i need some advise for my closet weed

i bought some seeds and planted em 2 weeks ago in some seedling soil. and i have my closet all wraped with tin foil. and i have a 500 watt work lite i bought from a construction store hangin about 3 feet from the pots. its all i could get my hands on for now. i have a timer set for about 19 hours on and 5 hours off. and i have a fan already to go but i have not turned it on yet. it has been 2 weeks and nothin has sprouted yet. i am in desperite need of advise what am i doin wrong? this is the first time i ever tried this and i am so excited about smokin my own homegrown weed. i really hope somone can help me. thanks
P.S i planted 12 seeds - 3 white widow, 3 big bud, 3 purple power and 3 northern lights.

im not an expert, but i can try to help with the advice people have given me..

first off, did u germinate them? if so what method did you use? sometimes it helps if u put wrap over the pot to creat humidity and heat, (the lights have nothing to do with the seeds until they actually reach the surface where they can get to the light, its the heat that brings them up.)(im not positive on this but im pretty sure thats how itworks.)

The soil needs to be kept moist and if the light heats up the soil too much the seeds will get cooked.

how deep did you plant 'em? The seeds only need to be about 1cm deep. Some people leave them overnight in water first to soften up the shells. If you planted deeper, try carefully scraping some soil back. I personally germinate them with the wet towel method and then pop them in dirt when I see the root first pops out - usually takes 1-3 days.

What are the temps? Ideally for germinating you want between 24-28 C.

What's the soil like? You need to have a nice light airy mix. adding peralite can help. never pack soil down, keep it nice and loose. If it's too packed there won't bee any air for the root when it emerges and it will die.

How wet is the soil? You really only need it to be moderatley damp, not wet. if it's too wet, again there won't be any air for the root and it will rot as soon as it emerges. you can spray the soil with a mister or keep it covered with clear plastic, but once they pop up remove it and let the top soil dry a little before watering - the root will be 2-3 inches long by the time they sprout so it won't die of thirst.

I'd say that 2 weeks is more than long enough. would suggest you dig one up and take a look. it may well have sprouted then died. :(

well i water about 1 time a day with good water but by the time its the next day the dirt is completly dry. the dirt is not packed down at all. and i didnt plant them super deep at all either. the place i bought them from said to let them soak over night then plant them so that is what i did. the only thing that is possible is that the soil might be too dry so i am gonna dig 1 up and see what happened and i will post what i find.

k i checked 1 pot and i found nothing so im guessing the seed was there somewhere and i never saw it but either way it did nothing. so im goin to a city near me in the next 2 days and i need to know exactly the light i need for seeding and wich to get for flowering cause i broke my closet down into 2 sections its a good cized city so wich store would be a good 1 to go to? that any of u have already been and gotten stuff from. im gonna re plant 12 more in a few days so could some one tell me a good way to germanate. and is there anything else i should have for the first part of my growing my own smoke mission? bye the way thanks for the replies any help or advise is greatly apreciated because all we all really wanna do is get stoned. and growing the weed that u smoke is just the coolest idea anyone ever came up with.

I don't kow about brands in Canada but make sure your soil is a loam based seedling/potting soil - it shouldn't dry out every day unless you have really high temps. Add 25% pearlite as well.

Get a couple of CFLs, these are cheap and readily available and will provide enough light for the first couple weeks growing. Make sure they are 'cool' for vegging. There are so many choices to make with lights it's worth reading up on. I myself use 200w CFLs (envirolite).

Germinate your next seeds before planting them up - put a paper towle in a tupperware box, wet it well and place your seeds on top, put the lid on box and place in a warm spot, check every 12 hours, when the root first appears place on your damp soil, and lighlty cover with a sprinkle of more soil and cover the pot with a baggy until the shoot appears.
