Nothing good can come of this, the U.S. can't even threaten invasion because we don't have enough manpower to support one.
Japan may develop nukes and that would stress relations with China which already has them.
The S. Koreans will have to live with the fear of elimination under their heads.
The list goes on.

what do u mean US can support an invasion?...dude they got nukes man, it isnt like we just send some fuckin troops in there...this isnt iraq...they have working nuclear warheads, theyre not just gonna let us walk in and take em from them...
and china said they had nothing to do with it and actually told NK not to...which means china stands pretty nuetral at the moment...

The countries with ICBM*capability (meaning the ability to send a nuke anywhere within 15 min.) are Russia, the United States, France, the United Kingdom, People's Republic of China and (likely) Israel.
Plus in 1998 NK sent a missile OVER Japan. In June the tested a missile that could reach Los Angelas but it failed.
I don't think that we can win a war without an ivation at some point. Maybe we can I'm no expert. However, we would need to make sure that any NK weapons don't get "lost" during the bombing and bought up by terrorists elsewhere.

Invasion by the US is out of the question. Let??s just say that if you want to eat in N. Korea you have to be part of the war machine. It??s not a question of joining the military, you already ARE the military. There are too many people in the world that don??t like the idea of N. Korea running nuke tests in their back yard. The US will squeeze them with sanctions and lots of ugly talk but as far as muscle goes the US will take a back seat on this one.
I can??t wait to see how this gets blamed on George Bush:rolleyes: . Come on you know that test was really done by the American government because GB had a dream that N. Korea has oil. I think we just found Saddam??s WMD??s??..lol?kidding :D .
It??s a good thing that the UN is on the case I sleep so much better knowing their on top of things :what: .

NK leadership is wack, Kim Jong is completely delusional. Im extremely knowledgeable of most all weapons from .223 to ICBMs. Our missile technology by far surpasses most other countries and counter-missile technology is just as good if not better. They cant send a nuke anywhere that really counts, if they could get one on its way to the US it would be down from a PAC3 Patriot or laser in no time. As you guessed the US has allot of Shhh projects that not many know about so just feel good about that. Just send in the world police again...America fuck yea gonna save the mother fucking day yea.

Just FYI ICBM does not equal 15min delivery anywhere, just greater than 3,500 mile range I think.

Where'd you live in China moorephened and what were ya doing there? I lived in Shanghai for a bit over a year back in '96-'97. Totally different place now though. My wife is Chinese so we go back every year or so and can never believe how much different it is now. Heck, now they've even got Starbucks. I went half crazy trying to find a decent cup of coffee when I was there.
Anyhow, the Chinese will never like the Japanese. What the Japanese did to the Chinese in WWII makes what the Nazi's did to the Jew's look like a tea party. The fact that the Japanese continue to deny it makes them all the more pissed. The Chinese do like Japanese money though. If you go to any of the markets where prices aren't marked the vendors will typically have three prices: Chinese, general laowai(foriegner), and Japanese. Scamming the Japanese is the unofficial national sport .
North Korea having nukes really isn't anything new. They've been considered a nuclear power for quite a while. This is just the first time they've actually tested one of their nukes. It's just Kim Jong Il sticking his tongue out at the rest of the world. I don't know what he's hoping to accomplish though. Since we already knew he had them it's not like it's suddenly going to change anything. Plus it's just alienating him even more from China. While China would be quite critical of any unprovoked action by the US against the DPRK, they'll be just as critical if Kim starts something. If he's not careful he's going to wind up facing the the US and PRC on the same team.

Yeah, I'm sure there were a lot of disapointed little boys and girls in Washington, when that last missle North Korea tested fell into the water shortly after launch, and they weren't able to try out their new toys ;)
As far as not being able to send a nuke anywhere that would count is concerned, there's a bit over 10million people in Seoul that would probably argue with you. From what I've read, however, most experts feel he'd probably use them tactically, against any large concentration of US forces posed for an invasion. The scariest thing is that Kim most likely would use them. Like a cornered animal he'll lash out with whatever he's got and if he figures he's going dowm one way or another, why not?

I read that it was possibly a neutron bomb not a nuclear bomb. Which means that it would be a smaller blast but an absolute shit load of radiation. Way more radiation then nuclear bombs.

