the rockwool cubes in the dome and let them work like clones or do I take off the dome covers? Or if using the paper towel method, do I take the popped seeds and place them into the rockwool cubes or is there a better way to go. I really am kind of pressed for time so I don't want the screw up these seeds. I think that once I get passed the where do I go from spouted seeds deal I'll be okay. When I get there I'm sure I'll be asking question about how to tell male from females but don't need to know now. The whole seeding plants and crossing breeds sounds like it could be fun. I've never had any male plants to give this a try. Thanks in advance for any help that will be given. +

What I do to germinate seeds is put them into a cup with distilled water .... I put them on my flower level because it's warm there and cover them so no light gets in. In 24-48 hours they sprout. I use a spoon to carefully get the seed and place it in soil .... in your case rockwool.

I don't add anything .... if the seeds are good they usually sprout within two days, but for some that take longer I change the water every two days.

GrowRebel,
Thanks for your answer!
After the seed sprout do you put any kind of dome over them or do you just let them do what they're gonna do? Do you keep them under 24 hour fluorescent light or what?

Once they sprout ... I put them in soil and I spray the top lightly with water ... sometimes rain water .... I don't cover them at all I just keep a check on them and keep the top moist .... not wet. I put them under an 18/6 hour flourescent light so they can stay warm.

Once they pop their little head up I put them a couple of inches away from the light and let them do their thing .... I keep an eye on the soil ... keeping it moist ... not wet ... this is a delicate time .... too much or too little water can kill the little baby.

I have about a 95% sucess rate when germinating.

Thanks again GrowRebel! I just ordered some more seeds today so even if I screw a few up I'm sure I'll get enough to make it work. I just talked with a friend earlier today that I haven't seen for a few years. He's hooking me up with some starts from a strain I gave him over 5 years ago. It's still growing strong. It's a great deal because I'll be back in business much quicker this way. The strains I've ordered are much higher yielding so I can't wait to give this germinating and starting from scratch thing a try.

I didnt try this, but i think if you put some wrap over the top of thecontainer it keeps it humid and helps heat the soil, making the spout come quicker.

Humidity domes are regularly used, i have one, dont know for sure if it helps a lot but seedlings need a high humidity level to absorb moisture through the leaves. It would definetely not hurt to have some sort of humidity dome. They are usually pretty cheap 10-15 bucks, and if you really want to kickstart your plants get a heating pad for under the humidity dome. Growing roots love a little warmth! Good growing! Peace
