First time grow!

Hi all, i want to grow a plant that dont yeild in to much just nice amount. Im a bit :confused: Im stuck at the moment with the soil. I no you start off with paper untill they crack then place them in soil but you need the right soil or mixture right?
Could someone please enlighten me on this part of growing?

A great starter soil should be something like 1/3 perlite, 1/3 peat or coco coir, and 1/3 wormcastings. Water thoroughly, then put the seed in just under the surface. In two or three weeks start adding fertilizer with at 1/3 or 1/2 the recommended strength.
