hello all well i thought i would show you all my new grow space
well it all started off with a 600w hps and ballast that i aquired from my m8 swizzy a few months ago
i spent about £100 today getting bits and bobs for my setup
because of the heat issue associated with the 600hps i got a new hood and a proper extractor fan, i got thermal insulated duckting for less noice and i lined the walls with that black and white polythene sheeting and to put it all together it took me and my m8 about 4 hours lol this is a big step up from the 2 plants that im used to doing in my bedroom closet to about 8 in the loft he he he cant wait till harvest time
i still need to finish this lil job i just need more money to do it lol
ill upload pics and any thoughts or improvements will be grately apreiciated
ill get some more decent pictures of it tomoz
cheers all :)

Looks good mate, are you using the HPS for the Vegging stage ? I dont know alot but you will be better with a MH or cool white CFL for veg, the go 12/12 with the HPS.

Hey buster thats gonna be a cool grow room ;)
What's left to do? Are you gonna vent outta the eaves or somewhere else?
One concern i'd have is the insulation to the roof, are you gonna put some up? Where i am theres police helicopters around at least a couple of nights a week and i'd be worried they could see a hot roof or being the only house in the street without snow on the roof in winter. Whats everyone elses thoughts on this?
Peace :rasta:

10-17-2006, 07:39 PM
well i still need to get another fan , a peice of glass to seal the hood properly and i need to sort out the floor get trays for all the pots to stop the water flowing all over the floor i still need to get the back wall lined properly
and as you say get the roof insulated if the fans do there job at pulling the heat away from the light then ill leave the insulation what ya think
cheers all :)

Better safe than sorry as far as the insulation goes I'd reckon. In Ireland, I'd proabably leave it as I think the cops here have 2 helicopters lol but if I was UK resident, I'd probably insulate. It'll save you on heating bills too so it's a win-win situation.

10-17-2006, 11:58 PM
I'm not sure buster, maybe i'm a bit too paranoid but i'd insulate. However good your fan is for good growing conditions you'll want your temps around 75-80F and thats gonna be hotter than most lofts. I'd also think about cooling your exhaust before it goes outside i've heard on infra red it shows up like a waterfall. But i don't know if all police copters have infra red, or maybe you dont get copters where you are?

Hey, buster, that's a nice looking soil set up you've got there.
One thing though, your plants look like they have a Phosphorus deficiency. I'm given to understand that it's a common occurance during flowering. If you don't take care of that your buds aren't going to develope properly.
Phosphorus is a component of certain enzymes and proteins, adenosine triphosphate (ATP), ribonucleic acids (RNA), deoxyribonucleic acids (DNA) and phytin. ATP is involved in various energy transfer reactions, and RNA and DNA are components of genetic information.
Phosphorus (P) deficiency
Figure 11 is severe phosphorus (P) deficiency during flowering. Fan leaves are dark green or red/purple, and may turn yellow. Leaves may curl under, go brown and die. Small-formed buds are another main symptom.
Phosphorus deficiencies exhibit slow growing, weak and stunted plants with dark green or purple pigmentation in older leaves and stems.
Some deficiency during flowering is normal, but too much shouldn't be tolerated. Red petioles and stems are a normal, genetic characteristic for many varieties, plus it can also be a co-symptom of N, K, and Mg-deficiencies, so red stems are not a foolproof sign of P-deficiency. Too much P can lead to iron deficiency.
Purpling: accumulation of anthocyanin pigments; causes an overall dark green color with a purple, red, or blue tint, and is the common sign of phosphate deficiency.
Looks tip top my man!
Loving it!
Just watch out for those flying pigs. rofl.
good luck man, i know you wont need it.
Got me grow going again just today, all 10 seeds germinated, and its my own strain :D:D

not to be anal or anything but get a nice carpet or something ahah. make it alittle more comfy up there. also u dont want fiberglass from ur insulation floating about. but a capet will also help you with the floor boards, loosing shit inthe cracks. will make things look alot better to. nice setup tho

