Ok so im sitting outside on my friends deck smoking a joint, and i see this massive spider on this wooden railing just chillin. Im feeling really good so i blow a hit very slowly at the spider (dunno if it would do anything but it seemed like a good idea at the time  ).
I proceed to watch the spider just chill there for a minute and i look about a foot over and i see a fly on the edge of the rail. The fly walks around a bit and then flies right for the spider, im kinda watching this all in slow motion and as the fly is flying low he goes right above the spider and the spider just reaches up and grabs the fly right out of the air.
My jaw dropped and my eyes were wide as golf balls. i could not believe i just saw a spider take down a fly in mid air. It was the coolest thing ive ever seen, i really wish i could have filmed it or something.
So this spider sits there for the longest time, fly in its jaws (im assuming) and is slowly taking its life away. I can see the flies little legs squirming and its wings twitching every so often. I watched it for about 10 minutes before i got bored. I came back out about an hour later and found nothing on the railing. must have taken it back to its lair and turned its insides into mush or something. this was by far cooler than seeing a cheetah or tiger take down a gazelle.
it was probably because of the hit i blew into its face, made it into some super spider or something. :rasta:
just had to share it,
peace

I had a cool spider-related experience in the desert in New Mexico once. I was on guard duty (Army), in the middle of the desert, just me, nobody else within a quarter mile. I heard, like, a deep bzzzzz and I looked around and saw this big ass wasp buzzing over the dunes nearby. I stood up to get a better look, just in time to see the wasp attack a tarantula scuttling across the desert. There was a lot of insect and arachnid limb-flailing, and at the end of it, the spider was paralyzed, with the wasp on top of it. I'm pretty sure the wasp laid some eggs in the spider then flew off, to leave its eggs to hatch inside the paralyzed spider and eat it from the inside. Pretty cool, those wasps!

Guh.. i don't do spiders... i respect them, but if they come in my zone...anything is game.
Lady bugs are my friend, spiders annoy me... Making their webs... eating flies... my cat eats the flies for me. :D

yeah totally man, i'm arachniphobic (sp?) and any spider in my house is basically behind enemy lines at their own risk, it took all my will power not to squish a spider in my kitchen the other day, i figured i've killed enough of them to let one away every so often

i kill the little spiders, but the mack daddy's that roam outside that are like 2-3 inches long, i have the utmost respect for those ones. There so big that if you squish them i bet they make a sound. i let those ones be, but i kill the little guys that are in my house.
centipedes piss me off too, or whatever the little guys are with a bunch of legs.

lol yah, if I see one and fail to/don't kill it, I cannot return to that area until I see him again. I hate the surprises.

lol^^
I second that lol. :D
I don't have the balls to kill spiders. I hate killing insects in general. If I ever see a spider in my house, which I rarely do, I'll go out of my way to get like a cup, napkin, or paper and put the spider in/on the temp. vehicle and take them outside and let them go.

cool story. I was in Zanzibar many years ago...taking pictures n stuff....and there up on the telephone/elec wires are these honking big....and I mean big spiders, and their webs. I think the spiders were like up to a foot across....inc. legs....but even the bodies were the size of ur thumb....and no I wasn't wasted....totally amazing creatures, I sat and watched them for a while before moving on....

There is a huge ass spider outside the door in my porch, directly next to the porch light. I occasionally catch moths/misquitos flying around in the porch and just chuck em in the web. The spider charges the bugs, seemingly stings them or bites them (?) and then wraps them up in a cacoon where it procededs to devour them. It's pretty cool =P

I saw that happen for the first time ever last week except the spider got a bee!! It was the coolest thing I'd seen in forever! It wrapped that bee up tight in its web! I looked later too and it was gone. I called my husband all excited. He just laughed. lol

I have a story about that.
One random day in the spring, I was chilling on my porch in the backyard, just hanging with my dog.
I notice that right beside me, due to the occasional frantic/desperate buzz, a spider is hurryingly wrapping up a bee that got caught in it's web. I've never seen this before. I pity the bee.
Using a twig, I destroy the webbing around the bee, essentially freeing it from a slow, horrible death.
It buzz's off for all it's worth.
About 2 minutes later, the thing wont leave me alone. I'm scared shitless of bee's at the time, and this thing is fucking ATTACKING ME.
So finally, after at least five minutes of running and turning and ducking, I accept my fate. Let the bastard sting me, and by doing so, kill himself.
The bee flies near my face... hovers for a moment...
And kisses me on the lip.
And off he went.

Nah, wasn't into drugs at the time.
It really was the strangest thing.
But as soon as he did it, it all made sense. I immediately understood that it was a kiss, a kiss of gratitude, and I ended up just standing there, marvelling at the gesture.
