View Full Version : Virgin Cabinet Grower
Hello people,
Would anyone out there be kind enough to provide me with cabinet growing information? i have taken time to read up but would luv to recieve some professional advice on this matter. This will be much appreciated!
Ok...Ive managed to get myself a decent size WHITE wardrobe (71 inches high, 29.5" wide and 20" deep). I wanna keep things simple as i dont like things to get too complicated.
Here are the list of items i am planning to purchase for the wardrobe:
1) Extracter fan (I'm not sure of the size to get..any recommendations?)
2) Carbon filter
3) 250w HPS Light
4) Cooling tube (Not sure of the size to get. Any suggestions?)
Is there any other (cheaper way) on preventing over heating/fire other than a cooling tube?
5) Digital Thermohygrometer
6) Normal fan
7) Some kind of timer for the light and fan
8) Plant pots, Nutrients & low PH level Soil
Guys...is there anything else that i am vitally missing?
I would really appreciate the help from anyone who is willing to share their knowledge in cabinet growing. ;)
Thankyou folks

ok 1st off thats a perfect cab size if all u want to do is veg and flower all at once. aftter 1st grow u will have bigger and better plans trust me.(thats a good thing) start your seedlings under 3-4 cfls, bigger the better. 2nd
of all, scrap the 250wt. after your seedlings are about 4in tall with a couple of nodes, put them under 400w mh. i would suggest 400w hps ballest hen you can get 400w mh bulb that will run off of the hps ballest. so when your ready to flower just swap bulbs to the hps. also you can leave the cfls in there also. as for cool tubes, if your ventalation is adiquit u shoudent need it.
im to high to think any more tonite, someone else will shurly have more to add. hope this helps.

250 HPS for flowering.
what lights do u have for veg. stage?
u don't need timer for fans, as long u dont have CO2 system in your garden...
fan that brings air IN should be less powerful, than fan, that suck air OUT...
how many plants r u planing to have in your wardrobe? what are growing space measurments?
Thanks for the response guys! God Bless Ya..he he he.
Im off to 'HOMEBASE' tomoz to see what my local DIY shop have.
To CMORBUD, u got me thinkin about those cfls lights-i was gonna bypass them and stick with my 250w throughout all the stages. But ur making me go hmmmm..maybe i shud go for the cfls! Thanks for the info bud.
To Orange cloud: Im gonna be checking the equip out tomoz. If they dont have the stuff i will have to visit my nearest hydroponic shop asap (Im dying to become a jedi master in growin the best smellin plant in the world! The info on the power of fans will defo come in handy. Im planning to have 3 plants in my wardrobe. and the growing space measurements are perhaps just under the wardrobe size given. Maybe take off 6 inches of the height of the wardrobe as this will be for the lamps etc.
once again guy..cheers for the info.
To everybody: Any further info with regards to cabinet growing will be eagerly awaited...lol
when it gets up and running i will post some pics
Thankyou
Mr T

If you can get the 42watt cfls go for them, i'd say get around 5, giving you over 200 watts (for 4 feet sq i reckon thats right, but the more the better within reason) or if you can get envirolites (they're just a big cfl) i'd recommend getting one of those, they do a 125 and 200 watt lamp. Remember to the daylight or cool white and not warm white for vegging.
Nice one Hudson!
If u dont minw, Wud u care to explain:
''Remember to the daylight or cool white and not warm white for vegging."
I dont quite get it.
Do u think Homebase will stock CFL's and envirolites..if not wheres the next best (as im imagining not all Hydro shops supply this)
Is that the scousers that u are supporting- Liverpool city Rocks for a night out!!

Ok, hear is what I think you should do to keep a constant cycle going. Make two sepperate grow areas, use the top 20 inches approx for a veg slash mother cab. Put 3 42w 6500K bulbs in there and that will take care of veg lighting or go with 5 23w CFL bulbs. Then use the bottem area to throw that 250w up in for your flowering plants. You will always have some plants ready to throw into flower and have a harvest every 2 months. If this is something you would like to do I can get more spacific on plans.
Adieu
blue bear,
thanks for your opinion.
ill prob do that when i get more competent at doing things. for now im happy to grow the tallest plant possibble-get to grips with what i need to do and when i have done a few cycles i think ill opt for ur idea. im sure i will be in touch in the future...ha ha ha.
take care mate
Mr T
i have been told that because of the size of my cabinet, i would only need an extracter fan to take the air out and that i shudnt bother about a fan which takes air in. They said that all i need is a vent hole at the bottom of the wardrobe. i would prefer to attach a duct to the bottom of the cabinet that supplies fresh air from the outside.
what do u guys think to this debate....be content with just a hole cut out at the bottom or adding an in ward sucking fan (from the outside environment) to the bottom of the wardrobe?
cheers dudes or dudettes

The problem with growing the tallest plant possible is that your 250w is only good for about a 12 to 18 inch plant, so you are going to have more than half of cab to use anyways if you wanted. Either way, good luck.

if it is 30 inches width and 20 inches deep, u could fit 6 plants in there. I woulde recommend to do SCROG too...
air OUT fan should be located in the top part of the wardrobe, cuz this is where all hot air is. air IN should be located in the bottom.
gee wizz!! i didnt realise the energy that it requires just to set up. i went down to my local 'home base' and it was SHITE..It didnt have the stuff that i needed. i think ill be buying most of my stuff from ebay.
anyway..
blue bear...i think i will be going with your fabulus idea...a cycle wud be nice. what wattage wud i need to grow 5 foot plants? the idea of growing an 18 inch plant isnt all that appealing!
orange cloud..what exactly is SCROG? and do u think an air vent at the bottom of the wardrobe is sufficient or wud u say that i need a fan for sucking fresh air in.
looking forward to your replies...
Happy smokin

and theres another thread I posted "some" info about SCROG.

each of my plants has a separate vire net (10x10 inches) above em.
spreads buds on the surface nice and even.
doing SCROG helps to fit plant in small height growboxes.

