Carrot sticks. That's how I quit, whenever I wanted a cig, I munched on a carrot stick instead. I don't how it worked, but it did.

no idea if this work, a friend of mine said it worked for him though. take a cig out of a pack of smokes empty it out and mix the tabbaco with little bits of cut up elastic and re roll it. put the smoke back in the pack and forget about it. My friend said the second he took a drag of the elastic smoke he never wanted to even see another cigarette for a long time, it was that bad.

just count how many cigarettes you smoke a week on average. then smoke one less cigarette each week until you've quit.

Yeah, but smoking can be really tough. I mean, to everyone around me they're the most addictive thing they've had. All but two of my friends smoke and they will for the rest of their lives, probably. I hate it.
But I used to smoke too. I just quit cold turkey. It wasn't addictive to me, I guess because I always, always hated the taste of cigarettes. I'd always need coffee or tea when I have a cigg because of the taste. So, that's how I quit. The taste alone just made me shy away and whenever I wanted to smoke one I just put something in my mouth to chew on. Like a straw, or a marker end or whatever. Straws and gum work best.
hey CC man i havent been on cannabis. com for a while clicked on today and yours was the first thread i saw.Man what a coincedence,Im goin thru the same bullshit right now tryin to beat the dreaded cigs. ive tried cold turkey , patches and gum none worked and i even found myself smoking with patches.Just the other day a work mate gave me a book called Allen Carrs easy way to stop smoking, wow im only half way thru it now and im changing my trai of thought already because of it.Man ive smoked cigs 4 10 years thinking I was gettin pleasure out of it and now im lightin up takin adrag and questioning what the hell i am doin, all because of this book ,Ireally can see light at the end of the tunnel and can say im on my way to bein a non smoker. So dude if ya serious abt quitting i reccomend u get a copy of this book it just might be what ur looking for...GOODLUCK man ill let u know if it really worked in a couple of days .lets do this kick the habit...peace.

I don't even want to know how many I smoke a day. I'd prolly depress me into smoking even more. All I know is that I picked up a carton two days ago and I opened the last pack the am and went and got some more. It's me and my wife smokin em, but I smoke the most out of us by far.
Good luck quitting man, I wish I had some tips, but if I did, I'd be clean and clar myself

jeez it seems like you cig smokers make it into way big of a deal. i mean if you diddnt have any access to them i am sure youd b fine. why dont you just keep getting really high or really drunk until you forget about that shit. i remember i tried cigs for a first time when i was out of weed and they were no problem to quit i jus smoked for like a week, then i decided there is no point so i just stopped. cold turkey no problem. i just think addiction is a state of mind you gotta overcome it

It is NOT just a state of mind and you can't just "forget" about them...unfortunately! You are right that we would all survive if we didn't have access to them...it's just a really bad habit...that you do without really thinking about it. If I try to forget about them then I end up focusing on NOT having one and that makes me want one...if that makes any sense. Really bad, stupid, expensive habit.

Just make the decision and stick to it. Only a punk ass lame can't quit cigarettes. Do you want to be a punk ass lame? I did not think so so go on and put down the cigs and just think about the bigger bong hits you will be able to do without cigs fucking up your lungs.

ya i guess i havent gotten truely addicted to them but i dont think i would be able to be addicted to them because they are gross tasting for me and it makes me uncomfortablly dizzy. jr77 i know exactly what you mean, unfortunately i am that same exact way with marijuana and when i dont get access i jus keep thinking about it, but i think my mind gets along wit it more psycologically because i know that it wont have the damaging effects that cigs do.
i guess the only answer is if your going to smoke cigs than do it the way i did it by quitting a week later, or dont start at all

Stick a quarter (or 20p if you are English) into a jar every time you feel like smoking. You will be amazed how quickly it builds up. If you do succumb and take a cigarette then stick $5 in there for each one you smoke. You cannot empty the jar until you go a whole month without a cigarette. Use anything else you have to use to beat the craving, it's tough but you can do it. I smoked 40 a day for about six years at my peak. I don't smoke any now, although I have an occasional cigar if I'm in the mood. This method can work for you. use the money in the jar to treat yourself to something you really want.
Good luck.

i quit by one day meditating on all the very NEgATIVE aspects of smoking for about an hour....
-think of all the nasty chemicals like embalming fluid and rat poison
-think of how your eyes, teeth, finigers WILL TURN YELLOW (its inevitable)
-think of how bad it stinks up your breath/hair/clothes/car/house
-think of how your lungs probably look right now (lung cancer)
-think of how you risk getting leukoplakia (mouth/gums cancer)
-think of your health/respiratory system/heart...theyre all affected
-think of how you still have MARY JANE and shes good enough for you
-if you smoke newports...think of how your gonna cough up blood (its inevitable)

you have to really want to quit and stick to that decision. it may help to avoid people you know who are heavy smokers so your not tempted. it really comes down to willpower, atleast thats what ive found in my fight against several addictions. just quit and replace it with somthing thats good for you and you will live a healthier and happier life.

