I just moved and I am currently looking for a job. However before I worked in an Organic/Natural Deli in a Cooperative Grocery store making 10.50-11.25 an hour depending on when I worked. Weekends and nights you make more. Lowest I ever made was 10.50$ an hour. I was a shift leader(manager of my crew for each shift)....and I got a bonus 3 times a year that was 300-800$ depending on how much I worked and how many employees were in the bonus pool. I also got 401K and health insurance.
I miss that damned job...even my manager were stoners.

I don't know how much I make an hour as I get paid salary. In any case, I get by ok with about $500 a week after taxes. Allthough, I really shouldn't say as it's not something you're really supposed to talk about. No one should be proud of being broke, and people with money shouldn't flaunt it to others that don't have it. But there you go, I'm too lazy to delete.
i am a student in college, but i also work for a grocery store stocking shelves. im making $9/hr.

i'm a telemarketer, i get paid 9.75 to babysit a computer for 22 hours a week. this summer after i graduate from high school i'll be working full time. they also give us free food in the break room, and i get paid vacation and sick days. also a 401k plan.
best part: all my managers and coworkers are stoners. there are people working there that got hired straight out of prison for possession of cocaine. one of my managers has dreadlocks down to his ass and he went to 70 Phish shows.

Yeah, my old manager had dread locks and was in a 7 piece reggae band. He also grew and sold weed. I fucking loved that job. All 3 of my managers were huge stoners, in fact- on of my managers name was RAINBO.

Oh, I'm so sorry I didn't do it!
Well, I make it real easy!
One large chicken/capon in large stock pot, covered in water, boiled with 3 cup up onions and a chunk of celery root a couple of parsnips and turnips.
I slow boil that for hours. About 2 hours in, I add large chunks of celery and carrots. (sometimes I use a bay leaf or 2)
Around the 3.5-4 hour point, I take the chicken out, let it cool and debone it (it's already mostly deboned so it's just a matter of cutting up the pieces).
Depending on how strong the broth is, I may add water or a large can of college inn chicken broth.
Sometimes I add some barley or fine noodles in the last 30-45 minutes.
Then there are always choices of matzoh balls or kreplach.
We usually have one bowl the first night just because we can't wait but I like to put it in the fridge overnight and skim off all the fat THEN do the matzoh balls.
I do hope you'll try it because I swear, it cures all.:)

That looks great, Tootsie! Thanks for sharing your bubbe's recipe. I never have seen anyone make chicken soup with parsnips and turnips--or with celery root instead of regular celery to season the broth. Those additions sound great. I look forward to making that. In fact, I may make some this week for my sister. About all she feels like now is broth or applesauce, and that's only on the good days. This soup would have to do her some good. Thanks again!

YW birdgirl. I really hope it's something your sister will like. It will make her feel so much better and the tastes are so intricate her buds may love it. The soup always gave my dad a bit of a lift when he could eat.
After it cooks, you can either just remove the parsnips and turnips and eat em or toss em or leave em in the soup. I usually dump the celery root tho.
I love the celery in the soup and I'll go past the huge stalks and use the whole tender part. Just trim the bottom edge.
I'm in a bubbe mood this week. Tonight I made a kugel. lol

Birdgirl, I forgot to add....you may want to strain the soup through some cheesecloth for your sister. That way she wont get anything but the broth (no chicken pieces or anything that will make her feel icky) and you can give her a small side bowl of fine noodles in case she'd like to add some in.
Infact know whats good? Manischewitz egg noodles, barley shaped. Teeny soft tasty egg noodles.

that must be nice. I am a full time dental student living off student loans (and a shitload of them at that) as well as the pocket change I earn at a retail store in the mall $8/hour but they never fucking give me enough hours. My husband is a restaurant employee and he is no help, he is always broke too.

As long as he is loving and supporative...no amount of money he has or makes should run the relationship.

There is nothing wrong with not making money. I am just frustrated because he acts like a doormat at work and lets his bosses walk all over him. But that is his personality and I guess everyone has strengths and weaknesses at work. His weakness just happens to be asking for a well-deserved raise! I wasn't trying to be bitchy but I guess I was :)

True, it's the love and emotional support that matter most. But money concerns do influence relationships, no matter whether we want them to or not.
I don't envy you those student loans, TSM. We saved about 90% of my professional salary for the last 15 years or so when I was still working, and fortunately that's there now for me and our son to go to school on. Our son's in his third year of college at an expensive school. It took some planning so we could swing all that. My husband is a cardiologist, and he was starting residency when we were first married. His first years of practice went directly to paying back those loans. We knew that if I went to med school once our son was grown and gone, we needed to find another way to support that, so we saved. Heck, I'll be so old by the time I get out that I'd barely have the chance to practice medicine long enough to pay back debts if I incurred any.
Where are you in dental school and what year? I'm in my first year at UT-Southwestern Medical in Dallas. I understand the first two years of our curricula are almost identical, then y'all start branching off into teeth and we stay with the rest of the body. I find medical biochemistry the most intimidating course I'm in currently. Nice talking with you!

I go to the University of Minnesota and I'd rather not give further identifying details. Let's just say I've been there long enough to know the ropes, but not long enough to have a license.
For us, the first two years are both medical and dental, but after second year we start to drop the medical stuff and do mostly dental.
Biochemistry was super-hard for me. I wouldn't want to do it again.
Keep up the good work, Dr. Bird.

Thanks for your general location. I didn't mean to delve into details. Just wondered if you were down here anywhere nearby. Goodness, I can't imagine the winters in Minnesota, but then I'm sure you'd feel the same way about Texas summers.
Biochem is a scary thing. I feel constantly panicked in there. We don't have a UT-Southwestern dental branch in Dallas, so we're just med students alone in the first two classrom years, although there are some so-called allied health students in some of our classes on occasion. The UT dental schools are in San Antonio and Houston, I believe.
Are dental students the same as med students in that they take the board exams after the first two years of classroom training? I suspect it's the same way for y'all, but I'm curious.

42 year old retiree. The woman's a bit older and she'll be retiring at the end of this year. After that, we dunno what we're going to do, probably relax for a year or two and see if we have enough money to stay retired. We have no kids, the house is paid for, the car is paid for (and doesn't even have 30k miles on it yet even though it's a 2000 model), pretty much everything is paid for really, very little left on credit, so we'll probably be okay.