Do you already have the 250W, and if so is it the sunburst? Is there a rim around the hood to slide a glass into the hood to seperate the light from the plants? What kind of stores do you have in your area, Wally Mart, Lowes or Home Depot? Does the cabinet have any kind of shelf in it? Does it have a wood back side or a cardboard backing? I am still going to help you if your intrested, just have a few questions first. You are right in thinking that putting a cab together takes some work and some considerable amount of thought.

hi guys!
cheers for the response..its really good to see the kind of home fitted cabinets that are out there...im lovin it!
ok...looking good orange cloud..organic is looking healthy! thanks for the SCROG info..this expalings why i have seen the mesh method in one of the pics i have seen. i will be reading it in detail when ive more time..just returned from a long day..my heads fried-even with the drugs...lol. appreciate the info mate!
CMORBUD: when i am ready to split my wardrobe up...would the light from the top (veg) interfer with the (flowering section) as i need total darkness. If light escapes down into it..them thats gonna screw up the flowering lighting. I bet ur gonna say..make sure to do a good job at seperating the two compartments-but im shit at DIY-the wardrobe does not have a split...i will have to take a pic of my wardrobe and post it on here soon (weekend probably)
Your cabs look great man....it looks like a room! i just luv the upside down fans! ive read somewhere that foil is not that good as a reflector especially if it is creased...so why do i see it being a common item in cuboards..why not go with white matt paint??
Mr Blue Bear..good day to you.
Ive phoned up a hydro shop and pecked the assistants head about loads of shit...and now i feel alot more confident in knowing what im supposed to be doing. im gonna but most of the stuff online from that shop!
Not got a light just yet but will more than likely be going for a 250 watt lighting unit (all in..reflector..ballast..bulb..etc)- not sure if it is sunburst though-i doubt it as its at a budget price..cant wait to get all my stuff. i will make sure to post a pic of it to show u when i get it.
my cabinet has no shelfves in it..was a cheap 2nd hand one. the backing of it is i think cardboard or perhaps..thin chip board...cheap and nasty anyway. ill try n post a pic of the inside of my cabin at the weekend. the bonus thing about my wardrobe is that its a good size and is white in colour.
so for my 1st grow..all im gonna do is place to fans in the cuboard..one top and bottom, install the lighting, take my plants to the flowering stage and nearing the end of the flowering stage im gonna place some new veggies on at the bottom with the envolite near it...hey wud this work..ive just realised the timing of the lighting will clash with one another?
anyway folks.....gotta head for my bed soon as ive got another long day at work tomoz.....oh and blue bear thanks for offering to help me...im definitely interested in any help and advice.
im soo looking forward to smelling those future plants!
my mate is going off to amsterdam soon...any ideas on the brand of seeds to get?..i want normal majiuana and skunk seeds.
sorry about all the questions dudes!!
Happy smokin guys

6 85w cfls@5000 lms each for vedg,4 85w cfls and a 400w hps for flower.

Hey guys...i need ur advise here.
Ok..im nearing placing an order for the whole kit for my wardrobe...but the assistant are saying that if i want to have a carbon filter in place..i will need to buy an (4") carbon filter (35) and also buy their 4" 160-100 solar pilau fan: 250 cubic metre per hour @ £60.
My initial idea was to buy two kitchen extractor fans : 85 cubic metres per hour @ £15 each and to fit a carbon filter in the 4" aluminium duct.
I am led to believe by the assistant that there is no between range (power) of fan...its either gonna have to be 85 cubic meter ph or 250 cubic metre ph. and if i want the carbon filter then it must be the £60 fan.
please advise me on this matter dude.
this is my list that i am contemplating on getting in the very near future:
1) 4" 160-100 S & P fan (£60)
2) 4" 5meter aluminium ducting (£5)
3) 4" Bathroom extractor fan (£15)
4) 4" Budget carbon filter (£35)
5) 5 X 2 litre pots (For baby plants)
6) 3 x 4 litre pots (Medium sized plants)
7) 3 x 7.5 litre pots (Flowering stage)
8) PH tester
9) 250 watt Lighting unit (£75)
what do u think about my pot size...good choice of size? im thinkin of using soil as my medium.
cheers guys
Mr T
oh...and ive already ordered a lead/lamp for the the cfl light. im gonna be getting a 125 watt envolite bulb for it.
:)
Please advise if its possible to get a midway extracor fan (Between 85-250 cubic metre powered fans)

friend for the same price (pretty much) you can go 400 wt you will be sorry later that you didnt. you have ventalation to support the heat which insnt much more than the 250wt. also consider using a hps ballest. because there is a conversion lamp for mh application with hps ballest. you can have the best of both worlds.please consider this my friend. trust me youle thank me when your ship comes in lmao.
later
ps dont forget the other best friend, your cfls. best damn investment i ever made. i believe.
