I play :D

My dad has played since the 50's. He won the battle of the bands in boston playing bass when he was like 18, and then passed it down to me.

Bass is fun.

I was in the same boat, and I just bought a set of D'Addario strings yesterday. I haven't played bass much for the past couple of years, and now have an incentive to start again with the new strings.

You can boil old strings and bring them back somewhat, but I've never tried it.

Here's a site that has another method for renewing strings (which I have not tried, either):

It's simple - find a song you link that is easy to play ("the misfits" was my choice :P), look up a tab at bassmasta.net, learn to play said tab. It's really just practice practice practice more than anything. Also try to expose yourself to some jazz music, it tends to have the best bass lines.

I just started playing bass a few months ago, didn't know what i was doing at first but my mate plays bass in a few bands so we get a jam usually on a friday now, and even though its been incredibly dry around here recently one of us has always managed to get at least a bit for a few joints, so its all good, we get stoned, he teaches me some bass.

Anyway, pu ekot, could you reccomend some jazz tunes? i've been meaning to listen to some but not sure what to get... also i've been learning a few songs by pennywise and the descendents, any other(not too complicated) similar style songs you can reccomend?

I play whatever instrument I can get my hands on. I've only been playing bass for 2 years but Ive gotten pretty good at it. It helps to learn guitar first and to have big hands

Yeah I play.

Here's my current gear:
Rickenbacker 4001, black/white
Ibanez GSR200, dark red
Ampeg Ba-112 Amp
Behringer BX4210A Amp

I'm in a three-piece band called "Rely On Miscommunication" with my friend Erik on the drums. I supply the bass and vocals. J-osh is on the keyboard.

Jesse Keeler is my hero.

i play bass, i have a dean sledge hammer(sp?) 5 string . now all i need is a new amp...i popped mine. anyway, what kind of music do all you bass players love to play? i play bass for a death metal band and it is also fun to play jazz but damned if that isn't some of the hardest stuff to play!

I don't play bass but on another forum that I am on there is a guy in a band and the bassist of his band is the granddaughter of Roger Glover, of Deep Purple fame. I thought it was cool to have the good genes in the band and good luck, but talk about having a leg up on the competition.

I've been playing guitar and bass for so many years i cant remember when i didnt play them.

I used to be the bassist in a signed band, and then we ended up splitting up cos coke got added to the equation. We was fine with weed, but coke, nah... not good with bands.

I got a Gibson Thundebird IV bass, a Fender Jazz bass, and a few more, cant even remember them all, i have so many basses and i've got 2 guitars now.

I got a 360 watt 2 cab stack, a 130 watt combo for practise and 1 900 watt 2 cab stack.

I've spend god knows how much on my equipment, not to mention the thousands it cost to have my band recorded.

But we made almost all our money back with the gigs... i mean, getting payed over 1000 just for a small set, it rocks... and makes your money back really quick when your fully booked with gigs all over England LOL.
