Democrats are calling for an investigation into his actions/rumors of republican coverup...I say BS, how many Gay Politicians are in the Democratic party, and knowing how most gays act, they probably have flirted with other underage males. Just a Headhunt by democrats in an election year...and it wasnt ABC that broke the story, Democrats leaked the letters to ABC. So they were keeping it under wraps until we got close to elections.

Who cares that the guy is gay? The fact that the guy seemd to be trying to get into the pants of underage boys is the problem. And I love how you point the finger at the Dems. Like it was their fault, LOL. It's ok for some old pervert to try to seduce some young boy over the internet, just don't try to expose his secret, that would be wrong. Give me a break.

Let he who is without sin cast the first stone.

There's sick fuckers on both sides of the line. That's why you have to be active and investigate before you vote. If you don't, you have no right to bitch about anything.

Honestly both sides have a lot of bad people on them, why is it that people only focus on the bad, we elected these people at the end of the day its our fault. You can't ask for perfection, I just wish people who we interested in politics had a little more optimism for the future. We have the number one economy in the world, a great standard of living and realitively little crime, yes we have many social problems, but bitching and whining about corrupt politians isn't doing anything. I mean look at history and past rulers, Mussolini, Stalin, Hitler.... Bush is a fucking saint compared to these guys. I think it has a lot more to do with the general corruption of society than polititians. Like the guy above said let he who is without sin cast the first stone. Change your own life and help others do the same before you ridicule members of political parties and use them as scapegoats for your own corruptness

Krogith! finally a post of your I can understand and you actually have valid points in. I think your right about China passing us as #1, but keep in mind they do have 4+ times the people we do at over 1 billion. Also most the post about America are regarding where or not that country agrees with us and our president Bush and his horrible foreign policy. We all know Bush is a wash and most of our own country would vote that they dont agree with our foreign policy right now. Im honestly surprised Bush has not been assassinated yet with all the people he has angered.

I'm glad Foley resigned, he should be prosecuted, the Democrats are now saying they want Speaker Hasterett to resign too.

That is just one more example of the Double Standard Democrats believe in one set of rules for everyone, except them.

Studds (D) Ma. was banging a page got caught was "censured" flipped Congress the rat, ran and got reelected. no one was telling Speaker (D) Tip O'Neill to resign.

Frank (D) MA had his "sex thing" he was "reprimanded" by Congress, was reelected, no one was calling for Speaker (D) Gepthart to step down.

I'm a Democrat who's not pushing for anyone to step down other than Foley himself. It's too early to be pushing for anythng. Or laying blame on one party or another for anything.

The problem here is pedophilia, pure and simple. It's a problem that crosses all party lines and all socio-economic ones as well. That's what we all ought to be united in objecting to: any crime that was perpetrated or boundaries that were crossed inappropriately. Anything else is just a smokescreen.

I don't care IF ABC was in cahootz with the Democrats on the breaking of this story, either way: best political-media blitz EVER. Even if the Republicans pulled this I'd feel the same way.

I honestly don't care how long ago the media knew about this, it doesn't change the fact at hand; Foley did what he did, and people demand to know how many Republican Officials knew as well.

If the only damage-control the Republicans can come up with is why don't people treat them like Democrats, you're in bad shape fellas.

House Republicans And Religious Leaders Fire Back at Congressional Pages

Published: October 4, 2006

According to house speaker Dennis Hastert, Congressional Pages were warned, "Never give e-mail addresses to members of congress." Continued Hastert, "The majority of House Pages prefer to ignore these warnings."

Although the majority of Congressional Pages abide by the "strict" rules governing their behavior, some continue to act "like Deer caught in the headlights" when confronted with seductive advances from members of congress.

Said Christian fundamentalist, Pat Robertson, "This lurid and irresponsible behavior from the Congressional Pages goes against every biblical teaching."

Despite the certainty of Congressional Page wrongdoing, house Republicans, along with the Bush administration, are said to be meeting with Vatican officials to learn more about dealing with complex accusations of pedophilia, especially when a significant number of House Pages come to Washington from obvious hedonistic family structures.

OK, so where are the indignant replies to this dastardly news? Let's get the ball rolling, boys and girls (oops, sorry!).

. That's what we all ought to be united in objecting to: any crime that was perpetrated or boundaries that were crossed inappropriately.

I agree

Anything else is just a smokescreen.

On that we disagree, Studds & Frank did not "do the right thing" and resign and were "accepted", by the democrats and the media.

Foley resigned as soon as it became public because he knew the Republicans and the media wouldn't (and rightfully so) give him a pass.

I'm not defending Foley, again I think he should be prosecuted, but there is a political double standard in this country. Republicans are held to a higher standard, it's not fair but it's good for the country and good for the party.

If Bill Clinton had been a "pro-life Republican" Al Gore would have been President before the 2000 election.

Here's my thinking on those other cases, Ozarks. Yep, Barney Franks and Bill Clinton did indeed get in trouble. In their particular cases, minors weren't involved, however, and that's a key distinction, although it's one that doesn't make their own offenses any less lurid or despicable. Gerry Studds' case in 1983 did indeed involve a 17-year-old page, and he was censured, too. But in both the Studds and Franks cases, I don't think anyone ever made a case that speakers O'Neill or Gephardt had prior knowledge of the inappropriate activities that had happened, as is being alleged now in the Foley-Hastert situation. I think that's perhaps why the reaction is different.

Obviously, this is very politically charged situation at a politically charged time. But I personally think lots more facts need to come out and that anyone who's screaming for Hastert to step down at this early point needs to shut up and wait for the full chronology to be revealed. Even then, I can completely understand why Hastert and others would have resonably believed no congressman would be so stupid, especially not one like Mark Foley who was so involved in legislation protecting children.

I will concede that there's some double-standard working here even so. And in some ways, I feel like that standard has been partially set up by right-wing conservatives in addition to the over-zealous, finger-pointing Democrats of the last two days. In the last six years, the conservatives have invested a lot of emotional equity in positioning themselves as the morally superior, family values, flag-waving, freedom-fighting, America-loving, favored-by-God, Christian party. Some of that holier-than-thou positioning is now blowing up in their faces. In just the time since the Clinton and Franks scandals, we've all moved into a very different moral-political atmosphere. At least in two of those past cases, we Democrats who were familiar with the backstories of Barney Frank and Bill Clinton had our eyes open to the risky possibility of "sin" and debaucherie. We knew those men too well not to know that was a risk.

Birdgirl has hit the nail on the head. The dems are eating this up and can we really blame them for gloating? Clinton gets blown by an intern..well..he's one of those liberal Democrats so it should be expected. The Repubicans, however, have set themsleves up high on the pedestal of morality and good family values. Bottom line is that the higher up you are(in this case on the decency scale) the louder the noise when you fall. Not that I'm defending Clinton's, or anyone's, innapropriate and/or criminal behavior.

To point fingers at the Dems in this case, calling it a "witch hunt" is ridiculous. That's just the Rep's trying to take the spotlight off of themselves. Whether or not it was a witch hunt isn't relevant. What Foley did was wrong, it was criminal, and he should be punished. If some weird old man in your neighborhood was trying to lure teenage boys to his house over the internet you would demend he be caught and sent to jail. Just because someone is a congressman it doesn't give them the right to act that way and it doesn't matter if they are a Republican or a Democrat. If Hastert had knowledge of Foley's behavior he should also be held accountable as should anyone else who tried to cover up the situation. If he didn't have knowledge of the situation than let him be. Simple.