Its weird, they don't release any radiation but cause radiation to be released at the target source.
Pretty unsetteling. Federal officicials aren't worried that he'll try to send nuclear material by missile. But by terrorist. Making the situation way shittier. TT

Nothing good can come of this, the U.S. can't even threaten invasion because we don't have enough manpower to support one.All they need is another staged terror attack, like a dirty bomb going off in a metropolitan area, blame it on Iran or North Korea and bingo you have your draft and your much needed sheep soldiers!

Relax, they aren't gonna launch any missile at us unless we're dumb enoug to invade them, and there isn't a drop of oil anywhere in korea. The problem is that they might sell them. And don't start with "they'll sell them to terrorists", that doesn't fit with their agenda of not getting invaded. And anyway the price would be such that only countries and bill gates could afford them. Selling them to iran seems likely, they have boatloads of the two things nk wants most, money and oil, but they'll have their own soon enough anyway. And don't place much faith in missle defense, it's dirt simple to make a warhead stealthy, compared to a plane. It's only about the size of a basketball (in cross section, coming at you), doesn't need to fly in the normal sense, and it's moving so fast you have to lock on it from alot further away. The radar on the thing is probably aegis or something similar. I've heard from guys who should know that they could light up the f-117, don't know at what range, or if they could get a lock on it. That shit is classified, I'm sure. You can add japan to the list of countries with icbms, they use them to launch satelites. But if you can put something in orbit you can hit anywhere in the world from any direction. I've actually heard some of the neofacist talking heads say we should give japan the bomb, my grandfather would roll over in his grave.

They can't even really sell a weapon that doesn't work that well.....they are using technology that is weaker than what what used in Hiroshima. Its not they are mass producing for a profit, they just want to be seen as having "power". There are a few places that would be a much better place to buy such an item.
BTW missile defense is pretty good...the laser technology will soon make it incredible, but even with the PAC 3s there is a good success rate. You not trying to hit a target with the diameter of a basket ball but rather get within a certain proximity to it and BOOM. The blast and frag can kill a missile from a fair range. Most ICBMS have a diameter you can walk through anyways.

Only in front of it, it's moving faster than the detonation rate, which is about 8000 m/s for your namesake (aka RDX). An inch behind and the blast can't catch it. I worry more about pakistan, a fairly reasonable government right now, but they're one assasination away from being our worst nightmare.

If you can throw a 90 MPH fast ball stationary I assure you that it will exceed 90 MPH if you throw it from a moving vehicle, same thing with the explosives.
I'm almost 99% sure a incoming warhead speed wouldn't be even close to 8000 m/s. The space shuttle doesn't even fly that when in orbit with no atmospheric resistance.
The direction of the missile travel is constantly corrected based on the incoming trajectory....im pretty sure if a nuke was on its way there would be quite a few Pats in the air, it would get hit. Laser technology is used and is very effective but its still in its baby stages.

That's just what I've heard never actually did the math. So... 8000 ms/s would be roughly 25000 feet so 5 miles a second, or 18,000 mph. If a missile goes 4000 miles in 15 minutes that would be 16,000 mph. I'm not sure what explosive they use, the det rates are all over the place. Gonna be close.

WASHINGTON - A Boeing Co.-led team has successfully fired for the first time a powerful laser meant to fly aboard a modified 747 as part of a U.S. ballistic missile defense shield, officials said Friday.
The test, dubbed ??First Light? by insiders, lasted only a fraction of a second but gave the project an important boost at a time it was deemed at risk of cuts or cancellation.
The Pentagon??s Missile Defense Agency described the event ?? carried out on Wednesday in a 747 fuselage on the ground at Edwards Air Force Base in California ?? as a ??landmark achievement? for the Airborne Laser system.

U.S.-Israeli Laser Destroys Medium-Range Missile in Flight
In a test conducted yesterday, the Mobile Tactical High-Energy Laser (MTHEL), a joint American-Israeli ballistic missile defense (BMD) project, destroyed a large, high-speed ballistic missile armed with a live-warhead in what is the most complicated and realistic test yet of a laser-based missile defense system.
The Tactical High-Energy Laser (THEL) laser illuminator can engage up to 60 nearly-simultaneous threats at a range of up to five kilometers, while maintaining a near-100 percent probability of success.
Although the system, located at the U.S. Army Missile Range at White Sands, NM, has been successfully tested against short-range Katyusha rockets, yesterday??s unspecified target missile, described by lead-U.S. contractor Northrop Grumman as ??representative of threats faced by U.S. and Israeli forces,? posed a much more sophisticated challenge by presenting a target moving at more than twice the speed, three-times the altitude and significantly more mass than the MTHEL system has faced thus-far.