Hey Buster
Looks good,I dont know if in the UK you can get FOAM INSULATION BROAD,
But here it comes in two thickest 12.7mm and 19.05mm here.It has a sivler foil on one side and a dull sivler foil on the other side.Great stuff you can cut it with a knife to the size you need. The sheet come in 1.21m x 2.43m and over here it around $8.00 to $12.00 a sheet.I lined my closet with it , walls&cealing too, and cut in a aircondition vent in the cealing. It drop the temps. down some too.Use foil tape to seam the broad together. It also stops light too.Great stuff to work with.Your garden looks great, keep us posted.

hello all i thought ill do an update as it has been a while lol
well JackdaWack i took ya advice with the carpet thing and covered the floor and as you say it feels a lot more comfy up there now,
well the temps up there werent looking too bright at all you could feel the cold as soon as you opened the loft hatch, so i tryed to seel the grow space a little bit by putting carpet on the floor and putting carpet on the back brick wall where there was a bit of a draft coming thru,
i slapped curtains up in there also to contain the grow space so hopefully this lil improvement helps to keep the heat in and around my plants
ill let ya know if it works or not
ill upload a few pics and any more advice will be muchly apreciated thanks guys and girls !!!!
cheers all :)

Sandman, the nutes you use for VEGGING should be high in N (the first number... say, 10-5-5 or 15-10-10) and the nutes you use for FLOWERING should be high in P, the second number. As long as the numbers are higher than the rest then you should be fine, and always start off on a quarter strength of what it says on the packet. Only start using nutes after 4 weeks too, that way all the nutes in the soil will have been used up.
If you cant get your hands on any nutes, then a good source of them is from soil. Just grab a healthy handful of soil, whack it in a pair of CLEAN tights and then sit that in 4 gallons of water. Leave it somewhere at 16c for a week, and voila - water with nutrients in! Always try it out on one plant first though incase you nute burn it or you havent used enough soil. With a bit of practice youll get it right, but those measurements have always worked for me and my lows :)

hello all well i thought id do an update
the last week i have noticed lil green spiders on my plants i think they came from the soil anyway i was looking closely other day and noticed that they were building webs on the plants and i remember seeing on here that spidermite do that
so i took precautions and got some pesticide that was usable on plants yeilding fruit and can be used as close as one day befour harvest
the solution only cost £1.99 so i thought id give it a try,
my m8 legalizdahurb gave me some dry chillie to make some pesticide with in case the stuff i bought dosent work
so ill let ya know if it works or not
apart from that the plants are doing good and the lil improvement i made the other day is helping loads to keep the heat in the grow space around the plants i still need to complete the improvement and will get that done tomorrow hopefully ill do another update as soon as i get it done
anyway i took a few more pics for ya to see
cheers all :)

Spidermites suck and you can kill them with neem oil. They also hate temps that are cool, and they hate breezes.

ello all i thought i would do another one of my many updates
well i have been into my grow space and fixed the hole that was under the roof tiles, it was sort of like shed felt with a huge ass tear in it,
anyway i filled it with that loft insulation stuff, fibreglass i think
and have made all the modifications nessary to make the grow space contained
and as for the heat it seems to be gettting better in there ill give you a proper update in a few hours
i only fixed the prob last night so i still need to know for certain if it has done the trick
well i took a pic of the tear in the roof so you can see what all the fuss was about lol
most of the draught in the loft was coming from there so it needed to be sorted really
cheers all :)

lol nice little setup man, it looks like you get the same problems as me, as much as i try i cant get my setup tidy, i put it all in one place but it never stays there and even if it does, it looks like a mess lol, nice goin man, cant wait to see some more...:)

thanks Abattoir
i just did my little spot check to test the modifacations i made yesterday to keep the heat in,
when you get in to the attic it is very cold but when you get into the grow area the highest temp i got in there was 20c so i think it could be a bit higher
ill do another update next week now i think
cheers all :)
