I'm making a CD for a girl. Cliche cliche, I know. However, I honestly haven't felt this way about someone for a long, long time, so I want this to mean something.

Anyway. Here are the songs I have so far. I would appreciate any recommendations that you think would be suitable. They don't necessarily have to be love songs, in fact I'm trying to be a bit more subtle than that. Just songs that are unique, special, beautiful, sad, moving, and it wouldn't hurt if the lyrics had something along the lines of rekindling an old flame, perhaps one that was never fully explored. Genres I'm thinking about: indie, alternative, classic rock, folk, I don't know..no rap, hip-hop, or country.

1. Jesus, etc. - Wilco
2. Morning Theft - Jeff Buckley
3. Bob Dylan's Beard - Wilco
4. Let's Not Shit Ourselves (To Love and to be Loved) - Bright Eyes
5. Susie Q - Creedence Clearwater Revival (her name's Susie)
6. Stickshifts and Safetybelts - Cake
7. Slow Like Honey - Fiona Apple

So that's it. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Since you like Wilco, you can't leave out I'm Trying To Break Your Heart, that's the most powerful love song of all time. Check out these songs:

Neutral Milk Hotel - In An Aeroplane Over The Sea
Elliot Smith - Everything Reminds me of her
David Garza - Float Away
Apples In Stereo - Lucky Charm
Sonic Youth - Do You Believe In Rapture?
Of Montreal - Don't Ask Me To Explain
Sunny Day Real Estate - Song About An Angel
Sunset Rubdown - Stadiums and Shrines II

I think a girl would laugh in my face if I tried to give her a CD. That's so cheesy and cheap.

the trick is not to give it to her
just let her listen
and when shes under the spell
kiss her neck gently
becareful she dont get pregnant

Well...I'd say Journey has some great songs, but you said you're trying to be subtle.

You might wanna try "Journey - Anyway You Want it" though.

Aww, you have Bright Eyes on there! If a guy gave me a CD with Bright Eyes on it, he'd deserve a lay, that's for sure :P
Hmm...what about "Caress Me Down" by Sublime? That's a sweet song. And "Chasing Cars" by Snow Patrol, just because it's a really really nice song, and I think any girl could appriciate it :)

Muse - Map of the problematique
Porcupine Tree - Collapse the light into earth
Bjork - hunter, or Possibly Maybe
Smashing Pumpkins - tonight tonight
Spearhead - Speaking of Tongues

There are some cool versions of Such Great Heights that aren't as nintendo-esque as the original. It's all good though.

Oh yeah, and Daft Punk - Harder, better, faster, stronger...

Girl sent me Coldplay- What If
At the time, I almost started crying, coldplay was sort of "our band" and that song had such a powerful voice to it. It's good for the cause.
Another GREAT song for the cause = Bob Marley's Is This Love.
wish ya' luck.
