I saw the movie before reading the book, and it was all good. Either way I think will work fine.

Watch the movie first.
If you read the book first, you'll always feel dissapointed by the film, or spend too much time noticing the differences.
At least that's how i've always felt.
Intense film though.

Book then movie.... The directors actually did a pretty damn good job
at bringing the book to vision though, so I guess either way would be
fine.

Where the Buffalo Roam is another good movie based on Hunter S. Thompson
Hunter is played by Bill Murray.

Fear and Loathing is great in both movie and book but you should probably watch the movie first without reading the book so its more of a surprise.

I'd say read it, then watch it. Or if you like doing things backwards, watch it, then read it, backwards. It's a whole different story when you read it backwards.

i watched the movie first. its funny because while i was reading the book i would think of johnny depp and benicio del toro acting it out. it was maybe the best book i ever read. im reading
The Electric Kool Aid Acid Test by tom wolfe right now. another great book.

Movie then book.. Excellent movie, but there is so much more in the book that wasn't put into the movie, (to keep the film shorter), that if you read the book first, you will be dissapointed by the movie. (Dissapointed doesn't seem like the right word, 'cause I really like the movie anyways.) Get the dvd and watch the whole thing.. deleted scenes, the documentaries of HST and Steadman in the early 70's, and HST going to Hollywood, even some footage of Oscar Z. Acosta reading an exerpt from one of his books.

As I understand it, Depp has been working on the Rum Diary.. can't wait for that movie to come out.

And get a copy of The Proud Highway and Fear and Loathing in America. These are books of letters that he wrote to people from the 1960's and 70's, (with some letters to HST from other people). They put a lot of insight into the mind of HST. Oh, and get on ebay and buy a CD copy of his lecture at the the University of Colorado, (I think it's CO, can't remember I've been awake all night.)
