Has anyone else seen this movie. Its pretty fucked up and is shot documentary style which makes it even crazier. I noticed in the "Trippy Movie" (its not trippy but is kind of a mindfuck) thread that no one mentioned it, so I wanted to know if anyone else saw it. I don't honestly know if they have it at Blockbuster....but I think its a good movie that could leave you saying "Holy shit" after you watch it. Also, I'm sure a lot of you high school kids can relate to it.

This is what they call a "Clorox" movie.
Meaning, only a bath in clorox would erase this movie from your head.

Ya, your fucking right about that. Its the only movie that I could compare to Requiem for a Dream in that sense.

seen it, knew the one kid too, forget what his name was, telly or something
edit: wow looked it up and was right ;) Actor's name was Leo, crap closed the window never mind... Anyways was looking at the pics of him on his actors bio and might have been a different person, although it has been like 10 years so guess he got older..

Ya I guess at the time, none of them were really actors. The director found some of them skateboarding in the street and asked them to be in it. This is probably why they act so realistic because really they are literally "being themselves". I'm sure you know of one of the girls, Rosario Dawson. She was one of the few that actually made it in acting. Also, 'Casper' was in Next Friday, when I found that out I was like 'Oh shit that is him'. He committed suicide after Next Friday for some reason too?

Basically (without giving too much away) its about a day in the life of young kids (15-17) from New York City. Its shot documentary style, and when I first saw it I was really young, and I actually thought it was real. There is a serious plot to it which I'm not going to spoil here. There's some sick parts to it, some funny parts, and some overall "holy shit" parts. Theres drugs, sex, a brutal fight scene, alcohol, more drugs, theft, etc. Basically these kids don't give a fuck, and think they rule the world like most kids at that age. If your in high school, you will definitely get something out of this flick, but it also entertains. The actually filming of it is quite amazing, great shots of New York, Central Park, etc. Remember, these kids are not actors at the time, which adds a more realistic feel to it.

Yeah kind of cool how they took real people, or real Kids even, and threw em in the movie. The guy I knew actually worked at a old skate shop that is now closed down since years back. Anyways, movie was messed up with the whole aids thing but enjoyed seeing our nyc street and club culture in a movie

Lol, Casper is my favorite character. I couldnt believe they got the kid they did to play Telly though, he just does not fit his character xD.
edit: wow, I just did a search on imdb and the guy that played Casper died in 2000, he killed his self by hanging :-/, wow lol.
MacWQ33
10-12-2006, 07:25 PM
They were just kids off the street so they were kinda playing themselves. Ya I saw that about Casper. He was Roach (the white kid at Pinkys) in Next Friday in case nobody knew. The black girl is Rosario Dawson (many movies) and the girl Jenny actually was nominated for an Oscar in "Boys Don't Cry" I think it was.

Ya lol! I love when Ice was like "the bud is kickin in" and Chris goes "...Dont start trippin Creig" lol! Then he starts trippin out and Smokey goes "Man I knew I shouldnt have gave him no chronic!" LOL!, sorry. That part was just hilarious :stoned:.

I love Smokey. Just the way he talks is hilarious, never mind what he's saying. One of the best characters in ANY movie IMO. Ya, Craig runs in the house, and comes right back out like, "You hear my phone ring", and Smokes like "Nah man, Damnn!" "Yo you want some Kool-Aid?" "Man you know I want some Kool-Aid."

Casper, the dopest ghost in town!

Yes, it was her first film. I forgot the name of her character, but just looked it up and it was Ruby. She's the girl who is friends with Jenny, and goes with her to the doctor. She has been in a shitload of films since then like Sin City, Alexander, Rent, and Clerks 2.

In a way I sorta think Larry Clark secretly enjoys what he directs. Ken Park and Kids were just two movies I seen by this guy and Ken Park was just fuckin twisted. I guess Kid's wasnt that bad because I could sort of relate to it but I couldnt relate to Ken Park worth a damn and it made me go "omfg." The only part of that movie I like was (wont spoil it) when the kid had something for the mom...hope I said enough but not too much :p.

Just got through watching "Kidulthood", which is often compared to Kids. I was a bit disapointed with it, I thought it was going to be better. But, if you liked Kids, you might like this..I dunno. It takes place in London, and it's a bit hard to understand the kids sometimes, but it's worth a watch I guess.
Not really a movie I'll probably watch again though, unlike Kids where I have seen it a shitload of times and will watch it a shitload more times.
