I've lived in Massachusetts, North Carolina, Florida, Illinois, and California, plus a year or so in Shanghai China. Everyplace has it's good points and bad points and I can honestly say I've enjoyed living in each place. But ask me which is best and I have to say California, no contest.

California's got tons to do, awesome weather and great scenery. Within 20min to 5 hour drive of my house I can be at the beach, the redwood forest, high in the mountains, or hanging out in the desert depending on which direction I go. I can spend all day mountain biking, go home, shower and then head into the city for the night. There's no need to choose between living in the country or in the city because they are right next to each other here. Not to mention the fact that we've got some of the best weed in the country combined with some of the most lenient weed laws around.

Impossible to call anything the "best" state.. the state you grow up in usually holds nostalgic value so its no wonder why most people refer to their own states as the best state. So to me, new york is the best state, I have no desire to go any further than the new york city/ new jersey area.

And we can snowboard for 2/3 of a year then have a beautiful summer where the sun doesnt go down and its a steady 80 degrees. Lots of mountains and rivers. What state is best for what? Best for low cost of living, which affects every aspect of your life? Probably one of the Midwest states. Best for the weather? Probably California, as long as you don't mind the occasional earthquake, rolling blackout, massive fire or the feds crawling around like ants. What's best for taxes and debt relief? Probably Texas. What's best for skiing? Probably Colorado. What's best if you're a writer? Probably New York.

Every state is probably best at *something*, if not several somethings. You just have to figure out what your priorities are. I like low cost of living, personally. My household brings in a tad under $100k/year. In California that'd be...okay, not bad. Middle class. Not much of it would be disposable income there, but we'd do okay. But where I live, that's really quite GOOD. In fact, that's not far from being half the price of a house in this area, whereas comparable houses in California cost half a million on up. The ideal situation would be to live in the Midwest and reap the rewards of the low cost of living, but telecommute and work for a California-based or New York-based company and make THEIR wages...but spend it where you live, where everything is much cheaper.

ANd why?
I vote tennessee because its a sophisticated rebel state with alot of rebel pride yet were so ninja about it outsiders would never know unless youve lived here awile/know people.
plus cannabis is the biggest industry here for agriculture wise.
lmao
how about you?
i know were gonna get a shit load of NJ's

The KKK was started there, so I don't know how ninja you guys really are at hiding your "rebel" pride. and i actually double check this but i am pretty sure the biggest industry in tennesse is lumber.

DC?! Why the hell would ANYONE want to live in DC? A bunch of crackheads and cameras on every street corner, not to mention the stupid politicians.

As a Baltimoron, I NEVER understood why tourists wanted to go to DC. Maybe to get that cheesy political "inspiration" feeling. They DO have good museums, though.

Baltimoron?? lol

I know I am double posting here, but if you really are interested: the latest state I live in Mexi-Cali: is quite different than the rest of the union. There are so many motherfucking foreigners here. I have never felt too much like a minority - although potheads are kind of like a minority group - except when the cops come and get you - then you are ON YOUR FUCKIN own.
But yea, everything is really segregated: mexicans have their own neighborheads and stores, whites have their own, asians have theirs and blacks have theirs. This is so fucked up. THINK ALABAMA circa 1960. Its really racist, plus there are so many fags. Really all I have left are the hippies and potheads and they are so fuckin lazy, they don't work coz they are stoned all the time. The hardest thing we have to do here in Mexi-Cali is make a trip to the pot dispensary for our medicine. WHAT A WONDERFUL LIFE!