Another big factor is how long you're been smoking and how much. If you've been smoking less than 3-5 years (a pack a day or more), then it might not be so hard. Past that it gets really damn tricky,

At first I was defensive when I read your post - but I kind of agree with your point..."Punk ass lame" is a little harsh but truthfully, maybe I AM a weak person because I can't quit cigs.........with all we know about how they kill you!:(

It sucks because I always said "I can quit" "Maybe I'll quit when I'm older".....but now that I've been smoking for about 15 years it's not so easy....

The key is want!!! people who try often really want to,these people usually succeed in the end...
go through the pain of "cold Turkey" it will reinforce your ability to quit... Do something constantly with your hands, lighting up is mostly a unconscious act,try to be more conscious of what you are doing... the urge for a cigg does not last to long, willpower yourself out of the moment, not forever!!!
good luck all...

you smoked for a week. some people have been smoking for 40 years. tobacco is highly addictive, along with all the other shit they got in there. its nuthing like weed so shut the fuck up. A realitive of mine died trying to quit cancer sticks, of cancer, so please just shut the fuck up. I smoked until the day he died, (around 5 months) and i stopped within a week. hardest week of my life. not a fucking state of mind.

I was thinking "yeah right" till I read what it was you were
quitting then I still thought "yeah right" LOL kidding.
I have tried to quit smoking a few times myself but nothing
has worked yet so, tell me if you find out what does work.
I would have to say the time I just quit cold turkey was the
one that lasted the longest with the patches I would just smoke
while wearing them LOL.
Maybe try smoking a nontabacco cigarette instead, they have
these herbal cigarettes where I live that contain no tobacco
or nicotine. I never tried them but maybe replacing one of
those instead of a cigarette every time you get the urge it
might help with the cravings.

I used to smoke cigarettes, but was never all that crazy about it. I'd still buy packs, and have about 4-5 a day, usually after I had blazed. There was a couple of things that made me completely quit. First, I realized that smoking cig's is a sign of weakness in one way or another. It shows bad decision making. It's not helping you at all. Basically, you are paying someone for bad health, the worst deal of all time. Second, FUCK THE TOBACCO COMPANIES, seriously, fuck them. And the thing that really made me quit those damn things was the video game Metal Gear Solid, which I was a huge fan of. The dude you play as starts with a pack of smokes, and if you smoke them and call your 'doctor' on the radio, she goes into how they are horrible for you. It really made me think, if a video game is telling me these things are horrible, I might as well just get the fucking point already.
The way I did it was I started running every day. After I was done running that first time, I realized how bad of shape my lungs were in, and was picturing what they probably looked like. After that, whenever I felt the urge for a smoke, I'd just think about how nasty those things really are, and what they actually do to you. Fucking society tricking me into thinking that I actually WANT one of them, like it's good for me somehow or something. "Docile consumer, go buy some bad health and be a good citizen, it's cool!"
And the idea that really gave me the willpower to quit - how totally fucking pissed I'd be if I got cancer and died because of them. I'd just think of how totally fucking let down I'd feel about myself if I went to the doctor and he told me I was gonna die soon because of cigarettes. The momentary lack of boredom and the urge to consume that a cigarette offers is not worth horrible health and death to me. The wierd thing is that I couldn't see them for what they really were when I first started smoking, it took awhile for me to figure out what was really going on.

Oh, and toothpicks were what I replaced with smokes. Just having something in my mouth was a learned behaviour I picked up, and toothpicks worked just peachy for me. And I could always carry a bunch of them in my pocket.
Good luck!

i just don't understand how you are gonna let a cigarette affect you, it's so tiny, and you are bigger, honestly, you can give it up, it's just that you need to break the connection of cigarettes and feeling good. Just think about how this little thing with no brain that drains ur cash is smarter than you, you gotta be smarter than the cig man,
smarter than the cig
right after that, spark a bowl of blueberry

Okay we just learned about cigs and stuff in my college health class. And here is an interesting thought...
People who use telephonic counseling are 50% more likely to quit than going at it alone.
Best of all it's free. I can't remember if it's 1-800-ucanquit but something like that I'm sure you can find the number online. Around here there's tv commercials on for it all the time.
They'll also give you coupons for discounts that work for nicotine patches and gum. Nicotine patches and gum increase your chances of quitting by 25%.
So good luck...
I've tried quitting a lot and never have been able to....
Damn ciggarettes...
