I saw this movie and wow, movies usually don't leave an impression on me after its finished but this one did it was pretty fricken intense emotions that lingered after the movie ended.
Now I have to watch the original: Inferno Affairs.
This is by far my new most favourite movie! Im really surprised at the ating job Leonardo Dicarprio did. He's really matured as an actor since Titanic.
All the actors were so good.
Has anyone else seen this movie? I'm surprised there hasn't been a thread started on it yet.
Scorscase(sp?) for the win!

Scorcese. Legend. (But too violent for me.) Needs to learn subtlety.
That screenplay was confusing, and the Japanese story it was based on was the same way. I liked the acting in the movie. Nicholson was good, and Damon and DeCaprio were great, I thought. But all the violence, which Scorcese always overdoes, haunted me. I did like the big rat in the final scene, a statement about the pervasiveness of corruption in both crime and cop circles.
I fear they're going to give it best picture this year, and it really isn't best picture. Just most disturbing. A best picture need to have a really top-notch screenplay. But I think the academy may select it anyway simply because they think Scorcese's time has come.

See, now I thought the rat was the worst part of the film. It was just so unnecessary. It was way too in your face. Not subtle enough,
And while it was very violent, that is the world we live in and the world Scorsese grew up in. It may not always be easy to watch, but it is accurate.
I love Scorsese and I enjoyed the film. He'll probably get the Oscar this year, whether he deserves it for the film or not. But lets face it, the Academy has fucked him for pretty much all of his films so it is about time they recognize him.
Example:
Eminem - 1 Oscar
Scorsese - 0 Oscars

This is like the perfect movie for me. For one, I love movies with guns, swearing, and drugs. Check. Beautiful dialogue, plot, twists, and acting. I love all the actors in the movie. Matt Damon and Markie Mark representing the Bean to the fullest. The place they shot where Costello is killed is a one minute drive from me. Most of the other scenes are a few train stops or a drive away from me. As for the subway stop they show towards the end...I've been in that exact spot 100's of times. Been on that train 100's of times. Fuckin' great.

Hey Mac, did you see any of the shooting? Just knowing that Scorsese was around there must be awesome.
Actually, Land of the Dead was shot in Toronto and I always mention it when I'm in T.O. and I see the building :)

Well, the scene towards the end where Jack is killed by Matt...was filmed in a a shipyard near me. It's like a huge land area...drove by it...but as you can imagine, hard to get anywhere close. I dunno how they did the train station and train scenes though, it's one of the most crowded stops and places in the city probably.
phenomenal movie and an amazing directing job. nicholson may just be the best actor of all time. the guy just shines in so many movies. i mean for damn near four decades the guy has had all time great performances in every one. every actor does good in this but in my opinion he steals the show.
great directing too.
if you dont want a violent movie, dont look to a movie about murderous gangsters. what i like about scorsese, it can be incredibly violent but he never relies on it to make the movie(case in point see the saw sequels). i followed the dialogue fine myself, but my mother told me she had trouble following it. i guess it was just because it kept me so entertained, i only get lost in dialogues when the movie is boring, like libertine.
anyhow, i dont think this was scorsese's best, but i do think it was his best directing job.
and guy, we get it, you live in boston, please, please, im begging you, tell us a few more times, i dont think you have driven the point home quite yet.

LOL...I figured since it was a pretty popular movie, I thought it would be pretty interesting for people to know that it was so realistic in detail..they didn't just throw it together..everything was authentic. From the State police cars to the trains to the subway...the State house...everything. Nobody would actually know that except someone that has seen it first hand. But, thanks for enjoying my posts enough to actually know and remember that information...I think I said it once before. Means a lot to me bro. Appreciate it...I really do (actually my balls are getting a little sweaty, so could ya get off 'em for a bit).
man calm down. i was just saying quit milking it. i dont really know what that novel was about and there were no personal attacks i said quit beating a dead horse and stand by it. take a cheeeeell peeeeel
someone needs to put this fire out before it burns my house down

It's a Hong Kong film by Andrew Lau who directed the Young and Dangerous series which is like the HK Godfather.
It's not Japanese..
Remakes usually suck but the right man directed this..

LOL...my bad Plant, was just playing with the kid a bit haha! He knew what was coming though. Didn't mean to hurt any feelings if I did lol.
i thought the rat was too in your face and had it been like that through the whole movie i would agree. so really i didnt. i liked that part at the end it was kind of funny and it put the whole thing in perspective. believe me, if you are into the subtler points of directing this movie had it all and then some

When I saw it in the theater people laughed when they saw the rat! It was over the top. Meh, one bad shot in an otherwise quality film :)

I saw that movie the Departed, and I thought it was so-so. I found it hard to follow at times, and the story was much too stretched out. It was a 2 1/2 hour movie, and it was the one thing through the entire thing. They could have added something else in that movie.
So yeah, it was okay, but nothing I'd ever add to my movie collection. Worth a watch though.

Excellent film with some great performances ( especially Dicaprio's he was awesome ) but the worst American accent i've heard in a long time by Ray Winstone .

Caught this the other day. I also thought it was VERY good, almost tempted to say Scorsese's best film, certainly much better that that Aviator crap. Scorsese really knows how to bring the best out in people, Di Caprio did a fine job, as did Matt Damon. Nicholson gave the performance of a lifetime and I was also very impressed with Mark Wahlberg, David O'Hara and Vera Farmiga. Now there's a film that puts Tarantino in his place. The only thing I can fault it on is perhaps its cuts too quickly between scenes, but I guess that is to help fit the whole plot, which is very complex, into a cinematic form. Nice to see a gangster film where every isn't speaking like italian mafioso.10/10
Excellent film with some great performances ( especially Dicaprio's he was awesome ) but the worst American accent i've heard in a long time by Ray Winstone .
I thought a lot of the accents were deliberately like that, to give the impression of Irish/english/scots ex-pats living over there. I think it really added a great sinister aura to some of the characters that made the film all the more vivid and frightening. I have a few relatives (so-called) and acquiantances from scotland who live over there and they have similarly bad america accents.
I thought Winstone was terrific in it, best performance I've seen by him.
